Subject: Poser 11 and Old Content

Since I have never done it before I have a question. If I decide to purchase Poser 11 when it is released will I be forced to re-install all the content that I have for Poser 10?

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Fri, 13 November 2015 at 1:57 PM

You can add all your existing content. There is no need to reinstall the 3d assets that you already have.

Just install Poser11. In the new Poser11 library, add your existing Poser10 runtime and you are ready to go. All existing content works in Poser11.

For Firefly renders, alle xisting material room setups work as before. If you want to use the enhanced "Superfly" render engine, and want to use the Cycles nodes, you can build a second material setup for the Superfly render engine. Both material setups "live" together in the Material room. Selecting one or the other render engine will automatically pick up the correct Material nodes.

Best regards, Tony

And no stupid Content Database to backup first, either...

Backups are good. Having to rely on a database to organize content is stupid.

Poser 11 does have a database, but it's not stupid LOL. It's only there to speed up searching and certainly not "needed" to use your content. It will crawl the linked runtimes so the search features work faster and the new Keyword categories work quickly,

Wait what? Keywords? Inside the library you can edit the keywords for any content. (In the extended details) Then in the search pane of the library use those keywords to quickly find content.

and most pythons which worked in 2014 also work in this version and so does Gen 1+2 via DSON but these do require re-installing (the pythons) and do not forget to add your DS library folder to the runtimes list for Gen 1+2 to work

Meta data needs a database. Having a database to add functionality to organised content is not stupid.

During the webinar yesterday, they pointed out a tip for telling if a Firefly node will function in Superfly. If the wire connecting the node is black or a very dark color then it is not valid. Superfly is based on real-world physics so any node setup not possible in the real world will not work in Superfly.

"All existing content works in Poser11." sadly this is not true. some textures for figures will render black. but better poser users than I are working on working arounds . mostly I believe its SSS maps are a problem.

bantha ( ) posted Sun, 22 November 2015 at 3:52 AM

Stuff will, to my experience, only render black with SuperFly. FireFly should work like before.

"Just install Poser11. In the new Poser11 library, add your existing Poser10 runtime and you are ready to go." Unfortunately I have five runtimes (Poser 6, 7, Pro 2012, Pro 2014, Pro 11) and Poser Pro 11 will only show half of them. With the others I get this problem: "The added runtime does not contain proper category subfolders and Poser is unable to create them." Other runtimes might be added but only show 10% of their content! There were no problems like this in Poser Pro 2014. Why have things gone backwards?

basicwiz ( ) posted Sun, 29 November 2015 at 5:21 AM

I had no problem installing all 17 of my runtimes. And every item is present. Perhaps there are problems in some of yours? Check that there is a file called "runtime" immediately under all of the top level names you have given the runtime.

jondevitt ( ) posted Mon, 30 November 2015 at 11:52 AM

I just discovered the problem - I was trying to load the "runtime" folders from earlier editions when I should have been loading the software folders (e.g. "Poser 6" / "Poser 7").

I have just deleted daz studio hopefully for the last time and purchased poser 11. Will poser find my old content in an automatic search function or must it be manually loaded? Getting worried as have some 30k files. Also can I save/export to bryce from poser? Thanks,

Online Now!

There should be a script which will scan your drive for any existing runtime folders.
