Subject: Editing Gallery Images

RodS ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 11:49 AM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 10:48 PM

Is there a way the editing feature for gallery images can be fixed? Here's what I'm referring to:

If you try to make a correction to your gallery upload - say you want to correct a typo, or add a few words to the description - you pretty much have to re-upload everything. If you leave the "Use Current Thumbnail" box checked...... Well, it doesn't. It just auto-generates a thumbnail from the entire image. So you basically have to re-upload both the thumbnail and the image. Then you have to go in and re-enter all the vendor credits because those are now gone. I like to give the vendors proper credit, but when you use as many items as I do sometimes, it gets to be a real pain to re-enter everything.

It would be 17 kinds of awesome if you could get this to work the way it did pre-revolution. Please. It's making me pull my hair out, and I don't have much left to spare. :-D

considering this has been mentioned in at least two other recent threads without much acknowledgement from staff, it's nice that there has been some kind of response to this issue somewhere...

thank you RodS for bringing this up yet again...

Hey @Rods- So sorry about this. I just tested it out on my own gallery image and didn't see an issue.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, please- when you're trying to edit one of your images, it won't allow you to? What does it say? And, when editing the image, you wish to use the thumbnail you uploaded in the first place- correct? But.. instead of using the original thumbnail, it automatically uploads a generated one based on your image- correct?

Let me know and thanks so much!

I'm sorry Rod! I posted but I have a feeling there was an issue and it didn't actually post my message. I did test this out and I see what you are referring to. I will bring this up so that it can be fixed.

Thanks!! :)

@ Hope and Kimberly,

I'll try to clarify the issue.

If you want to edit something in your description - say you noticed a typo - when you use the edit feature:

  1. You HAVE to re-upload your thumbnail. If you just leave the little tick-box checked (the one that has "Use Existing Thumbnail" next to it), the system will auto-generate a thumbnail from the entire image. It will NOT use the existing thumbnail.

  2. You HAVE to re-enter ALL the Vendor Credits. If you don't, the system just removes them.

I don't know how to explain it any more clearly than this.

In addition to this, when I checked my gallery last night I found at least 8 - 10 of the thumbnails had been replaced by smaller versions of the entire image. This was done by your software/system and not by me. This is what members are referring to when they complain that the "thumbnails are disappearing."

None of these problems occurred prior to the latest 'revolution' upgrade(?) to the site. Hopefully, your programmers will find a way to fix these issues.

Thanks!

Thanks for explaining this, Rod. I went to the programmers and explained what was going on. They put it on their to-do list. I promise this will get looked it, but unfortunately, I'm unable to tell you when. I'm really sorry this has been happening- truly. I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear from them!

Thank you Hope!

I went in and tested it on one of my images. I edited it, left 'Use current thumbnail' checked, and it worked! Thanks again! Now, if the thumbnails will stay put, everything should be good with the galleries.

Unfortunately what they didn't fix was having to re-enter ALL the vendor credits. I uploaded an image a few hours ago and then went to edit it and all the vendor credits were gone so I had to re-enter them. Then I remembered something else to edit, went back again and all the vendor credits were gone again, so I had to re-enter them (this makes it three times). I do like to give the vendors credit but if I have to edit an image and this continues to happen I'm not sure I'll be going through the trouble again. This was brought up by the OP so apparently it didn't get fixed. Can you see that it does? This was not an issue a few weeks ago.
