Subject: Remember Dalinise?

dalinise ( ) posted Sat, 13 February 2016 at 11:30 AM · edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 1:43 AM

Hi, my name is Dalinise, (maybe some of you will remember me :-) ) many years ago I had a store here. About 10 years ago I stopped working with Poser (I mostly worked with poser 4 and 5 and with V 3/4 and M3/4). But lately I have been wanting to get started again and I was wondering what poser version is most used these days and which figures? And if there would still be a little place for me here in the store with the kind of textures I made. I would like to start picking up poser again but don't know if you guys still would like my stuff. I would love to hear from you! You can see my gallery (in which I used my textures) here. Thank you, Dalinise.

Right now, the most popular versions of Poser seem to be 11 Pro and 2014 Pro. And looking at your gallery, your stuff is really good and I think there would definitely be a market for it.

I also go way back with Poser, and used it fairly regularly thru about version 7, then less with version 9. I recently upgraded to Poser Pro 2014 due to a good price offer from Smith Micro, some Poser models I have that don't work in Carrara, and a nice comic render (way better than the old Poser sketch render). So I am relearning it (slowly) with help from Mark Bremmer's nice tutorials. As you may have inferred, I prefer Carrara, which handles most Poser format content seamlessly (I have a collection of several thousand Poser format items), loading it directly from the Carrara browser (no "import"). I do short animations, and find that Carrara is much more capable of handling large scenes with many lights, etc. But still, the first thing I add to Carrara's browser when I put it on a new machine is the Poser 7 Runtime. 😎

I definitely remember you ;). Welcome back!!

You have a lot of catching up to do. Daz has split with Poser as far as figures go...DazStudio was probably already created when you left, but now has come into its own. If you look thru the Marketplace you'll see that the Daz figures are still popular, but have to be used in Poser by way of a plugin to Poser. With Poser users, the Daz Genesis 2 figures are popular, and with Daz Studio users, the Genesis 2 and 3 figures are popular (the Genesis 3's just came out the last 6 months or so and do not work in Poser at all). Totally different landscape than what you probably remember ;).

Welcome back! The figure that seems to be most popular judging by the Marketplace is Genesis 3/Victoria 7 which is DAZ Studio only. You might want to start from there since that program is free and most of the vendors have shifted to character and clothing creation exclusively for her. The Victoria 4 stuff is now few and far between but that might mean there's less competition too. But if you haven't already got Vicki4 I don't think now would be a good time to invest in her.

Another solution might be to contact Erogenesis about his upcoming figure Project E. He's said he's hoping for a summer release and that would give you time to catch up with Poser (if you're sticking with that). You can read more about her here and at RDNA

Don't forget there is also Dawn from Hivewire3D that does have a following though not the size of Genesis 3 but then that market is very crowded at the moment.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I remember you Dalinise! It doesn't seem that long ago. I am partial to PoserPro2014 with the game developer add-on. Game developer has a few neat items such as polygon reduction, but a drawback in that SM put in a "Check in with us every six months or deactivate" Kill switch. I think Game Developer was integrated with Poser Pro 11 and that by request you can get a code that doesn't require the cumbersome check-in process if your have a virus firewalled stand-alone machine not connected to the web for your expensive graphics business work. You do need to look into the split with DAZ though, as characters you wish to sell product for might determine which software you go with.

Can't help you with Poser versions, I haven't updated since PP 2014 & mainly use Studio now.

Lyne ( ) posted Thu, 18 February 2016 at 12:26 PM

hello! and welcome back! Poser Pro 2014 will have the easier learning curve... in my opinion, SM has gone off the deep end with Poser 11- you will have to get all NEW materials to use their new Superfly render engine... if you have a lot of content for poser already, I would highly recommend Poser 2014- which is the first true 64 bit version of poser. I'm enjoying it a lot, having upgraded from poser 9 (and having been in poser since it came to PC!).

There are more DAZ products at Rendo now, which is a bit frustrating for a dedicated poser user, but there are other products/stores that will have a more balanced line of both poser and DAZ... and yes, HiveWire has top of the line people and horses with more animals coming soon. (and a friendly warm community as well).

Good luck!

Welcome back, Dalinise! Of course I remember you from waaaay back 😃 Poser Pro 2014 is my go-to 3D program, with Reality 4.2.1 as my external rendering engine and am not likely to switch over to Studio anytime soon, although I'm excited about the recent news that there's an utility (free; can't beat THAT!) available now that enables Poser users to import the DAZ Genesis 3 figures. The downside is that right now, it's Windows only, but I pray there's a Mac version on the horizon.

Looking forward to seeing some new renders soon from you!
