Subject: Help with Dina mat files

dmartin ( ) posted Mon, 08 October 2001 at 3:16 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 3:29 AM

When I go to add the DTG Mat fromt he pose library,It keps asking me to locate the Head and body bump map.I can find it and click on it but after a few seconds it ask to locate it again. I had trouble with StyfeZZ Asia,But not like this. Does the rsr file need to be edited to change the directory because it looking for it somewherelse? I know Poser really freaks out whenever it can'find A texture. Thanks David

David, If you are using Poser 4, you need to convert the bump.jpgs to .bum files. To do that, load Dina and go to the materials window. Go to the bump map section and click load. Click on the headbump.jpg for Dina and Poser will say it needs to convert jpg files to bum. Click yes and Poser will convert the file to bum. Do the same for the bodybump.jpg. Now you will have bum files in the texture folder. Next time Poser asks for them, just click on the bum file. Sorry that you have to do that extra step (it's outlined in the readme file), but Poser's bum files are huge and to include them would ahve made the download file WAY too big to be practical. Diane

Kind of related, but not completely... I know ProPack uses .jpgs for bump maps, but if there is a .bum file, will it still read it? Or will it only use .jpg files? I don't have ProPack, so I dunno...

hmmm. Haven't tried using a bum file in Pro Pack. I'll have to check that out.

Diane,I had a case of stupid ass earlier,In the pose directory, there was your dtg dina map and the dina map for Pro Pack,I wasnt thinking to good I guess. When I use the pose mat for pro pack,it still ask for the head and body texture only once. When I load A body or head texture manually as A bump map, poser doesn't ask if I want to convert it to an .bum file.Does pro pack read it as an .bum without converting it?It does this when I load The textures manualy. I am using P4 w/Pro pack. Cin,poser is suppose to convert a bmp,Tif,I don't think it converts jpeg.In the Poser manual that's only what it says it converts. As I mentioned above,I couldn't get to convert them.I know before I had pro pack it would. Thanks, David

POser 4 will convert bmp, jpg, tif and gif to a bum. butyou have to load the file into the bump material editor first.. poser will then convert it... Pro Pak will use either the aforementioned or bum as required. but the same applies.. if it's looking for a .bum you'll have to convert it in Poser first... Cheers

Wizzard, when I load A texture into the material editor,Poser wont't convert it to an bum file.Like I mentioned above,It use to ask if you wanted to convert it t a .bum, now it wont't.

dmartin, If you have ProPack, you don't need the bum files. If you use the ProPack mat pose, it will ask for the bump.jpg files instead of the bum files. they work better anyway. :-) Diane

Diane,It doesn't matter what figure or texture I use,It on,it won't convert to bum.Are you trying to say Pro pack doesn't need bum files no matter what.Does it read it as bump map anyway? How then do you make A bump file? I think I may be a little confused-probably because it is 3'o clock in the morning.I think it's time to go back to bed now. Thank,s for al your help, David

Pro Pack can read jpg or tif files for bump maps. It doesn't need bum files at all. These are the two files that you would use for bump maps in Pro Pack. dtg_dinaHeadBump.jpg dtg_dinabodyBump.jpg The Pro Pack mat pose should look for those.
