Subject: Glitchy things I'm noticing while commenting

auntietk ( ) posted Wed, 19 August 2015 at 10:54 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 9:45 AM

First of all, every time I go to make a comment, it says "Leave a Comment," and if I don't delete it, that doesn't go away. If I'm not careful, every comment I make will start out ... Leave a comment. I'm thinking it's okay in the forum (although I notice that starting a new thread it's right there ... I left it for you to see), but in the galleries, I have to delete that standard little sentence in order to begin.

Am I spelling Renderosity correctly? Every time I've typed the word Renderosity today it comes up underlined in red as if I've made a typo. Could you add the name of your own website to your spell check list??

Hey! I like it that when I open an image it opens in a new window! That saves me having to click the back button twice and wait for the gallery page to reload. Nicely done! It's the first thing I've liked since you rolled out the new website.

Trying to view pictures in the gallery with all the thumbs being different sizes totally sucks. It's hard to keep track of where I've been. I think I've figured out how to make my own gallery uniform and have the pictures come out on a grid going forward, but unless everyone does the same thing, we're going to have this random look. Crazy!

I like it that you can no longer right-click a full view window and copy it. Nice to have that added layer of protection between our images and those who might "borrow" them.

You know, I still miss being able to hover over a thumb and see stats on the number of comments, etc. without opening the image or clicking on the eye. Hover stats were good.

Speaking of stats ... um ... you know they're still totally screwed up, right?

Genres within galleries are listed by what's most popular? Alphabetization ain't good enough for ya, huh? Why should I have to work that hard to find what I'm looking for? It's different in every gallery, of course. Not a lot of things posted in "fantasy" in the photography gallery, and I'm sure not a lot of landscapes posted in Poser. That means when I go from gallery to gallery, I won't be able to look at a certain genre without first finding it on a list of 50 (count 'em! 50!) genres.

When I do find the genre I want in a gallery, there are no page numbers. Those gallery pages are still on infinite scroll. What's new, "Sections," ... all on infinite scroll. My own gallery still has pages numbers, but nothing else seems to yet.

Every time I open a new page, I get a browser bar at the bottom that says, "Only secure content is displayed What's the risk?" What shenanigans do they think you're up to that they're showing me that all the time? (Current version of IE, btw.)

Going from gallery to gallery via Galleries, Sections, finding the gallery tab ... is cumbersome and annoying. I miss the dropdown menu that was on almost every page. Again ... an alphabetical list is easier to use. I realize the buttons are in alpha order, but going left to right left to right with only four on a line makes it slower to navigate.

Finding a specific artist's gallery page used to be easy as pie, but now it's a multi-step process. What a PIA that is!!

Bill and I both posted pictures this afternoon. I commented on his, he commented on mine. (This was necessary, as we're the only two people actually using the website right now. I don't mean to be snarky, but seriously ... nobody's here.) Neither of us got e-bots on the comments. I got the on-site notification right away, but ... no bots.

Okay ... just notes from my first actual browsing session. It didn't take long, since hardly anybody is posting anything.

I realize these issues may not be pressing, given the fact that everyone is hating everything you've done, but eventually someone will care. Right?

You're wrong I can right click and save as html full and have the whole page in a nice little folder complete with all Images full size.

Thank you!

Are you still not getting any ebots?

Please note there is not a risk, it is some things with the update (change over) that is flagging it. There is no real risk. :)

I'm happy to hear you like something from the update. ;)

I hate everything from the upgrade. The gallery is a jumbled mess, that giant white bar at the top is senseless, the reduced image sizes, the way the screen jumps makes you dizzy, the 1000 character limit in writers gallery, the not very intuitive layout... but, whatever, they are going to keep going forward with this despite anything anyone says or all the points brought up.

auntietk ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2015 at 1:52 AM

Nope, no ebots yet. I got one for this thread, but I've got two whole comments on my last post, and no email notification ... just the onsite thing, which I dislike.

Hey @auntiek- They're working on the e-bot notifications. It's rather odd that it works for some members, but not all.

Thanks!

Let's see ... Friday afternoon, 2:30pm PDT.

I AM getting e-bots on Forum thread posts still.

So ... no change ... all is as before, no improvement.

My notifications are piling up no matter what I do and don't seem to automatically go away like they used to. And do we need to make our own thumbnails now for every photo we post? Oh and you can still save the zoomed photos with one click just as easy as before. Just to let you know. I better not say how..........I agree with your concerns. IMHO the site is awful and almost unusable now.

beachzz ( ) posted Sun, 23 August 2015 at 12:54 AM

Everything auntietk said-----you've made renderosity impossible to naviagate, peruse and enjoy. I've gotten NO ebots, no notifications, no nothing. It wasn't broke, it didn't need fixin, so unfix it!!

Still no e-bots when people comment on my images. 12 on the notifications bell this evening, but zero bots.

BW Support stated in another thread that's what Notices and Activity Feed was for....Notices for Comments on your uploads and Activity Feed for Favs Uploads, I took that to mean No more ebots for those. Remember they did that once before when Nocices was first introduced and members screamed about it so bad they brought the Ebots back, maybe not this time.

I remember it well! I was on the beta for that one. I've seen what you're talking about, but have also seen a note that says they want us to keep them posted if we're not getting favorite or comment ebots, so I shall continue until somebody tells me something definitive.

BTW ... my bell says 6 this morning, but my only bots are on forum threads. :) 7 new posts from favs this morning, also no bots for that.

@lenord I do read these... 😕

@everyone 'Favorite Artists', 'Favorite Vendors' & 'Friends' have all been merged into 'Followers'. You can now easily track all the activity of your followers from your activity feed

For anyone interested in learning why a lot of the ebot notifications have been deprecated and how to use the activity feed for tracking updates, can read my post here @4223400

I'll be happy to clarify/answer any questions you guys might have. 😊

You said it didn't you, I wasn't making it up, just telling auntietk what the status of Ebots were, Sorry if it offended you didn't mean to.

Thanks, Lenord. I hadn't seen the other thread you linked me to, and hadn't heard ANYTHING from the folks at RR other than, "let us know if you're not getting bots, some people are and some people aren't, and we're working on it." Now it looks like it's a dead issue. Sheesh! I've spent enough time on this ... you'd think somebody could have given me a direct answer, right?

Anyway ... thanks again. I'll stop reporting the fact that I'm not getting any bots.

auntietk ( ) posted Mon, 24 August 2015 at 11:47 PM

Hi there! I thought I'd revisit and revise some of the things I've noticed that are glitchy and ask for an update.

  1. Leave a comment ... Every time I go to make a comment, the comment box already says "Leave a Comment," and if I don't delete it, that doesn't go away. If I'm not careful, every comment I make will start out ... Leave a comment. This is still an issue, and has not been addressed to the best of my knowledge. It seems like a simple enough thing. Will the programmers be looking into this?

  2. Infinite scroll ... Our individual galleries have page numbers now. Will we be getting page numbers for "Section" galleries and "What's new?"

  3. Still no artist's avatars or live link to an artist's gallery from a comment they left on my image. All avatars are blank, and names are no longer a live link.

  4. The default gallery and genre when uploading an image is 2D and Abstract. Anyone who doesn't remember to change those automatically uploads their image to 2D. The 2D gallery is filling up fast, and I'm sure it will leave some people mystified as to where their art landed! Any chance of getting this changed to neutral defaults?

  5. Search function ... I'm pretty sure I asked about this in a separate thread, so I'll go find it and bump it back up. I've seen a lot of people asking for the same thing, so I'm pretty sure it's still an issue.

Week Two. Are we getting any closer?

auntietk ( ) posted Tue, 25 August 2015 at 12:04 AM

I forgot ... a couple more things.

Looking at a thumbnail in the gallery (any gallery, doesn't matter), and the gallery name and genre are no longer there. Also the time stamp.

There's no place to automatically include camera meta data! Us photog types like to be able to see what kind of a camera someone is using, and what settings they chose. It's part of learning our craft, to see what choices other people are making. Can we have that back? I realize it's just for one gallery, but it's our version of crediting a vendor, sort of. I can go to a bunch of trouble to include that information in my caption, but ... holy crap ... that's a lot of work, especially when it was so easy before!

Thanks for checking in to these issues for us.

Everything you have listed is in our list of "to do's" or "look into further". Thank you for your patience so far as we get everything back lined up. :)

auntietk ( ) posted Wed, 26 August 2015 at 2:40 PM

This has started to be a bigger deal lately:

The default gallery and genre when uploading an image is 2D and Abstract. Anyone who doesn't remember to change those automatically uploads their image to 2D. The 2D gallery is filling up fast, and I'm sure it will leave some people mystified as to where their art landed! Any chance of getting this changed to neutral defaults?

UPDATE:

I check the 2D gallery for new art on a regular basis, and I'm seeing all sorts of stuff that doesn't belong in that gallery. One of the ways I "filter" against seeing material I find to be objectionable is that I don't go to galleries where I know I'm going to get my eye put out with somebody's 3D render of women's breasts, or material that portrays women as ... well ... never mind ... I don't need to get into the politics of why I don't like a lot of the work on RR. Since the default gallery is still 2D, I no longer have that filter. And yes, since you decided nudity in thumbnails was okay, I've filtered for the content advisory thumb, which I hate to do. I'm not a prude, just don't want everything "in my face." Some of it is a lot worse than others.

There are a lot of images in the 2D gallery right now that I would have been happy to have never seen, even in thumbnail size, because they would have been posted elsewhere.

Can you PLEASE take away the 2D and Abstract defaults???

Thanks!

agree... add a 'select a gallery...' and a 'select a genre...' at the top of each drop down option so that unless those have been addressed, the image cannot be processed to the galleries...

also, is there any way to reinstate the 'no comments allowed' option, pretty pretty please?

KimberlyC ( ) posted Wed, 26 August 2015 at 6:17 PM

Autie: lol! I seem to always be here huh? :)

I have brought up the gallery issue a few days ago.. I have not heard the status of it yet. :)

Giana: I will bring that up. :)
