Subject: How do you import/convert Poser hair for use in Daz Studio 4.8?

philipd77 ( ) posted Thu, 28 January 2016 at 6:07 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 2:36 AM

From what I've gathered, so long as the Poser hair product is not dynamic, supposedly it should work in Daz Studio, but I don't know if any special conversion or set up is necessary, particularly with the .hr2 files. Can anyone shed light on this, please?

Thanks,

Just link the Poser runtime where the hair resides inside the DS library and then load the hair as normal. It should work fine.

You dont have to do anything other than load it via your directory in Studio.

Hi Laurie, thanks for the response. Could you please clarify what you mean by "linking the Poser runtime where the hair resides"? I'm new to Daz Studio and have been using DIM to install content from the Daz Store and manually unzipping Renderosity content inside my existing "Daz 3D Library ".

Your Daz 3D Library contains a runtime directory, and that is probably where you are installing it.

Content from Renderosity or any other non-DAZ store will never appear in smart content in DAZ Studio. (Much of the old V4/M4 content in the DAZ Store does not have Smart Content either). You need to find the content in the content panel. For Poser content, you need to look under "Poser Formats -> My DAZ 3D Library" if that is the library you have been putting it into. Under there you will find Figures, Hair, Poses, .... Usually the hair itself is under Figures or Hair and the color presets will be under Poses or sometime Materials. Most Hair material made for Poser will work in DAZ Studio, but a few hairs may have material that do not render like the promo images. Most Poser hair will not have Iray material, but the Poser material might well auto convert ok to Iray material. If the hair material uses Poser procedural shaders, it can render badly in DS, but I have not seen much of that.

On the library pane just right click on Poser Formats > Add Runtime and then choose the respective runtime, that's all.

Thank you for the detailed explanation; I'll give this a go.
