What I mean by disappearing is that the thumbnail I made is gone, and has been replaced by the auto-generated thumb.
A screenshot wouldn't show you anything meaningful, and besides, I already fixed it.
I have to edit the image, uncheck "keep this thumb" (or whatever that says), browse my file, choose the thumb I made (again) and re-save the image.
If you go to my gallery:
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?uid=481818
you can see that all my thumbnails are a uniform size. I never use an auto-generated thumbnail.

Hmm Ok.. Since you said you have fixed it.. I'll keep an eye on your gallery for a bit and see if this happens. I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue. I do know some updating was done to the gallery today so maybe that issue has been fixed. :)

i can concur what Tara is experiencing, though i've not uploaded anything recently...
my experience, at least fairly recently, is that i upload an image with my own thumbnail that i made. roughly two days later i go to my gallery, and somehow my handmade thumbnail had disappeared, or had been replaced actually, by the full image, or what would appear had i opted for an auto-generated thumbnail. so to get back what i WANTED to show, i had to re-upload my own thumb again, but i had to do it twice before it stuck/took.
another issue is that if i simply edit words that i've put under an image [ONLY words, or maybe this happens simply because of the edit mode itself], even though i keep the 'keep this thumb' option ticked, after editing, i get the auto-gen thumb instead [i've left an image in my gallery in this particular stated for comparison, as i too, use/prefer uniform thumbnails throughout my gallery].
i've also noticed, in the 'what's new' gallery, images that i've previously looked at and know what the thumbnail should look like, suddenly seem to appear to have an auto-gen thumb instead, which has made it difficult to quickly re-identify an image i may want to revisit because the thumbnail no longer appears as what it was, or how i remembered it/what i'm looking for in recall.
Hey everyone! So, the programmers just informed me the gallery should be looking better. Please let me know if you see anymore concrete issues. I'd greatly appreciate it and thanks so much!

Okay, go look at my gallery page today. I won't touch it until you've looked. Of the 24 images on my front page, only THREE of them still have the thumbnails I made. That means TWENTY-ONE of my thumbnails have been replaced by auto-generated thumbs since yesterday.
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?uid=481818&page_number=3
If you can't figure out what the problem is, go to page two of my gallery for a comparison. At least right now, page two still looks the way I left it.

From Webster's:
Simple Definition of disappear: : to stop being visible : to pass out of sight : to stop existing : to die or go away completely : to become lost : to go to a place that is not known
I have also posted about this problem in another thread. Got the usual "I'll look into it" response. Nothing since.
Is it REALLY that difficult to figure out what we're having issues with? This is something that has been brought up multiple times, by multiple members.
Doing ANY editing at all to a gallery post will pretty much entail re-uploading EVERYTHING, because your new 'revolutionary' system erases the thumbnail you've created and replaces it with an auto-generated thumbnail version of the entire image. It does this regardless of whether or not the "Use Existing Thumbnail" tick-box is checked. Then you have to go back in and re-enter ALL the Vendor Credits, because those have all been erased. I really don't know how to explain it more clearly.
I do know a LOT of members are becoming increasingly frustrated with all the issues that are still unresolved.

I just checked my galley. Here is a list of the ones where your wonderful, revolutionary system decided to use the whole image instead of the thumbnail I created:

These are all visible on the first page of my gallery:

EVERY SINGLE ONE of these images HAD a thumbnail! THIS is what we mean by "disappearing" thumbnails.
Like Tara, I create thumbs for ALL my uploads. I do it for two reasons:
1: Uniformity
2: I like to use the thumbs as a "teaser" for the full images.
This was NEVER a problem before that half-baked "Revolution" you inflicted on us. You repeatedly tell us how much you 'appreciate' every single one of us, and yet when these issues are brought to your attention, it's like talking into a vacuum. We get a canned response about passing it along to the programmers, or that it will be 'looked into' then silence.. And no change. Could you at least give us an update once in a while? If you're not going to fix the issue, at least just say so.

Hey folks- you weren't being ignored. It's looking like a bigger issue than they thought and so, they're working on it now. When I know more, I will let you know. But, for right now, unfortunately, I don't have any more information. I'm really sorry.

Hey @auntietk- Can you let me know if you're still having issues with this? Please and thank you so much!

Hey @everyone- In terms of these missing thumbnails, the programmers told me that they fixed it. However, due to a bug, all the thumbnails from before are unfortunately GONE. BUT, when you upload a new one, you're good to go and if you go ahead and edit your old image, you can re-upload the original thumbnail.
Please let us know if you have anymore questions!

Hmmm I decided to reupload the Thumbs I had for all of my gallery images just to get the Information:"Sorry! You do not have the permission to edit this image." It seems like I do not even have any rights to change information on my own posts!!! Please fix that! It's not spreading very much confidence to upload anything, if I can't change it afterwards and get the rights on my own posts revoked!!!!!!

Not sure what's going on with that. I went in and tried a test thumbnail upload on your first image and it worked for me. (love the cat with the paintbrush). But, that doesn't mean the bug isn't still hiding. I'll go ahead and pass this up the chain for someone to look at. If you have a screen-shot of the error message, that would help. We'll get to the bottom of it, no worries.
EDIT: okay, I sent it forward to be looked at.

Well I'm not surprised, that an Administrator can do this. Usually they have elevated rights - and for what ever reason this seems to be a rights problem...
OK, here is what I do:
and then: Dang I get that error and a blank page to upload something new...
So that's what 's happening!
Yeah, exactly my thought too. I have elevated rights so my test upload wouldn't be conclusive. (though admin is a bunch of levels above me. I'm more or less the equivalent of an art museum docent pointing people to the restrooms and gift shop) Anyway, it's been sent forward and I'm adding the screen shots.

Thanks for the screenshots, @FurNose. That always helps.
Do you mind sending me the thumbnail you're trying to upload via e-mail? hopeandlove@renderosity.com
Thank you,

Hmmmm... It's now almost a month, since I raised the problem and nothing happened since then. I still cannot change my gallery and that's pretty annoying! It looks like RodS was right with his statement:

Seems like it all is forgotten now and nothing will ever change. If they are really working on it, then it would be fine to get a status every now and then :-(
Hello @furnose! I didn't forget about you! I told you that once I heard anything, I'd let you know. Unfortunately, I was told they're still working on it. So sorry for the delay. I'll let you know as soon as I hear more.

Sigh! Over four months since I raised the Problem, that I cannot edit the thumbnails in my gallery any more!!! I suspect, nobody ever was looking into this problem really. Raising a problem concerning flaws in the Software, this site is running on is really calling in a big void. Nothing ever happens and my post of April 9th is more true than ever - no matter if the Admins of this site deny it or not. The facts are clearly visible. Renderosity does not care about flaws in their software and actually even though Hopeandlove promised me that "they (who ever "they" is) are still working on it" it turns out, that nobody is "they" and nobody ever worked on it. I mean, come on, it's a rights problem, so mostly these don't need very much digging in to the code of the software at all, but as I said nobody ever took care of this problem.....
Hello,
Hope is no longer with us and so I am sorry that this has been causing an issue for you for so long.
I have talked to the programmer and he looked into it and does not see a reason for you to be having these issues.
Please log out and log back in and then try again.
Please let me know what happens and provide me with a screenshot so I can take it back to the programmer.
Thank you so much and I apologize again...

Hello Kristi
Thanks for replying! Now that explains quite a lot. It's the same everywhere (even in the company I work for). Somebody leaves, and some of the projects, information and knowledge get's lost. Well I'm glad you took over the case, because it's really annoying, that I can't change the Thumbnail anymore. it is the same as described above even after logging out and loging in again. By the way, it's the same with new images i upload. I can set the thumbnail once, and after it is uploaded, I do not have the rights to change it. Interestingly, I can change the picture it self (I tested it by changing an already uploaded image with one I added my signature in the lower right corner and it worked). I can change the description as well, it's just that darn Thumbnail, I can't change. So I have to be extra, extra carefully when uploading a picture, because once I took the wrong thumbnail, it's settled and I can't change it anymore. Interestingly Wolfenshire could do so and he admitted, that he has elevated rights. So I think it all breaks down to some rights problems for my account (or even all the other "normal Users"). So I suggest your programmer investigates in that directions. I didn't provide you a screenshot, because it happens exactly the same as what happened before, so you can take the previous screenshots to the programmer. ;-)
Thanks again for your reply and please, pretty please, don't let me hang another few weeks/months before giving me a status feedback for this case. There's nothing worse than getting the feeling that nobody ever cares for the bugs you report.
Thanks a lot.
Dear Kristi As I wrote in my previous post: It makes no sense i do the same Screenshots again. Since this case is open for quite a while everything can be found a few posts earlier. Please have a look at my post @4261224 and the following ones. This describes exactly (with Screenshots) what problem I have (still have - since it behaves exactly the same as in the mentioned posts). I hope this helps. If you really need it in email-form I can copy paste the screenshots from the mentioned posts into an email, but there is nothing different than what I posted in the forum.
Thanks
Okay, I really wanted the screenshots in email so I can send it right to the programmer so he can see first hand however I can just screenshot the forum posts and send it...no worries, I promise we will get this all sorted out.
Thank you again...

Okay, the programmer asked if you could please visit the following and try to do it again as he set something up that will log the information which will give him more details as to what exactly is going on.
Please go HERE

Just to let you know we have talked about this in the meeting this morning.
The programmer was on a project last week and it was a pretty big undertaking however he stated he will be reviewing the information and trying to fix it.
Thank you for your patience.

Hello again,
So it seems as though some of the problem was the thumb you were trying to upload was either too small or too big however the system should have gave you a valid error message rather than telling you you did not have permission.
The programmer has now fixed this so from this point on, if you are not able to upload or edit your thumbnail, the system should tell you what's wrong.
Thank you so much for your patience and have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Kristi
Thanks for this Information and thanks for all your effort you put in to solve this problem! Actually yes! All my previous older Thumbnails where 200x200, the newer ones where somewhat around 300x... but as I said "somewhat". So one I tried to upload was 301x...! I thought that it should work, because I interpreted the Info about the Thumbs, that they have to be 300 and up (and that the gallery is scaling them down if needed (as it does with the auto generated thumbs. I didn't think, that it has to be exactly 300 wide... Funny, that both "Wolfenshire" and "Hope" could upload my thumbs. So since they have elevated right's and since I got a "no permission" error, I thought that this is the issue. But probably they scaled the thumb before uploading, and so they where able to upload it... Any how it works now and that's important
Thanks again (please feel hugged)
Cheers
You are so very welcome
I am so happy you will actually get the correct message if this happens again in the future.
Yeah, it is worded kinds confusing and it is on my list for the programmer.
Have a wonderful weekend and LOTS of hugs back

I always make a separate thumbnail for every image. When I upload, I load the thumb and the image, and check to make sure the thumb is showing up on the gallery page. Most of the time the thumbnail shows up, but at some point during the next day or so it disappears, and I have to reload it. This has happened eight times in my last 15 posts.
Can this please be fixed?
