By the way, the chap who is working on the program is asking for more info from Carrara users, but I don't really understand ... any one like to answer him?

@AllCarraraUsers : I realize that you are many users of Carrara to be interested in VWD. Personally, I do not know Carrara. In my mind, the development was done in Poser and the animations could be exported in various formats, with eventually the generation of a script to integrate the animation in different 3d programs. The problem of integration in Carrara seems without any problem using the Dyn2Morphs script which seems to work fine. This is a topic that had already been addressed, there is some time. What scares me in this method is the size of the PZ2 file that will be generated. This format is particularly wordy and the size of .DYN files for some animations already make tens of megabytes.
As I said at the time, the ideal would be to find the ability to import an animation as a cache file. I think Carrara has a plugin which imports cache files. It is possible to generate dynamic animations in Carrara and these animations are not always played in real time. To play these animations at real speed without computation, the program has to store the movement of vertices in a file. If one of you can give me the format of these files, I could generate a file compatible with Carrara for the VWD animations.
Tell me what you think about that.
(Late) thanks Headwax, for the suggestion.
I made a start at last but am in a great rush right now. I'll post also at DAZ.

Hi everyone,
Today VirtualWorldDynamics posted this in the stickied Poser discussion:
@Carrara users : In seeking generation methods for .MDD files, I have found a free script in Python that converts a .PC2 file towards a .MDD file. I think this script will be very helpful to export animations towards CARRARA.
Clearly he is putting serious effort into helping us!
Personally I know nothing about the use of an .MDD file. I've heard that this type of file is used to send simulations from Marvellous Designer to Carrara. But I don't know where the figure's animation fits in. Neither do I know what a .PC2 file is!
Since I first heard of VWD's work I assumed that the figure's animation and the cloth simulation would all be done in Poser then somehow brought into Carrara. Does anyone know whether the script above would result in a Poser scene being opened in Carrara?
As it stands now, the program gets launched from Poser, does its calculations and then the full version (as opposed to the trial) will send the results back to Poser. I wonder what the possibilities would be of the same process happening all from Carrara. At this stage I wouldn't want to make a request for that to VWD because I think his hands are full enough!
I see a discussion here also (on this forum) on the use of the DynToMorphs script. I wonder how the results will compare to the script VWD is looking at?
PS I'm not really sure if I'm asking sensible questions - I guess I'm concerned that VWD is working to provide something and I'm hoping that we will know what to do with it! Then again, the knowledge of others here and in other forums never ceases to amaze!
Thanks for the heads up Grimhilda!
Ah I know nothing about any of the forms. I know Fenric made a plugin http://www.daz3d.com/mdd-file-format-for-carrara when a few of us were jumping on the Messiah bandwagon, but I have never had any use for it . yet. !
looking forward to seeing what the future brings.
I use a lot the MDD plugin with Marvellous Designer, it's a very nice way to make the bridge between two softwares.
The process is:
Make your animation in Carrara (nude character only) starting in T pose.
Export it as Lightwave MDD (Fenric's plugin)
-Now, you have an .obj (character) and a .mdd (Motion).
-Import the obj as avatar in MDD
-Import the mdd as animation
-Build your clothe(s), drape it on your character (avatar), make your simulation and record it.
-In Carrara, import the mdd file created in MD, you have now the clothe exactly draped and animated on your character (except at the first frame, but you can delete the keyframe).
Nota: the mdd file don't take in account the textures, he don't create a .mtl file.
Hope this help.
Thanks for the replies and thanks Dudu for the step-by-step description of the Marvellous Designer workflow.
Just thinking out loud ... the possible workflow for using VWD's script might be:
1 Clothe and animate a figure in Poser
2 Run VWD's cloth simulation for this animated figure
3 VWD can output the results in .PC2 format and a script can turn this into .MDD format
4 With Fenric's plugin installed into Carrara, the .MDD file can be brought into Carrara. The .MDD file will only be the animated cloth, I think. It's unlikely to be the figure also?
Poser can output animated figures as object sequences, I think. There is, I believe, a Carrara plugin available for importing object sequences.
Maybe the animated figure alone in the scene could be saved as a Poser scene. Such a scene could be opened in Carrara then the .MDD import could take place perhaps.
All of the foregoing begins from a Poser scene. I don't know how it could start from a Carrara project. Isuppose Poser's ability to output .BVH files might be brought into play.
Having trouble running the VWDbuttons.py script which I have tried in a couple of install locations - currently in the Poser runtime Poser install located on C/ program filesX86.
Tried an install to C:/VWD location as well but when I run the "VWbuttons.py" I get a pop up lasting about 1/2 seconds before it closes - too fast to actually see what it is.
I have python 26 and 27 installed in C/
The VWDClothAndHair.exe file runs ok.
Any suggestions please.
Hi Grimhilda!
As I explained it in the thread of Steve K, in Poser you make the simulation of clothing and you apply the “Dyn2Morph" script to it.
Then, you record your scene (.pz3) which you can import directly in Carrara, thus you have the character with his animated clothing.
What is interesting, and I discover it with 0oseven's the post, it is that one could export the hair simulation because Dyn2Morph doesn't do it.
Do you have some results Mike ?
Hi 0oseven,
I just followed the instructions in the manual to get the buttons script working:
You need to have the Python Script window open in Poser.
On a PC press the top button while holding the ALT key. In my case the button label changes from 'Wardrobe Wizard' to '...'
Press this button which now has the three dots and navigate to the buttons script. Click 'Open' and the script will now run from that top button.
After using the VWD program, the button reverts to what it was before (Wardrobe Wizard).
Hi DUDU.car
Yes, I remember it was you who explained before how to use the DynToMorphs script and I was very pleased to learn of it. It works very well for the clothing but I found that slight changes to the figure's proportions were lost in Carrara. This is most probably because I used the Poser Roxie figure.
But VWD, in his thread, was looking for another solution to making this work for Carrara users because he considers that .pz3 files can become too big.

Thank you for the tips - I am not familiar with poser despite owning it for several years and having Poser 10 !! So it took me a while to find out how to open the python menu [ right click on scene ] Now it's a matter of reading the remaining 40 odd pages of the clothes sim manual. Hope to have a video to post soon - and a Carrara version of VWD. Thanks again for your reply.

well could be,
just in case you didn't see this , it was posted over at Daz forums but mods removed it because of a commercial link.?

have a read. If all goes well it possible wont matter if Daz makes a working Carrara 'cloth' sim
