Subject: PP2 files and external OBJs

Darkworld ( ) posted Fri, 05 October 2001 at 3:04 PM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 6:39 PM

does anyone know how a prop file (pp2) could be forced to recognize an external obj? when you add the prop file to the library as a pp2 it has everything included... which is unacceptable for sites like DAZ. I know some text editing is involved as far as the pp2 file is concerned... but not sure how to proceed. Thanks!

Traveler has a tutorial at MorphWorld. http://www.morphworld30.com/

Thanks! i tested his tutorial but there is one problem... creating the external obj resets the model to make it ENORMOUS!! that means i take it that i have to get the scale perfect BEFORE exporting it from my modeler? oh man i hope not cause that is going to suck... im working on a multi prop/figure package that will need a lot of interaction and its going to be very hard to compare all the sizes etc and have everything ready before exporting it from rhino. oh well, it may be that is the only way to do it... just my luck. at least i know how to make the obj external now though, ashame it screwed the size all to hell, now i'll have to re-joint and pose all the poseble parts in the scene because i have to start over from the modeler. if by any chance you know a way around this, that would be awesome, if not thanx anyway at least now i know how it works :)

Don't know how I missed this post the first time I looked ~: (deleted Q. above). I was trying to copy from a Daz file but it wasn't working, been fighting with it for a couple of hours now, couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong. This tutorial looks to be what I need, so thanks from me too.

With CR2Edit5: open the prop, go to menu, More Tools/Create Library File With External OBJ. Click Done in the popup. Total time: less than one minute. Good because this other method is still crashing on me. I will try that.

OOPS!! I hadn't tried Traveler's tutorial. Maybe import to Poser, do your scaling and positioning, then export as OBJ, re-import to Poser, add to the prop library, then edit the PP2. I forgot about CR2Edit. I have the program, but I haven't used it much, yet.

hey Dwilmes thanks for the tip i got the newest version of cr2edit; which is 5.1 unfortunately what you describe has either been changed or removed, ill dig through the instructions, but there seems to be no create library file option in the more tools.

Darkworld ( ) posted Sun, 07 October 2001 at 12:21 PM

i think i figured it out, its a lot fancier now but i found the option for external geometry, thanks!

dwilmes ( ) posted Sun, 07 October 2001 at 1:15 PM

Hi Darkworld, glad you figured it out, another person found it hard to follow also cuz the instructions are given as you move along rather than as a separate entry in the manual. I will be making a tutorial for this tool to make it easier to see the whole picture, will announce when it's ready. Also, if you have more than one embedded geom in a file, you can have problems, it is best to add them one at a time and process between additions. A very new tool, so still flakey. really appreciate all the help, one more question though. i think i figured out how to remake the pp2, it gave me the option to rename it, i found the obj file it made, the problem is that the new pp2 file (which i named harp2) is nowhere to be found, i even did a search for harp2.pp2 on all my hard drives and its not there. is there a step i am skipping perhaps? thanks!

dwilmes ( ) posted Mon, 08 October 2001 at 8:36 AM

Not sure what you did, as there IS no option to rename the file, it is saved as xxxnew.xxx This is true with both More Tools/Create Library File With External OBJ and with simply exporting the OBJ using the center row icon for that. You can write me at info@zenwareonline.com, so we don't clutter up the PoserTech forum.
