Way too much invested and accumulated content to change.

Daz Studio 4 rocks in certain ways... but still... the genesis 1/2/3 people load in with all 100,000 morphs active so you truly do need a 16gig+ RAM system or you're wasting your time unless you only do portraits of single characters.

But to be brutally honest.. the Genesis 2 and 3 people blow V4 away in the reality arena. But if you're not a reality freak...Gen 4 people are the boss

Are you kidding me? Five years into this Poser hobby and I just got V4/A4/S4. I am so far behind the power curve that it hit me square in the backside as it was coming around and lapping me.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

Well that is a very difficult statement to prove or disprove.  Yes there is more support for Genesis appearing every day and that will clearly continue.  On the other hand there are new products for V4 being launched everyday and I suspect that will continue for a while yet.  With the number of people on a very tight budget there are bound to be some users that would love to use Genesis but cannot afford buy enough Genesis stuff to meet their needs.  That is not a fault of Genesis just the reality of the situation for any new figure.

Many users using V4 and the less supported figures do not buy many products but make their own and the majority of users of 3D art software do not frequent the forums.

Clearly as Genesis gains ground support for V4 and other figures will decrease.  Any additional figures will further fragment the market so I really can't see everyone moving to a single figure.  V4 came the closet but those days are long gone.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I'm with Rokket.  I'm still using Aiko 3!!  Poser 11 is out soon.  I can't wait to see how they will compete.  Do I like Genesis 2?  Yes I do.  IN POSER!!!

bevans84 ( ) posted Fri, 07 August 2015 at 9:05 AM

Just go to DeviantArt and type V4, V5, V6, and V7 into search. Of course, V4 does have quite an advantage in number of years.
Then, for grins, you can type in MMD (Miku Miku Dance) :)

The preloaded morphs don't use resources unless you dial them in.

I am vested in V4, V3 and their orbiting characters. I haven't made the Genesis transition because I've stayed with Poser during the software split.

From what I have seen, Smith Micro may be shooting themselves in the foot, however, since they've instituted a 'phone home' strategy for their software (initially without telling people), killing it on your computer if it doesn't get a positive  response in a timely manner (Specifically Game Developer, not, as far as I know PPro2014). This is apparently a step in positioning their product as a subscription service, the way Adobe and Corel have done (I understand Corel is optional; you can buy OR subscribe;  I think Adobe is not). I guess it will be up to the Poser community, whether they choose to accept this in the long run.

Partly as a result some people, I hear, are responding by actually pulling their poser machines and making them stand alone, so they only have to deal with Smith Micro and getting a code maybe once a year (of course, there is also a feeling that a high horsepower 3D Graphics machine runs faster and leaner if you don't have to load it up with anti-virus protection). Cheaper Tablets can now access the web and the data can be screened and ported to a secure stand alone graphics machine.

What this means is that while I believe very much in Poser software, Smith Micro is almost actively driving me to adopt the DAZ product, which is still Free, and gratefully so.

But I really don't see improvement beyond V4 worth the cost - for what I play with - in going to any of the Genesis characters and their accessories. In my opinion, there is still not enough variation in the characters. The detail has gone up, but I liken it more to all the improvements that they made in 78 RPM records, fussing with variations in speed (some are 80 RPM) and needle widths before 33RPM Long play came out.

The short is the next character I plan to invest in as heavily as I did with the V3-V4 Series will probably be one that doesn't exist yet. The 33RPM Long Play of Characters (3D is still in its infancy).  "My" character will be one that can take a full detailed body scan from a system such as an Artec (Luxemborg/Russia)see below,  Reference Bloomberg:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-09-29/first-selfies-now-shapies-scanning-booths-capture-the-moment-in-3-d

...and map it to a rigged 3D universal mesh. From there clothing and Jewelry designs are more likely to be made for real people and then to be actually manufactured to fit.

Here's a low-cost approach to scanning via Kinect:

https://www.shapify.me/scan-at-home

I think this is what is coming.

Define Gone.

I am using them (along with every other character I have ever purchased).  I am even doing a set of tutorials on how to get your DS content out of DS and into Poser without the need of using that PoS DSON over in the DAZ Poser forum (at least until the mods delete it.)

Clothing - not so much - it is so easy to use the fitting room on the genesis figures that there isn't a need to buy figure specific clothing anymore.

But, for my art, my go to is the SM G2 figures - Sydney, Jessi, Miki, Simon, Kelvin & Koji are my go-to figures.

The Daz figures are my "red-shirts", for the most part.

kljpmsd ( ) posted Fri, 07 August 2015 at 7:37 PM

I've used both Poser and Daz3D for many years but have been spending much more time with Daz3D lately after learning how easy it is to make clothing for the later Genesis lines.  I discovered that it's possible (in Daz3D) to convert Vicky Four's many characters to Genesis 2 and bring along her massive wardrobe.  The results are excellent.  I'd rather cheat on my real world wife (of three decades) than Vicky Four and wouldn't have dreamed of leaving her.  Now I don't have to.

No requiem for Vicky Four....rather a reprise!

Yep. V4 lives on through Genesis tech. Basically most of us in DS still use a lot of V4's content, just on a newer figure platform. My actual V4 can't touch my G2F version of her because she has the advantage of using new content as well. Altogether, that is a crap load of content. I give the new generation shapes V4's content, and I give V4 the new generations content. It's a Win Win in my book:) However her ride might end with G3, unless we create some more content converters.

"As we are receiving several complaints about this thread being in the Poser forum, I'm moving it to the D|S forum."

Why Genesis can be used in Poser? I am going to be complaining about this being in the DAZ Forum as it consistently mentions Poser throughout....

You shouldn't be using the DS forum as a dumping ground for contentious threads, just because of the anti genesis trolls that are ruining the Poser forums ...

What a joke, I thought things were going to be improved in that forum instead you're spilling the crap from it into this one....

THIS is not a thread about Daz Studio, it is about GENESIS.

Male_M3dia ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2015 at 1:47 AM · edited Sun, 09 August 2015 at 1:51 AM

I think this follows the basic formula:

  • Poser user creates threads to flamebait a fight about genesis.

  • If bashing works, thread stays in Poser forum and poser forumites have a field day, then other people come in and fighting starts. Thread ulitimately gets locked after the fighting rages for a few days.

  • If bashing doesn't work and thread is civil, poser forumites complain and thread gets moved to DAZ forum.

I think that sounds right. I have a better suggestion. Instead of moving it, how about taking care of the actual problem and lock the thread since it was flamebaiting as stated in your new TOS in the first place? Sounds like a more reasonable solution and would actually cut down on the fight and flaming, if you're actually serious about it. But as they say, actions speak louder than words.

And to answer the OP... yep everyone is moving to genesis because that's what the paying customer want and vendors need to pay their expenses. V4 is pretty much winding down as evidenced in the amount of Genesis products popping up in all the storefronts.

Razor42 ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2015 at 2:03 AM

This is just sloppy moderation, this is clearly a thread about using Genesis in Poser. And imo dumping it here is not a solution to solving the Poser forums issues. Spreading a stain out isn't removing it. The moderators need to deal with the troublemakers directly in that forum whether they are DS or Poser users or both or Blender or whatever.... Preaching positivity is a waste of time with some of the bad seeds that have taken root in there. This seems more to be pandering to them rather than reforming the attitude there.

And sadly MM3 your explanation is quite plausible, as anything else doesn't really make a great deal of sense.

Judging from this there must be a misconception that Genesis is for DS only. I will be putting together a resource list for Genesis in Poser for the good people of the Poser forum. Just so they are not labouring under a falsity that Genesis cannot be used in Poser.

Male_M3dia ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2015 at 2:18 AM · edited Sun, 09 August 2015 at 2:24 AM

I agree about the lack of moderation. It's not like they don't see the results of these threads coming as soon as they are created. If they are serious, then this thread should have been nipped in the bud as soon as it was created, not a day later after the thread was civil.  However, looking at their forum with threads about Jessie, Alyson and Apollo, perhaps they're allowing the bashing threads so those people can feel better about their current figure choices... these past few years probably haven't been easy for them... though I'm not sure how the forums can be a thriving, productive environment that encourages an atmosphere of community from when mods continue allow threads like this to be created then dumped off in a different forum when those users feel the conversation isn't going their way.

Also Razor, as far as your guide, you probably shouldn't bother. I doubt the DSON importer is going to get much use or updates now that Genesis 3 is out, so they're probably right about genesis being DS only from this point on.

I use V-2  to  G3 and all their little spin offs in between. I must admit my V4/V4.2 content library probably is the largest collection and I am still building it up. In that period the content developers went to town with a great range of products too useful to ignore. My favorite character is little Aiko 3 I doubt anyone can deny she is as cute as it gets.

They all have a time and place to be useful

With me I am real adventurous

Daz characters in Daz.

Poser characters in Poser.

I did export a Daz to Poser once and it went well but I did ask myself why

95% of the time Daz to export for animation. Unfortunately anything below the Genesis has issues due to the bone structure. upon walking they become somewhat a hunchback. I am working on a cure since a V4 with her breasts following 1 ft behind her while walking is not a very good look at all

@Razor42 @Male_M3dia Your concerns and points of view are justified however I seriously doubt the Daz forum will be used as a dumping ground for the Poser Mods and Cords....... at least not on your watch :-) They have a better work ethic than that.

Thanks Johnny,

While I would like to agree with you on this, this isn't the first thread that has been dropped to the Daz Forums and then left to it's own grisly demise by the moderator that moved it here. I do understand a post in the Poser forum saying "How do I get X working in Daz Studio" being moved to the Daz Forums. Though this his thread is not a case of that. It was moved for one reason it's content is contentious and rather than deal with issues directly, it's easier to sweep it under the carpet - i.e the Renderosity Daz Forums. Or can you see some reason content wise why this thread should be moved to the Daz Forum?

LPR001 ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2015 at 2:35 AM

@Razor42 Well this must have been before my time and we can only look forward. The Daz forum will not be used as a dumping ground I don't believe it is part of any reforms going on or any hidden agenda. The aim is to build up this forum and keep it a friendly atmosphere to be enjoyed by all. Once a thread has been moved here it will be monitored by the Daz Mods and Cords so it will not be left to get out of control.

It would not be appropriate for me to personally answer that very last question. If the thread being here is of major concern to you and you wish to take it further then if you have not done so already click on one of the names up the top of the page and let that thought be known. Speaking of sweeping under carpets.... Somehow simple questions never have a simple answer around here.

Shouldn't it be obvious to anyone why the thread was picked up from the Poser Forum and deliberately moved to the Daz Forum?

I know private message a mod right? where the concern can be ignored in private...

And while we are at it maybe you can explain why my private messages to the Daz Forum Mods have been ignored regarding the quite bizarrely updated a couple of weeks ago but still very out of date - DAZ FAQ at the top of this forum? In 2013 I emailed a mod re the issue over 2 years ago.

This was the thread response- http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2875453#msg4120828

• I contacted the mod as advised, wrote a new draft for the FAQ and what do you think happened? So please...

I am only a go between if you have an issue you send me a PM I guarantee it will be followed up immediately on your behalf and you will also get a response nothing ignored and nothing will be swept away. To be honest I am pro Daz Gallery and Forum and it's members. As long as they are doing the right thing I will back them to the hilt. That is my only duty Daz! and I  am very happy about that. This means legitimate concerns from members will be addressed and a resolution sought in a speedy manner. But I also have to follow procedure and voicing my personal opinion on a thread would not be one of them. I hope you understand.

Pro Poser - Pro Daz is not really relevant tbh. Nor is it a help, it's part of whats making the Poser forums burn so bright at the moment.

Or maybe let's look at the Open June Forum Challenge Sticky still at the top of the forum - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2891053 Could of swore June ended quite a while ago now, yet still no winners announced...

I'm not meaning to start on you Johnny. I just don't like being told to run around in circles over and over, when I know all that will happen is I will end up Dizzy. It's not you fault and I don't expect you to fix it.

Hello Razor42

I looked over the FAQ and I did notice that there were a couple of answers that indeed need to be changed and updated I will address this and will deal with getting that resolved and all I ask is a bit of patience since i do have to go thru channels and get any changes to it approved. As to the June contest I will also look into why there has been a delay in announcing a winner. I have been for the last couple of weeks been promoting the staff picks which was a regular event that had sort of been dropped and am bringing back to recognize all the great artist with in this community. I ask that lets let the gripes of the past be just that in the past I will address all the issues that I can and if I ask that something is to be taken into private it is to keep threads on track of the original subject matter. I will not let threads become uncivil or become bastions for bashing or negativity. So I ask that you give me a chance to prove that I am here to participate contribute and help the membership.

Well Hi Lobo, It is good to (virtually) meet both of you guys and it's good to see mods being proactive in these forums. I sincerely hope this is the start of a positive direction for these long neglected DAZ Forums. As that is all I am asking and have been asking for a longggg time now.

Look, tbh I'm not here to Bash anything, but you have to also understand I have been here for for several years and sometimes I have felt the only thing I have been bashing is my head against a wall. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. So forgive my restraint in faith of seeing any real positive change implemented here. But I am hopeful :)

This thread was clearly troll bait from the first post and should never have been moved to the DS Forums. It should of been locked and left to languish in the Poser forums where it was spawned. Taking it off topic is probably the best thing that could happen to it.

But again nice to meet both of you

Thousends of all the same remote morph++ dial settings, and thousends of all the same slut wears. For DS I really liked G2 and I'm pretty excited about G3's joint bending abilities.

chaecuna ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2015 at 9:59 AM

It is not just a Poser problem, it is more general.

We all well know that Poser users diss anything Studio related (not DAZ related mind you, since they praise lavishly V4). Now go to DAZ forums and check the Carrara and Bryce ones. In the Carrara one you see people that, to justify their hopes of further Carrara development, concoct theories that make David Icke ones look like vulcanian logic. You see people seriously stating that Carrara is more powerful than Blender. In the Bryce forum you see people completely discouting any other application, ignoring that Bryce has been left in the dust by Vue and Terragen and these two are themselves in the process of being technologically surpassed by tools like Unreal or Unity!

I have come to the conclusion that people who have been exposed first to Kay Krause UI abominations have developed a bird-like "inprinting" that prevents them to even consider anything else. Any attempt to help them to see all the wonders (many of them free!) that the rest of the 3D world offers is doomed from start. The only (vulcanianly logical) conclusion is to let them on their own and not even visit their dens. For them the "you'll have to pray it from my cold, dead, fingers" is not a saying, it is their stance. Do we need them? No. Can they harm us? No. So... hasta la vista. baby.

Back on topic. I seldom use V4 any more, but she is still a great figure to have available due to all of the content out there. I tend to use Genesis 2 the most now. Genesis 3 is great, unfortunately G3F doesn't work in Carrara, which is my preferred app (with the Octane plugin), but I have used G3F a fair amount is DS.

Honestly you could pose a A3 at a rubbish tip leaning up against a moldy wall and still have a thing of beauty. I really have to get back to Carrara and buckle down and utilize it. I feel Iray has bought a new lease of life to Daz and the renders appearing in the gallery are proof of this. I also use Reality 4 and most of the Lux versions. One I have been experimenting with and find quite neat is Indigo. here is a pic of a couple of custom build 3D Australian GMH Sandman vans  for a animated clip I am working on. They have all the inbuilt motions right click everything Lights on off motor rocks air intakes. wheels forward/reverse/steer doors open etc and also carry particles interior has the customary bar and crushed velvet with working interior lights, corvette engines, smoke flames throwing side pipes etc Boeing 747 Throttle assembly for the gearshift The rear tires are so wide that there wouldn't be 12 inches between the Left and right inner walls. Just glad I held back .   I did some original shaping repairs in Carrara. In Daz they lose a bit of functionality in the particle/auto animation department but still be good for a scene or two.

@keith:

the golden rule states "do unto the others what the others do unto you" and, therefore, since you are not Studio user, you have no business to do in Studio Forum.

LOL That's not the golden rule! You've written a variation of the psycho's golden rule: do unto to others before they do it to you!

I thought the golden rule was "he who has the gold, makes the rules" :)

Yeah, the topic was the OP flame baiting Genesis Users, and then having this thread dumped to the DS forum from the Poser forum because Poser Mods didn't want to deal with it there. So unless you have something negative to say about Genesis your off topic....

So in short the topic is against the TOS, yet taking it off subject is against the TOS. There is no winning here anymore.

I've owned DAZ Studio, Poser, Carrara, etc for many years. I just don't understand why some people think our art preferences are a conspiracy plot.

I am in agreement with you Tony I run the 3 of them and Bryce they are just tools to do a job and I swear at all of them equally. All are pretty addictive too guaranteed to keep you poor :-)

Even though this was an attempt to flame bait Genesis users in the Poser forum, looking at what is being offered here, at RDNA, and other stores, the actual title of the thread appears to be correct. It does indeed look like most paying customers are paying for Genesis 2/3 content and not Victoria 4 or other figure content.

More and more vendors are transitioning to Genesis 2 and 3. I guess, if they want to make a living at producing content, they have to follow the money.
