 Hi all

i know this has been covered before, but I cannot find it.

I need some help. I have the mesh grid/pattern showing in the finished render.

as you can guess I don't want this.

its a prop and other props in the set are OK

as always any help would be welcome and thanks ahead of time

Try turning off smoothing of the object in question.

WARK!

You can set the display properties for each item, check that you have it set for the scene property.

Turn off smoothing or

Raise shadow min bias to .500 or above for RT shadows or

apply an additional level of subdivision or

Use depth mapped shadows.

It's polygonal self shadowing brought about by reyes aspect of Firefly, PITA. Turn off RT shadows and do an area render of a spot that is heavy with artifacts... you'll see that they're no longer there.

Edit_ sometimes turning off smoothing doesn't work as well as expected.

Another interesting observation regarding, Scaling of effected object has impact on the presence of said artifacts. If you scale the object to 1000 the artifacts aren't as strong. This wreaks havok with bump and displacement strength settings however.

Yet another observation, heavily sculpted (ala Zbrush, Mudbox, etc.) objects seem particularly prone to these artifacts, not sure why but it seems that organic form meshes with many non planar polys are particularly troublesome.

 thanks for all the help.

I swapped the gradient bump out and that fixed it

Gradient bump? Did you have a normal map in there? Was the material a Poser 4/5 mat? Curious. Anyway, glad you figured it out.
