Hi. In a couple few days I'm going to be uploading a free "figure" that I made...

It has easy pose tentacles, IK, numerous ERC controls, high res textures and displacements, and comes with 2 texture set options to start. The figure also has over 140 morphs...

I also plan on creating additional expansions for the fellow. The way that I built the model will allow me to easily create additional body parts, conformers, smart props and texture/displacements sets that can be mixed for a greater variety of creature options ranging from organic to mechanical. I already have a bunch of ideas, some already in the process of construction. Also, I'll upload templates and a blank .cr2 for those who might want to customize on their own. Anyway, It should be uploaded here, sharecg, and my google drive by the middle of the week. I hope you'll download and find some use for my monster head thingy... Happy Halloween!

This thing is really cool! What is the scale? How much of the Poser stage will it fill?

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Sun, 25 October 2015 at 4:46 AM

I originally envisioned Cthog as being a large creature but it occured to me that its scale might be a little disorienting for people that are expecting a human sized head, with that in mind It'll load a little larger than V4's head and in that relative position, so 10% actual YTran 64, ZTran 3. Cthog's actual size is enough that he's feeling a little conflicted about his true feelings for his new roommate. The materials are set up at inches, If you want to utilize it at the actual scale I imagine you'll have to make adjustments to bump and displacement. Or change display units? In any case I'm including some utility poses for resetting various things (IK, individual tentacle rotations or easy pose, etc.), it'll be in the ReadMe... still hammering those final flourishes out. Any suggestions are appreciated. Oh yeah, utilizing figure restore will set all scales and translations to actual. scalejoke.jpg

Another thing I should mention, the rotations/translations on each tentacle base actor (the actor that's the first link or child of the head) have limits brute force written into the .cr2 so that a user won't have to worry about intersecting the head when pulling the tentacles about or utilizing IK. The limits are in effect regardless of Figure:Limits settings but have been set at values that still allow a pretty flexible range of motion in those actors. Also, those base actors have had their channels adjusted as you would with a figure's eyes in order to prevent deformation of the parent (head).

Well I grabbed him, will give him a test drive in Daz and see how he works. I checked the folders and images so the mats should work. Will let you know the result.

Cool, didn't test in DS. No personal bias or anything... it won't run on my ancient pre intel Mac. Tested in Carrara 8 pro, EasyPose and ERC was botched in there. The figure relies heavily on ERC, so...

Probably should note that just like anything, Cthog will need some personalized TLC for your own rendering purposes. The materials I provided are basic RT rendering mats with an emphasis on my preferred bump and displacement set ups. Being that I use Poser 8 I utilized BB's VSS PR3 skin formula with some modifications for my example renders. The renders here and in my gallery reflect this. VSS formula is not included with the DL. In other words, experiment!

Well I just did a test run, works fine, except the easy pose, but that might be my fault. Textures loaded no problem, I was able to move parts, I used the dials for the morphs, and everything seems to be fine. The images in the texture folder will be fine for creating new textures. My only suggestion for anyone using Daz is that all the files that have ._ in front of them can be deleted, they will not work in Daz, but then they are for a mac so don't matter. All in all it's a great new model to work with. I used Daz 4.8 and should work in older versions. You have an option to load textures from the pose folder or materials folder, I tested and both worked.

You can edit the free section page to include that it will work in Daz as many will ask.

I didn't create any mac only files? They're all standard .jpg/.png files... Mac only is a misunderstood relic from Posers past... unless DS is somehow adding files to my DL? In any case, I personally don't consider the figure DS compatible if EasyPose doesn't function properly or some image file weirdness is happening that requires something to be deleted. I appreciate the heads up though.

when you zip folder of files in OS X, it creates some invisible files like .DS_store (unrelated to daz, part of unix) that windows users can see. analogous to windows producing thumbs.db files. hence there are some ds_store cleaner apps.

monster looks great!

I only suggested deleting the .files as pc users can't use them and it does not interfere with the item at all, all necessary files will still be there, the . are just extra's not needed, and can be deleted if that's what the person wants. As for the easy pose working or not, as I said that might have been me. It's the new Daz and it has glitches, I am sure I can work it out.

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Wed, 28 October 2015 at 5:56 PM

Cool Sea80, I had totally forgotten about that .DS store Mac thing (as miss nancy explained). Cthog's my baby of the moment and I tend to be obsessive so you had me in a panic for a moment, I of course want everything to work as it has for me. :) Hope you get a cool pic or 2 with it in DS, you'll find that it has uses beyond its surface or default appearances. Happy rendering.
