Subject: New Freebie Preview: Eames Lounge

Hi, everyone. Spent the better part of the day today finishing off this model of a Eames Lounge Chair. I know there are quite a few of these available out there, but I went a few extra miles on this one and modeled in all of the cushion seams and button folds instead of baking that into maps. This was a special model that I created as a promise to a friend of mine on DA, fastbike1. Fastbike1 (aka Larry) was kind enough to give me a 12 month membership as a gift, and this was the least I could do to repay him, as well as the community.

I will offer this model for free only at my DA website, and here on Renderosity. The only thing left to do now is texture the model. The modeling was done in 3dsmax, and I'll unwrap it and texture it with 3dCoat. About 80k polys total (99% quads). I'll probably reduce this count before I unwrap. I believe there's room to get it down to maybe 50K. Hope you guys like it so far. Here's the wireframes and a clay render:

I'll post some textured shots before releasing the model in a day or so. Thanks!

Awesome technique on those wrinkles and creases, lux! That's gonna look great with a soft leather material.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

Thanks. I'm working on the PBR maps today. The wrinkles and such were done simply by selecting an edge or edge loop, then extruding it inward slightly. Once subdivided, this inward extrusion of edges looks softer, and very much like tension wrinkles caused by stretching the material.

About the extrude, you mean in 3dsmax, right? What about doing it with chamfering? I'd imagine the quad chamfer tool is perfect for that. It has a feature where you can push in or out on the edge after creating the chamfer. In Blender, you'd do this with Bevel I assume?

Yes, I'm referring to the technique used in 3dsmax. The quad chamfer tool is available in 2015/2016, and it will do a good job on this as well. In Blender, the bevel tool will work, although it does not always result in quads, so some minor editing will need to be done after the bevel in some cases.

Here's the fully textured model, rendered with PBR materials and texture maps in Corona render engine. I might tweak a few things, but this is a finished model now. The texture maps will be included with the model, and it should be available in the next 24 hours for download. Hope you like it.

Hi, everyone. This model has now been released here on Renderosity. The model includes the lounge chair and footrest ottoman as separate objects, both fully textured and UV Unwrapped. Both objects together consist of 56,137 polygons, and 56,682 vertices. High resolution PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texture maps are included with this set (4096x4096px), including a color, specular, gloss, and normal map for each material group. Standard bump maps are also included, but I highly recommend using the normal maps with your own customized materials for optimum render results. *The (Poser) OBJ files have been scaled to import perfectly in Daz|Studio 4.x., and should also import in an approximate location and size in Poser. See the included README.txt for detailed information on how to import the models in this set to the DAZ Studio software.

**Also included with this zip package is a bonus .BLEND file, with realistic Cycles materials and texture maps already applied to the model, with limited global illumination. The scene is "ready to render".

Please let me know if you have any questions, or issues with this product. I stand behind all of my models, even the free ones, with full tech support. Thanks!
