can i do that on all my images in one go? i have a few hundred here.
the size of those ads next to my hard worked art i offer for people to enjoy is 'affronting' - i think is the right word

I don't think Misty is talking about giving permission to Renderosity to use HER gallery images for advertising. I think she means that the advertisements Renderosity gets paid to show in our gallery pages. If you open any image you'll see a giant ad for something in the store on the right which is sometimes bigger than our gallery image and distracts the viewer. But besides the Renderosity marketplace ads we also have other ads like the one in the screenshot that takes you to the artist's Kickstarter page. Why should this be next to our images and at that size? At least place them in a lower position at a more unobtrusive size. I've never seen ads of that size on any other site.
I agree with everyone that the ads are way to obtrusive and I run a 27" iMac and the ads are HUGE. However I did install an AD Blocker and no longer have to be affronted by them, but not everyone does this. Kalypso is correct that these ads are bigger than any other leading artist site and take away from the experience. I've seen a huge decline in the number of people posting here and the community seems to be going to almost non existent when other websites offer a much more aesthetically pleasing site. I hope Rendo does listen to the masses and change this for the better as I would love to see Rendo flourish. I pretty much started here in 2003 and would prefer to stay here, but at this moment things are having me reconsider other options. I hope it doesn't come to that.
i didn't mind the links to vendor credits that used to be under the gallery image. I only gave a credit to store items i've used and would endorse.
These new jumbo ads appeared after the latest site redesign. It's commercial use of my artwork. I don't allow my artwork to be used commercially without financial agreement.

pic removed from quote to save space! :)
Those options are for new gallery uploads, is there a way to opt out all earlier images without deleting and re-uploading all images? I have no interest in allowing my stuff on the parasite that is Facebook.
I know they won't have, because there was no marketing opt out option before, hence my request to have an option to apply the no marketing choice to images uploaded pre site update. The pic I showed earlier (the green car with the big ad by it) was uploaded in 2012, so technically did not have the marketing option checked, yet if looked at now is being usurped by a ginormous ad.
I'm thinking we are getting confused...
We have had the option to where you can allow Renderosity to use your image for marketing purposes for quite sometime. That is not something new. Now, the ads you are seeing on the side of the page have nothing to do with the marketing box. If you have the marketing box checked or unchecked, that ad will still appear. It is simply on that page.
Hope that helps. :)

Yes, but by the very nature of that advert appearing next to a user's image, even though that isn't what the intention of the marketing check box is for, you are using that image for marketing, even if opted out. I do understand that it is a part of the page, but in my opinion it just harks back to a site redesign that wasn't really needed. I mean, look at the example Misty posted, it looks terrible, and not a good reflection on a so called 'art' site. Imagine going to an art gallery, and next to every painting on the wall is a massive ad that totally overpowers the image you want to look at. That would be quite poor, don't you think?
If Renderosity is making money from the Marketplace then I don't believe they'll consider anything we have to say about the galleries or the forums. Are the forumites and artists such big spenders that if they abandon the community the Marketplace will suffer? Or are there plenty of customers who could care less about the gallery since they don't post here or take part in the forums?
The bottom line is that Renderosity will listen only if their revenue drops.

Before the site redesign, we averaged between 4500 to 6000 users on line at any particular time.
We haven't cracked 3000 since the site redesign.

since the whole issue here is obviously about ads placed in the rendo layout for site intern or extern products and NOT about permission to use artists' art in ads...
here is my input concerning ad blockers: as long as i used a pc or rather a netbook, of course i wouldn't even dream of not using one. i lived almost without ads for years. hence i never realized how infested the whole web, including my favorite sites, was really. but my netbook decided to dump me, leaving me with my smartphone and a friend's leaned tablet, both android. there is a version of the same adblocker as an app - however as i looked at the permissions needed for this app, the list was quite long and i got the impression that this app was quite intrusive. i opted to not use it, and couldn't find a satisfying alternative (ok i didn't search for long, thinking i'd be back on a computer soon, but i'm still stuck with the useless tablet...). so, i'm 200% pro adblocker, but i guess in certain cases it's impossible to use one, which leaves the door open for ad infestation, and i'm not happy about how renderosity looks like at the moment.
and putting ads where people exhibit their art, however big the ads are, is shameless. there are ethical limits where business/profit making is concerned, and imo rendo has clearly overstepped them. tho' while the eyesore is there, yes why not pay out the artist whose gallery is being defaced ~
IN THE END, MERITOCRACY HAS NOT ONLY PERMEATED OUR DAILY LIVES AND WORK, BUT ALSO OUR HEARTS, OUR MINDS AND OUR PERCEPTION OF ART...
i am so sick of this face, every gallery page i looked at this morning.
sick of it sick sick sick sick sick SICK of IT

I hope everyone will please try to understand that the Galleries at Renderosity are FREE. The split that Renderosity gets from our vendors (who choose to broker through us) is what keeps the Galleries free. So, showing our vendors' banners in the Galleries (and other places on the site) is how we try to make sure that the vendors' are being supported in return. Without our vendors, the FREE parts of our Renderosity community would not exist.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The people who run Renderosity aren't artists. They don't understand Art, they only understand Business (and badly at that). They don't understand how destructive it is to have ads in Galleries, they apparently don't even understand the PURPOSE of Galleries! They are not here to improve Art, they are only here to make Money. Glad I pulled my artwork out of here long ago ;) If you want to display your Art, you are better off doing so at a site that actually know what Art is and know how to appreciate it!

so - LG is a vendor here? wonder what they sell. 3D monitor models maybe? I'm completely OK with banners from people on this site, but I'm not with ads from totally unrelated companies.
Hey folks-- we're really sorry you're not happy with the ads using on the side banner. But, like Jenifer said, "showing our vendors' banners in the Galleries (and other places on the site) is how we try to make sure that the vendors' are being supported in return." Hello ehliasys,
I was referring to the right side banner 300x600 on the gallery images that is for vendors. If you see an LG banner there, please email us a screenshot to admin@renderosity.com.
We are considering some possible alternatives on size or placement, but need some time to review the different options.
Best Regards!
I am really glad this came up. With the exception of this response I am not posing here in any forum, I am not spending here but I had forgotten my gallery. In the process of deleting that now.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Clearly from what has been said, keeping the galleries free to users is costing Rendo a fair bit, add that to the fortune it must be costing Rendo for the improved benefits of the Prime membership I am beginning to feel guilty. So I have done my bit and deleted my whole gallery, fifteen pages if renders built up over the last five years, that should save them some money.
Of course that also means they can't use any of my 300+ images to advertise vendors products, and all the links to the products and vendors that I used in the images is gone as well, still omelets and breaking eggs and all that, then again we must remember that this is what Rendo want us to do but were just too shy to ask, why else would they have made these changes otherwise.
The only other point is that, while my art was nothing special, in that 300+ images only one was a nude, so I am afraid that the galleries may look very slightly more like Poser is only ever used for pin ups, but only very slightly.
OK back to lurk mode until my Prime membership runs out, I may as well get some benefit, (if you can call it that) for my wasted $29.99.
