Subject: A sug-question

Just out of curiosity, which forum should I go to if I wanted to talk about the horrors of puppy-monkey-baby or talk about if the superbowl's 360 views on a few plays was worth the millions of dollars? Where should we go if I wanted to talk about if this game's visual effects were good or bad... or talk about bloom in general? Where can I go when I'd like to talk about if 48fps in movies is good but 3d in movies because china is bad? What if I wanted to talk about MtG's card art or complain about leinfield's comics? What if I wanted to talk to others to see if LOL updating the SR's art assets was good or bad?

Also while I'm thinking about it, what if people just wanted to shoot the breeze and get to know each other aside from art?

We tried having an off-topic miscellaneous type of forum, about three different times, but it didn't work out.

Didn't work out?

Ummm...

Let's not bring it's exercise routine into things 👿

It seems to me that people already use the Community Center for that purpose. With topics like Good Morning and Good Night and Finish The Lyrics, it's hard to deny that such topics are allowed there.

Or that's how it looks to a newcomer to the forums anyhow.

Wheatpenny, I keep hearing that but no one gives me a solid answer to why.

They don't wanna bother moderating it in case it gets out of control.

Well, at least "other sites do it too" excuse works in this case (unlike the "no off site linking one) Daz allows one or two threads dedicated to off-topic posting, and people are allowed to post about personal problems as well or announce deaths (which they are here as well, unless that changed recently) Beyond that, only talk about digital art in some way shape or form is allowed on DAZ. Too lazy to see if Hivewire or RDNA also have such a rule.

I personally would have no issue with a lounge forum to cover a broader range of topics outside the scope of the art world as I think there would be members that for various reasons might not have family support or close friends they can discuss things with or might like to keep their private life outside of the real world, not that throwing it up on a forum is the most private way to go about things. However members might wish to discuss things like movies, weekend trip, that darn electricity company just shafted me........ or I am thinking about buying a car it would all be good. Probably my only concern would be the legalities of what the members mention or if someone did raise a personal issue and was ridiculed for it or given wrong advice since at times we are all including me "Self Proclaimed Councillors" and that can and has had devastating consequences. We only need to look to facebook, a few other forums and even the comments on YouTube to see how things can turn ugly, but here at Rendo the TOS would obviously apply. I can see what Kalypso means and why we don't have one currently but I don't think it should be off the table for consideration either, if we went for a fourth try there would have to be some ground rules emphasized although I believe they are already in place or it could be a full time job for a moderator or two 24/7 and lots of coffee.

The reason it didn't work out, was that it was almost one continuous flame war. Moderating it was a full-time job in itself. (when I first came on staff, I was the coordinator for the last incarnation of that forum).

has anyone from the staff ever adressed the issue with the wishlists.i for example cannot access my wifes wishlist,i have to log into her account see what she wants copy the links of the items then log out from her account, log into my account add the stuff to my wishlist and then i can finally buy.i mean there are at least 3 unnecessary steps to get that far.before the big "revolution"on rr i was able to look at her profile go to store (which she has not)but i was able to access the wishlist at that point and see what she wanted.

Hi renecyberdoc,

We have brought back the public wishlist so if you want to see what's in your wife's wishlist, you would go to her profile and click on the "wishlist" button. This will show you all items she has in her wishlist.

Have a wonderful day,

I can attest to such threads on the HiveWire forums, in fact there's a subforum specifically set up for Condolences & Sympathies in the main Meadow forum. The Meadow forum is where most folks talk about personal items, such as upcoming oprations, a Birthday Thread to announce member's birthdays, and the like. Don't recall whether there are specific forums like that at RDNA.

Another thing I can attest to is, we rarely have flame wars at HiveWire, as it's a pretty "friendly" and helpful group, and we try our best to keep it that way. 😉

You can thank Lisa's moderation for that, because you do actually have flamewars, but she's quick to put them out with her moderation as she knows when the are coming, not letting them fester for hours or days. This needs to happen here more often.

Actually it's Alisa who's the main moderator at HW, as Lisa is busy with creating her products, and as one of the Community Volunteers I, and the other CVs, watch out for posts as well, but they don't pop up as often as forums such as this one.

Then again, we don't have as large a membership, or as "busy" a forum as the Renderosity forums, so it's a lot easier to keep track of what's going on, and to take action quickly.

Yes, but it's Lisa that puts a quick stop to the flamewars every time. And that's what keeps your forum peaceful.
