New Poser Users Help F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 01 3:36 am)
New to Poser? Ask questions here for expert help!
It is DSON, not Dyson. All DAZ content should be installed into DAZ3D My Library folder which should be located in a share folder. I don't understand what content you have installed in your "Dyson" folder, you didn't define. If it is Poser CF, than it is fine; but if it is DAZ CF and this is also installed into DAZ3D My Library then you just duplicated files.
The location of the installation of the content depends on the OS. There can be differences between OS X and Windows. In any case, the Studio default location is only a suggestion. Personally, for example, I don't use it. I keep all my DS content in a very structured directory, under ~/DSContent (~ symbolizes your home folder) path.
When it comes to using both Poser and DAZ Studio I advice to actually duplicate the content. For example, I have V4, and all connected accessories both under ~/DSContent and under ~/PSContent, where PSContent is the home for all Poser content. Trying to keep a single copy shared between applications is going to impose constraints to either one application or the other. If you organize the content to be optimal for DS then you will likely have sub-optimal organization in Poser and viceversa. The best option is to keep two separate repositories and organize them as it's best for each application.
Cheers.

:) I don't know why this confuses me so much.
I have Windows. I have a Runtime for Poser named 'PZRntm- all Poser goes here.
I'm going to create a Runtime also for all (?) DAZ named 'DS4.' So are you suggesting Paolo that I put all DAZ Studio files & Poser DSon files (even the Poser files) in here together and ignore the duplicates there will be?
The Poser DSON files should go in the Poser content. My suggestion, in general, is to keep Poser content and Studio content separate and, in case of products that work both in Poser and Studio, to duplicate them. Hard disk space is extra cheap and the savings in space are not worth, IMHO, the aggravation of trying to satisfy two very different programs. Content management is tough enough to without adding extra complications.
Cheers.

I'm rebuilding all my runtimes. Yay. I'm thinking of trying DAZ Studio 4 besides Poser 11.
When I get to creating the Dyson library- should I just make one DAZ Library, put the DS4 & Dyson all together in it, point Poser to it, where it will pickup the dyson portion of it, or make a totally separate Dyson one?
I'm trying to avoid all the duplication I used to have. I had the starter files in both a Dyson Library & in a DAZ3D My Library, which was fine for Poser- I just linked the Dyson Library. But in DAZ Studio, I got duplicates. So confused!
Thank you
