There are a few individuals already running Win10 and are not experiencing any major problems with PP2014.

I imagine there must be testers and others out there running beta versions.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

It was an open beta program, Pappy;  anyone who wanted to could run the beta Win10, on as many machines as you wanted - the more different machines, the better..  MicroSoft wanted to gather compatibility info on as many different system configurations as they could get.  If you see the black & white Windows icon in your notification tray (bottom right of your monitor, I've boxed it in green here), that indicates that someone has beta tested a machine matching your hardware configuration and it has been found to be compatible.

file_bd4c9ab730f5513206b999ec0d90d1fb.pn     I don't know of any problems with Poser Pro 2014 and Win10 per se;  the only problems I've heard of were due to lack of drivers for some particular piece of hardware (maybe a USB3 host PCIe card for older machines, for example), but these drivers have been getting coded and released prodigiously.

I've been wondering the exact same thing.  I bought a refurbished computer with massive amounts (for me) of RAM and a 1Tb HD, but it's got Windows 7 Business on it, while my main machine is an eMachine with 2Gb of RAM and Windows 7 Home.  I've been trying to get everything moved to the refurb but I keep getting "you can't do that because it's different versions" song and dance.  If we are all going to Windows 10, what difference does it make?

seachnasaigh ( ) posted Fri, 24 July 2015 at 11:57 AM

Cedarwolf, is it the publishers of the various programs which are telling you "You can't do that..."?  I'm wondering if they are saying that you must get a commercial grade license (because they see Win7 business).  I've not even seen that version;  I've seen Win7 Enterprise.

WONDERFUL!  Something I can mostly understand.

The "you can't do that" crowd are the IT and computer repair shops in my area.  It's got me wondering if they just want to sell another Windows 7 license before they go toes up.  Are you given a choice of which flavor to install on 10?  After reading through your data, I don't see that I need 10 Pro.  If I could select, one would think that I could have the 10 Home on both and be done with it so I can move the HD and RAM.  Of course, as I understand it, it can't be that easy...it'll need to go to the shop for BIOS adjustment, but again, I fear it's just the shop keepers trying to get a few extra dollars out of the deal.

My thanks for this information, and any suggestions you may have.

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 24 July 2015 at 2:51 PM

I understand that the Win10 version you get matches the OS version already installed on your system, no more, no less. Also, in another post, it was pointed out that once you upgrade, the previous OS key is locked; you will not be able to use that old OS Disk on another computer.  For what it is, the upgrade is free for a limited time only.

file_698d51a19d8a121ce581499d7b701668.PN     The main difference is that with Win10, even the home version can utilize a lot of RAM in 64bit.

Of course, ad-aware so going to want to shed the worst possible light on it to get more business. Does anyone know what they're talking about and is it a big concern? Is this something that's gonna be difficult to opt out of?

I never heard about that email scam and even if you had the password to my wireless you would not have a matching mac address, so you would not get in. It is not set up to use shared keys.

There is an option to share network information (Wifi Sense), but hype has blown it into a conspiracy theory in the making.

AmbientShade Fortune favors the bold. most time I just get what ever OS it is at the time of the new PC build.

n don't care if a new one hits the stores ,so I've missed some.

so I've ran 95,98,XP,Vista,8.

but if there netting me 10 for free ,ah ,why not.

worst that could happen is we crash n burn.

I build my PC's I don't buy them factory built. Haven't in almost 8 years since the last pre-built rig I had burned up (literally). That's when I lost XP and had to buy win7. This is my 3rd build now. I need to snag a copy of win7 pro while its still available so I can take advantage of the extra ram.

I don't like the security issues of win10. Or the automatic updates without the option to turn it off. I definitely don't like the idea of it automatically taking my FB and skype contacts. That's none of MS's business.

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 25 July 2015 at 5:47 AM

I have the icon on my desktop, but it says it won't be available until after July 29th. I wonder, does it just download and give me the option to install it later? Or do I have to install when the download completes?

I also wonder if I even want it. Like Shane, I stayed on XP until 7 came out. Vista was a cat's bottom compared to XP, and from what I understand, 7 was Vista with all the bugs fixed. So maybe I will wait until 11 or whatever they are going to call the next version after 10, and it will be 10 with the bugs fixed. I have never liked 8. I couldn't get past the damn initial screen. I am not a social network guy beyond this forum, so...

If you reserved a copy of Win 10 and aren't sure right now, you can cancel the reservation.  I don't know if it automatically updates your OS.  I've never allowed Windows to auto update.  My understanding is the free upgrade will be available for the first year.  I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 25 July 2015 at 6:04 PM

I just read about the NVidia problems with the auto update. I cancelled my reservation until it's been out long enough to fix things that crash computers. I think I will go on Amazon and get myself a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate while I still can get it. My new laptop will probably have 8 on it, and I don't like it.

Just a polite heads-up about Windows 10:
Don't do it.

Can't be bothered to check this, but I hear that if you accept the free upgrade (which they're trying desperately to get everyone to use for obvious reasons), they will disable the key you already own for Windows 7 or whatever.  This means that you won't be able to go back to Windows 7 even if you have the key, because they won't activate it.  There is a reason Windows 10 is free, so I'd read the TOS for Windows 10 very carefully if I were you (then you'll find out why they're doing it).

This will be my only post in this thread, it's just a friendly heads-up that you can either take notice of or not (won't effect me either way).

There's a write up on Gizmodo about Windows 10. Kind of a day to day use. On some systems the update is painless. I'd still wait 2 to 3 months due to bugs. Release date is tomorrow.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

I have updated from Win 8.1 (which I already didn't like and had some issues with) to Windows 10, and have had a lot of problems.  Poser now takes > 5 mins to start, and operations that took a few minutes in Poser under Win 8.1 now take minutes in Win 10.  Looking at Task Manager and Runtime Broker is part of the problem - but I've disabled absolutely every Metro feature on the system and it won't go away (it uses up to 34% of my CPU power).  So all in all, very disappointed.

Hi there

Personally I'm on W7 Ultimate and really I wouldn't update/upgrade to W10 if you don't it as most of apps and programs are still supported on W7/W8.1 and going to uncharted territory not sure if I would go again, tried W8 and reverted to W7 within day,I would wait until they sort those issues and ability to turn off updates this is important for me as I don't want again reinstalling the drivers as Windows always find earliest drivers and not last,Cortana marketing targeted ads and privacy settings are important for me

Due this I'm still on W7 and will be unless I couldn't find drivers or apps will no longer works with W7,I don't update my PC at all(last update caused only me only headache) and I don't use any kind of AV,with AV I've got more viruses like without the AV,only thing which keeping my PC safe is few scripts for Chrome

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

I have windows 10 installed on my laptop (Toshiba Qosmio x770 - 2.4 gHz 2nd gen core i7 mobile, 8 gb of ram) as a testbed prior to upgrading my main PC.

There have been no performance changes between win 8.1 & 10, still opens quick, renders quite fast. Sorry to hear face_off is having issues, but no noticing any myself.

I do run with user account control at never notify settings, however, as I am a desktop engineer by trade & like having as much control as possible.

Hope you fix your win 10 issues.

Sorry, I have had problems in the past with Windows updates and there is no way I am upgrading from Windows 7 while updates are enforced.  I am not a Microsoft hater but neither do I love/trust them enough to allow them enforce updates on my system that I have no control over.

Windows 10 beta tester running on fractal define 3 with Asus X99 workstation 32 Gb ram. Poser pro 2014 with no problem since midlle builds.

Update (if you do it properly ) is faultless - if you have any worries use windows backup and restore. in the Released version of windows 10 there is a facility to roll back windows 10 to 7 but nuking the drive and then doing a restore from a system image will do the trick.  make sure you have an emergency disk.

Poser is roughly the same rendering speed with firefly Runtimes and poser is slightly faster ( roughly the same as windows 8.1)

Windows 10 does need tuning to get rid of all the privacy tabs and stuff - there are good tuning guides on the web for this. you can fiddle with the update settings in Win 10 pro  to give you some control.Ive found it pretty stable and a worthwhile upgrade.
