I always get an error when I try to update my Vue d'Esprit. (Windows 2000, IBM-PC 333, 224 MBs) Joerg

I have had no problem from 4.01 to 4.02 by unzipping it direct to Vue folder. There was an earlier post about the first download of 4.02 having installation problem, but then that was affecting those using Win98 only...I think. However, this was quickly rectified by e-on. Other than that, I am not sure what and guess can't be of much help now.

If you downloaded it when it was first released, there was a problem with the installer. As Bill said, that was fixed and replaced. Check to be sure you have the 4.02b as that is the most recent release and it corrects a problem that the 4.02 was giving with lights and shadows.

Hee x3! Varian, I did not even know there was a 4.02b...thought it "b" for beta....duh!

Y'know Bill, I am not sure why they chose to call it that, because it does sound like a beta version with the "b". I would've probably called it 4.022 or some silly thing like that. ;)

Btw Varian, you the lucky pick one to be asked...LOL! Ok, I just realize my "long grass" is missing in my vegetable garden. How do I just install this only vege I need from the vue 4 disk? The earlier bundle vege thingy does not surport Vue 4 format. Bill

Ooh, lucky me. :D Okay, when you say "missing", do you mean none of the files are present in the /Plants/ folder? Or do you mean the files are present but the plant isn't showing up in the browser within Vue?

I have not check the listing thru Explorer. What I have now is that the "long grass" is not in the picture with the rest. Wait....I go see :) Yes Varian, its in the listing but not 'icon' represented. This goes the same for both my Win98 and Win2K installation of Vue 4...errr..now 4.022 :)

Hm, so the files are present, but not displaying in the browser. The 4.01 update fixed the veggie problem like this that most folks were having, but apparently it didn't solve it for you. :/ The thing to do would be to try to "reinstall" Long Grass. Try copying all the related files from the CD to the /Plants/ folder, overwriting the ones currently there. LongGrass.mat LongGrass.prv LongGrass_a.prv Check to see if the plant is now showing in Vue. If it's not, use Explorer to go to the /Plants/ folder and delete the vegetation.prv file. Then open Vue and see if all the plants display. (A new vegetation.prv will be created by Vue.) And if that don't work...then it's time to write E-on. :)

Interesting Varian!....ther is no "Long Grass" from the plant folder of e-on Vue 4. Looks like it is a seperate purchase from the bundle. Anyway, I just did a copy over from my Vue 3.1 installation Plant/Long grass related files and noew its up. Thanks.

Oh I didn't know you still had a 3.1 installed. Copying from there is definitely the easiest way, and maybe even the best way. I'm glad it got working for you! :D I can't keep track anymore of which plants came with which version and which were separate purchases!

I had a complete nightmare trying to get a successful installation of Vue 4. Unfortunately the information on e-ons site stating that 4.01 patch is unnecessary prior to 4.0b patch is incorrect. Under w2k, I found that you need to install the 4.01 patch first, and then patch it with the 4.02b patch to stop getting errors. However...it still crashes and dies when I import a pz3 that has BUM files. High Res skin textures use BUM files... I just hope that they (E-On) get their act together soon. NOte also Vue 3.1 (complete version) cannot be installed with a COMPLETE version of vue 4. If one is an upgrade, I am sure the cohabitation would be acceptable. I have no upgrade, so I had no choice but to uninstall my previous copy of 3.1 I have to say this......I am NOT AMUSED by this entire install nightmare AT ALL. I only hope that this will all have been worth it in the end.

Beck, you don't have to uninstall Vue 3.1. Vue 4 does not install over Vue 3.1 as an "upgrade" in that sense. Vue 4 is a new installation and has a folder call "e-on.." by itself. I have both V3.1 and V4 both on my Win98 and Win2K. Btw, what is your expansion RAM size. Also to note that all 'Terminal Resident' programs are shut now, especially screen saver when installing Vue 4...IMHO, I find Vue 4 kind of 'petty'...LOL! Good luck! Bill

Bill..... Vue 3.1 was a full version, not an upgrade. Vue 4 was a full version also not an upgrade...it couldnt work together, so I HAD to uninstall 3.1. The conflicts were some kind of mfc/d? errors..it couldnt find the necessary files... I have NO programs running in the background when I run vue. No firewalls, no antiviral...nada. Believe it or not..I had to uninstall it and reinstall it 8 times for it to stay stable....and also had to reinstall poser over the top of my original install to get vue to recognise my poser.exe. The patches needed were 4.01 FIRST, and then 4.02b after that....without the 4.01....vue would generate massive errors and refuse to start. Now...the system it runs on is : Windows 2000 (dual boots with w98se) on a Intel 600e coppermine chip with 784mb SD pc133 ram. 32mb GeForce 2 card with open GL and it doesnt have any problems there. No screensavers, sounds, special effects...nothing except systray and vue 4....yet it crashes big time when I import a pz3 due to BUM difficulties. These aren't BUM files on the clothing either....the BUM files are on the skin textures themselves. I often use high res skin textures, so I am very very disappointed with this problem. Also...I bought the extra vegetation bundle when I had vue 3.1...... but it will not work with vue 4 cos the serials dont match.... remember I won a full version of Vue4, and the plants are registered to my previous version. So, they are part of the reasons I am not impressed at all, at this moment in time. I honestly hope that e-on will sort this whole thing out. I can understand everyones frustrations, especially hein's over the stability issues. I can honestly say that I did not have ANY stability issues under w2k with vue 3.1. I did have under my 98 partition, but that is why I went to the trouble of getting the dual boot....to dispense with that, and it worked beautifully. I can only hope that e-on will sort this nightmare out asap. If not, I can tell you all right now, I will uninstall vue 4 and go back to vue 3.1....without any hesitation. In all honesty....it will not take much more to make me do it either.

I also have both 3.1 and 4 installed and each one works fine. Odyssey, if you have 4.02 and not the 4.02b, be sure to grab up the 4.02b. The earlier release of the 4.02 created problems related to the OpenGL that the 4.02b doesn't. Beck, have you written E-on support with the details of your PZ3 import problems? They really are interested in everyone being able to enjoy the program working as it should.

Varian, as yet I haven't written to e-on regarding the pz3 or the plant problems. I was so excited to have received the copy to start with that, my first concern was to get an install.... I haven't gotten around to it. Sorry to whine so much, but the past two days have been nothing short of a major nightmare. I had not even contemplated any of this. I will however contact e-on very shortly.

Beck, this is what I will do. Uninstall both Vue version. Go to "C>" and edit the registry ("regedit")...in the HKey thingy, anything you see "e-on" or "Vue" in the "software folder"...delete them all. Not sure if I should recommend you this unless you been at it before..a thing they call "cleaning your registry" where you can actuall messed up things too....LOL! Anyway, if you know, go thru all the HKey/Software folder and do the same. Quit back to Window, shutdown and then reboot. Installed both Vue 3.1 and Vue 4, each on their own. Proceed with the necessary patch for Vue 4. Check at e-on site...not sure when, but there was a corrective patch file for the "Vegetation Bundle" to work in Vue 4. Hope I'm not helping you to messed up more. Good luck :) Bill
