Subject: Poser CR2 or Content Files

StevesArtGallery ( ) posted Mon, 08 February 2016 at 6:55 PM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 2:33 PM

Is it okay ( legal ) to give away Poser 10 ( or any version of Poser ) Cr2, PPZ or other library content files. Since the CR2 points to geometry that has to be owned and installed for the file to open. I have been working on Roxie Characters. Any information or help is welcome & appreciated.

I could be wrong and I am hopeful someone with a little more Poser knowledge will jump in but if I am not mistaken when making a character you need to strip out all the proprietary morphs out of the CR2 file before you can distribute it. You can include morphs you have created but not any that belong to SmithMicro there numerous tutorials on Youtube and for sale that walk you thru the process of best way to removing proprietary morphs out of the CR2. This link will give you some general information that still holds true today even thou the info was written some time ago http://www.morphography.uk.vu/cr2master.html

You will have no problems if you decode it against the original file with RTE Encoder. This is the warranty that the other user owns the original file.

Both suggestions are accurate, using RTEncoder is a sure way to banish your creation to the phantom zone of "this is more trouble than it's worth" for many (MANY) casual Poser users though. .cr2's are generally redistributable if

They contain no proprietary morph data

They are not a derivative work that directly competes with the source figure. That is, support add ons intended for use with source are fine. Transferring the rig over to a completely new figure available as a market competetive property to said source figure (and presumably claiming as an original intellectual property) is a no-no.

Thanks for the replies…sorry for the delayed response. Renderosity's link to RTEncoder gets a 404 to. I stripped all the morphs from Roxie, will start from there. May take longer than I anticipated. :0
