start studio and no smart content

goofygrape ( ) posted Mon, 03 August 2015 at 5:25 PM

I wrote a long letter here about this but renderosity blocked it from loadinf the thread so the above one is good for a starter I guessย

thank you in advance.

Hi There. ย I wouldn't think Renderosity would block your letter goofy grape. They were however in the process of a lengthy site upgrade so perhaps you were affected by that. So is this a fresh install, upgrade to 4.8 or is it just a there one day gone the next type affair? I had it happen to me after an upgrade and a quick restart my content was back. I also noticed at the same time my DIM was pretty plain looking too after quite a while it filled up with my goods

Okay goofygrape let us know how you got along with it. I block everything Microsoft try to do to my computer since the time I went to get a coffee and comeback to find windows shutting down for a minor update with half my painstakingly compiled animation motion gone. ย So I am holding off on the Win 10 update since I'm halfway through clients animation project I would hate to tell them it's all gone wrong LOL.

Good luck with it

If your smart content is still empty, start up DAZ Studio and goย to Help -> Troubleshooting -> View log File ....

It should open the log file in a note pad. ย Scroll down through this file looking for something about "CMS". ย In my log file I see:

Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit

See if there is an error connecting to CMS.

ldgilman ( ) posted Tue, 04 August 2015 at 3:24 PM

I had a similar incident with my Win 10 update, except it was a neighborhood power fail, half way thru the update. Power came back, windows uninstalled Win 10, then I started over again.

so far I dont like win 10 it will take some getting used to .Ill try the log file thanks

Have you still not got your content? Have you opened your DIM and looked to see what it has listed under installed? If the products are there is the tick next to the products that are considered to be smart content. If yes then that will narrow it down to the next ย step - check your file path within Daz itself. Knowing a Windows update and seeing the casual "Relax and Sit back" message chances are all your stuff is on your next door neighbors computer.

Okay I have no idea how familiar you are with Daz so I put this step by step

I upgraded a secondary computer to Win 10 as a test and while it went smoothly it did change a few minor things associated with some other software so with the upgrade it is a possibility its GPS lost it's way :-)ย

Open the Daz program

  1. ย Checking your ย log as you did it appears to state it is connected to the CMS but we look at the path anyway just to see where its going

Edit>Preferences> Dialog box opens with a series of tabs at the top choose CMS its last tab on right ย you should see something like -

C:/Users/YourComputerName/AppsData/Roaming/Daz 3D/cms

there will also be a port number underneath which won't be blank probably 5 numbers

If both are present next step in same dialog box

  1. Next tab back to left Content Library

Bottom button Content Library Manager click it when it opensย

you will see in the right hand side panel Content Sets

"Current Directories"

Daz Studio Formats click the + sign next to that you should see

C:/Users/Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library

Let me know what you see goofygrape

That looks a little pear shaped to me goofygrape. your content is missing because you don't haveย

C:/Users/Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library

if you add that then your content will appear like magic my friend. Possibly close and reopen Daz after making change or click the refresh but should solve issue

I hate to hear it.
So if you followed the instructions I put you obviously located the folder but the cupboard is bare. Do you know where you moved all the content too?
you put this in the comment I thought you had moved the external content like if you bought something here from Rendo you unzip it into the folder which would not account for main content

Your comment below -

--now under documents it used to say that but nothing in the folder ,I took that out .my daz 3d library opps-

this "I took that out" is sure a flag did you move it or delete it ?

under documents ,there was a folder named "MY DAZ 3D LIBRARY" also DAZ 3D..
I took the stuff out of the folder my daz 3d library and put it in the daz 3d folder, into my library.
Next and the only other thing I did was the update to the newest studio.

LPR001 ( ) posted Fri, 21 August 2015 at 1:34 AM

There is the problem my friend if you moved them Daz wont know where to look.

Your content is not missing it has been moved I could try to guide you till the cows come home but if everything is not how DAZ intended it to be then anything I suggest will never work

a)Did you move it as whole folder and just drop it in ? in other words can you reverse the changes you made back to how it was originally. (if yes then this will not be hard to rectify)
You would put folder back how it was ensure it is Named correctly and then follow the guide I had put above to set up the path to the folder from inside Daz
if
b)Or did you go to the extent of shifting things like runtime, poses etc and pulling the folders about?. this would be a mess and if this was how you did it and would prompt the next question

Do you own much content or are you just using the content Daz provided with the software?

If you have pulled the folders around it would be a pain even for the experienced to sort that out. Anything you buy from Daz is in your product library so you can basically uninstall Daz Studio reinstall manually then via the DIM reinstall which would also contain your purchases this would be last resort only as could be big download if you have bought a lot of stuff.

I took everything out and put the folders into my library and you know now that I think harder I just took off the daz 3d my left (my library) and droped it into the daz folder .Then installed the latest studio
as far as content massive would be a short word to say I'v got stuff.:)
Most likely will just sit back and start over new install

Tony_Stark ( ) posted Sat, 22 August 2015 at 7:25 PM

Smart Content is a good idea, but it never worked for me.

LPR001 ( ) posted Sat, 22 August 2015 at 8:21 PM

I am the same goofy both from DAZ store and External purchases like here The software itself pales in comparison to the folders of content it builds up and I could not imagine having to get content download again. look for proprietary content and your other must be there too

I really feel you would remember pulling apart the folders as it would be a labor not to go unnoticed
one last try if this don't show up then new install would be need because you are looking for something that is not there LOL

Go to C drive and type in search bar Exact copy/paste from here be quicker

Genesis 2 Base Female.duf

when it shows up the DSON file right click and choose show folder location then you will know where you content is. If you had picked everything up together moved it then all your stuff should be there still together. Whether it is as it should be file structure wise that would count if you did as you say above then you should just be able to pick it up and put it back . If you look up into the address bar you will see the path. Click on each subheading from right to left until you see a folder you had either renamed when moved or possibly dare I say My Daz 3D Library then once satisfied that is your gear hit in same bar but back next to left it would have been Public Documents but we know it is not - it will be whatever and where ever you placed it GET THAT ADDRESS top bar C:Could be anything> Whatever> whatever> whatever

I rush things and sometimes I go to move something to a new location temporary click new folder don't even bother to name it that is fine until you have New Folder323 then it don't mean Sh.... :-)

Hi ,LPR001: I'm back on track now, when looking for the above text the conputer comes back as cant find, but if I look my self this is the find(StudioMy LibraryPeopleGenesis 2 Female)a DSON file?. I also found a lot of missing files under( userspublicpublic documents daz 3d)

LPR001 ( ) posted Sun, 13 September 2015 at 4:36 AM

Well goofy that is good news. You may run into a few difficulties when loading certain products (Pop ups saying it can't locate the "file name" usually .jpg extention.) Main thing is that you had not deleted all your content and as you know that would be a massive download. I wouldn't mind using the DIM to set right my entire library from that particular store but I would have no chance retracing my footsteps from all the other sites. There would not be enough hours in the day...or month

this one here sounds about right ( userspublicpublic documents daz 3d) if on C: unless you wanted it elsewhere LOL. If you were to follow instructions above and point your DIM to that then you would be really getting somewhere.

C:/Users/Public/PublicDocuments/Daz 3D This one here is where Daz unzips your purchases and updates from the store. This will not be your data from Rendo or any other site but very good start IMO as if you moved the folder then chances are it is all lurking around that general area.

Where you located this there should be one more folder further down C:/Users/Public/PublicDocuments/Daz 3D - Install manager handles this

C:/Users/Public/PublicDocuments/My Daz 3D Library - This is where a lot of your store stuff gets installed to again DIM handles this for the majority

Sometime Daz help or a manual download from Daz site you will be instructed to unzip into the top one. morphs etc are vital to go there

C:UsersComputerNameDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioMy Library - This is your playground. When you buy something outside of Daz you unzip it here.

if you can get it set now that you have noted finding two of these already to all be in order you will be back to rendering by christmas :-)

First pic shows the two folders in C>User I highlighted the one you have not mentioned

The second pic this folder should be easily located in you regular 'Documents" folder from your desktop this is as described above Goofy's playground.

Excellent progress just the same.

LPR001 ( ) posted Tue, 15 September 2015 at 12:05 AM

Hi Goofy it is going to be specific to what you have in your Daz 3D folder various programs I have Bryce too but it is in another folder all on it's own. Why didn't Daz put my Bryce folder all neat and tidy in there too with the rest of it? Because that would be logical. So the "Studio" is in your regular Daz folder in Documents if you were to dbl click on that you would see "My Library" that is the folder I choose to unzip unzip my downloads from other sites which are then found in the - Contents Library as opposed to the Smart Contents.

So I think the My Daz 3D Library is rather important considering it houses nearly all of your Daz onsite purchases and if you are not seeing it as in pic 1 then your content really is missing :-)

If you open explorer and copy/paste from here or type this in exactly without the quotes " My Daz 3D Library " in search and wait a few minutes you should be shown the whole folder. If it comes up then right click copy entire folder and paste it in the location of the first pic which is C:/Users/Public/PublicDocuments so it looks same as pic 1 Then open your Daz and take a peek.

windows 10 really is different when I type the quote it goes online, then if typed in run it says can't find MY. What is the safest way to dump Daz studio and start over ? New download of studio. Dang this is going to hurt.

LPR001 ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2015 at 2:13 AM

Well before you go to that extent in Windows 10 click the magnify glass icon (bottom left) and type in the bottom box. Directly above that you will see two icons one on left says 'My Stuff" one on right says "Web" click on the 'My Stuff" a second window opens larger That will limit the search to the hard drives/external hard drives on your computer. If you don't click one of the two it will try to bring up Web and your stuff. If you were to reinstall Daz look on the bright side it won't delete your content bought in from outside of Daz or the store for that matter because it is not in the correct folder for the installer to do so in the first place.

Better stil why don't we get Daz to find your stuff. Its not ideal and once the folders are located and moved you can delete the old paths anyway. Do this, open Daz and just the two moves required then click "Do search" make sure all the drives are ticked then just wait Daz will find every file it can read on your computer and external drive. Hopefully they will be in folders we can work through to retrieve and place in right location Step one click on the 4 bars with arrow you see at top of this open box near content folder Screenshot (347).png

Step two Make sure drives are selected the hit the "do search" button go have coffee. Once it has finished click the windows logo + print screen on your keyboard so you get screen shot for reference You could click accept and all your content would be available to use but might be a bit of a dogs breakfast but can be deleted

Products and Categories use the database therefore essentially an extension of smart Content. Does anything show under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats in the Content Library pane?

malwat ( ) posted Tue, 22 September 2015 at 10:37 AM

I'm interested to hear that you unzip direct to My Library. So often I have bought stuff and then not immediately unzipped it. I have found that having it in a discreet folder section allows me to easily confirm whether the unzip has happened. It is a bit of hassle, but it does seem to work for me, and I can also check those unzipped files to identify a specific object or whatever and see the directory structure, since DIM doesn't usually help with third-party stuff as efficiently as with Daz items.

Try clicking on the Default element. I will be surprised if non Daz items show up - I usually seem to end up searching My Library through explorer (Windows) and noting the location of files before going to them through the Daz Contents pane. I also sometimes simply click on an item, which then opens DS with the item in it and then somehow becomes visible - If you want belt and braces save it as a Daz Content/My Library whatever. Another useful tip is to search the Poser part of Daz in the Content pane - again, I find things I can't find otherwise. Hope this helps.
