Hi all...

Please post errors, and potential bugs in this thread, so we can try to have them all in one place, and bug hunters can see if they can reproduce the errors for bug reporting. This will help out both users, and Gérald in the long run.

Please add screenshots, and explain what you were doing, or ops performed that led to errors. The more details you can remember the better.

Getting this error; an Access Violation, but my french is very basic. :) Although this seems pretty easy to understand.

I was trying to close VWD. Incidentally it's via the Daz plugin that I'm betaing, so not sure if related to that, but doubt it.

Hi Writers_Block,

I have encountered that error a few times, and were based on different operations and settings variables. Please, try to document what you were doing that led to that error including any variables you can think of. I am beta-ing alongside you, so I will try to see if the bridge is a catalyst when closing. Did you notice if VWD is still open as a process (Task Manager), or still loaded in memory, even though it shows as closed? I get these hangs once in a while as well.

I created a new thread where we all can discuss errors, and try to help out others.

3DFineries, would you, please, transfer Writers_Block's post to that thread (and possibly this one). Thank you.

It is possible to drag parts while holding down the shift key.

I've noticed that when doing this with the simulation running, that the simulation stops; I have to stop the simulation and then restart it for the simulation to continue.

Is the shift key meant to stop the simulation upon releasing it?

Yes, that I realise; it seems to stop the simulation (the release of the shift) when it is already running.

Ah yes, as Shift is released it stops that's right.

As long as one holds Shift down it simulates.

If you release Shift it stops, if you press Shift again the deformation sim starts again.

Now this looks like a bug; but not sure if VWD or the Daz bridge. I loaded VWD, but I'd forgotton to duplicate the hair as a backup in case something went wrong.

So I duplicated it before I added the hair in VWD.

When I added the hair in VWD, it continually processed the hair; I had to close VWD and Daz Studio.

Got this after closing VWD; I'd been posing a dress; it didn't crash Daz though, like when I've had it crash with hair.

Building internal node lists takes surprisingly a long time in studio, so I cached it to save time. I don't know, I'll have a look if I can protect the cache or connect a signal so I can clear the cache in such case.

I have just bought this fine plugin and am using it in Carrara without problems. But, in Poser 10 I cannot. Each time I run the plugin it loads the items fine, runs the simulation fine, but then when I hit the send animation to host button it immediately closes the scene and opens a new blank one. I then find two files in the VWD exchange folder. Both of them are named New Scene.pzz. One is only 2 bytes long and invalid. The other is the scene I just had up with the simulation running. The new VWD object file is now in the scene but there is no simulation data. This happens every time I run a sim in Poser. Is there a setting I need to change for this? The plugin performs w/o problems in Carrara.

@primeuser : I understand your problem. It is my fault. In Poser, you have to work with uncompressed files (PZ3 files and not PZZ files). I wanted to give this information in the documentation, but I think I've ever said it. Excuse me for this error.

I figured it out and it wasn't your fault but mine. I installed python 2.7 into my system and removed the older version. I did not go into the poser preferences and update the python setting. When I clicked the python button in poser and pointed it to the new install of python it is now working.

But, I also will not use the .pzz format, thanks.

Does the program work along side of Poser's built in soft body dynamics? I tried a sim with cloth and hair and things worked. I then tried adding some softbody movement to the character and then do a sim and I keep getting this pop up error, which I can't read - "Lecture au-dela' de la fin de fichier." I don't know what this means and it wasn't clear when I tried a translation. So, will the two co-exist with each other and is there any special way to do so?

@primeuser : The error message means that you try to read beyond the end of the file. I don't understand precisely your workflow. Could you detail your actions. I think you modify a cache file but I don't understand how you can do so.

When simulating hair, if there are other objects in the scene, such as clothes that have been VWDed, the simulated item (hair) will try to pose but then dissappear out of the scene.

Set up an animation; let it run.

Reset the animation.

(maybe change the paramerters)

Then use the Shift key.

VWD crashes; or gives an error message. I seem to recall posting it for something else. I can grab one if required though.

The error message can't usually be got rid of; holding down escape just cancels the current window error - another pops up. Usually have to kill VWD with the Task Manager.

Not sure if this is a bug.

Run an animation until it completes.

Press escape to stop it looping.

Use the shift key on each frame (that is required) to fine tune the pose.

At this stage the simulation runs fast.

Whilst the shift key is pressed, adjust the position of something.

Now the simulation runs very (very) slowly.

Holding the shift key is not the problem, but adjusting the position of the verts.

Adjusting the position with the mouse affects the speed of all frames, not just the current one. So if don't tweak all before manually moving the dynamic simulations can become incredibly slow.

Using the Carrara bridge. am getting an - obj does not exist error - when hitting the cloth button from the list of host objects. Just to make sure, I exported the cloth object as an obj and did a fresh start in Carrara. Loaded my figure and then imported the cloth object as an obj to the scene. Used VWD to list the host objects. The figure and the cloth prop both appear in the list. Select and load the figure from the host list as the collision object. Works fine so far. Select the cloth object from the hostlist and click the cloth button. VWD takes some time to process then returns an error saying that the cloth object's obj does not exist even though it was selected from the host list. vwd cant find cloth obj despite in host list.JPG

diomede: This might be better answered by philemot in the the thread "Carrara bridge to VWD questions". He set it up to address any issues regarding the Carrara Bridge.

I don't use the Carrara version, but I experience this on a regular basis with the DS Bridge. However, I believe it might be environmental, and not the software, because this only happens on my Windows XP laptop, but never on my W7 PC box.

For me, it is related to button clicking. If I simply left-click on the VWD buttons (collision, cloth, etc.) it will start to process (as in your scenario), but fails to create the OBJ, and I receive same error message. The work-around I have found to work is to left-click and hold button for a solid second, and then release. This seems to allow the OBJ creation function to finish, and everything works fine from there.

This hasn't been a repeatable bug on other systems, so you might be the second to encounter this (as far as I know). Please, try the slow-click method, and see if the process finishes without error.

This, of course, is just conjecture, because although similar, there are differences between the two bridges, and only philemot can really give you a proper diagnosis of the issue based on your variables.

It happens when the there is an extra collision item in the scene. This time it was an item that had been VWDed, but I've had it happen with others - last time I saw it was with hair, and that was a static simulation. This was dynamic.

The image shows a bikini bottom that had behaved normally, I think until the simulation had run, then it vanished at the end. It might have been before, I just noticed it gone; it did start off working. As you can see, it doesn't look much like a bikini now. Took a while to zoom out and find.

Since installing the new releast of VWD, I'm getting the following error; I tried it once and it worked, but since rebooting comp it doesn't. I've not changed anything in VWD or the bridge folders since installing. I installed on a different machine and I get the same, although I'm using the same Daz library. Sometimes I get the error on the right as well as the left, which is why I posted here as well as in VWD bridge.

re the above; reinstalling windows from a disk image solved it. So no clue what got corrupted.

On the new Version of VWD, I've notieced that for hair, self-collision is selected by default, although it is still greyed out.


New issue, anyone been able to simulate clothes, but not hair?

OK edit has timed out.

Reverting to the old version of VWD, allows me to simulate hair. I kept he new version of the .dll that came with the new version though.

Just to report that I get the same error as Writers_Block when trying to simulate. My steps are:

Genesis 3 Figure > Collision Object, default settings

(Hair choice) > Hair > Use Vertices Neighborhood, checked, distance 0.5, Softness 0.1, Distance min 0.30, and then apply parameters and generate.

Hair parameters: Genesis 3 Preset selected, Computer head vertices, show hair vertices, generate springs and finish.

Simulation: Inertia checked, everything else at default. Start static sim is followed by the Violation d'accés a l'adresse error message, exact same as Writers_Block. I am using the newest version of VWD as well, 64 bit on Windows 7!

For the persons who work on Daz Studio and Poser, Have you the same problem on Poser. (With G3F and a hair, as G3F can be used on Poser now).

Only hair and not clothes; I get the same error on G2F. I don't use Poser. I don't have inertia checked as far as I recall; I'll retest and post.

Unfortunately, reset all parameters made no difference. I have tried many varied settings but it seems regardless of the figure, hair, or settings used, that it simply does not want to work with hair!

Good question! My path to VWD IS:

C/Virtualworlddynamics/VWD

I've tried deleting the folder and copying a fresh version of VWD, but do you think I'd be better trying another location/folder to see if that helps?

Hi! Just to report that I tried out my own suggestion, and deleting the VWD folder and creating it under a new name worked! I deleted the folder, created a new one called 'Dazdynamics', pasted VWD in, and now simulating hair is working!

I had this problem. I have resolved it by pressing two buttons in the Utilities Tab:

  • the "Reset default parameters" button
  • the "Delete all exchange files" button. Pressing these buttons seems to resolve the problem.

I have to make tests and find the exact problem. Having a short path for VWD seems also to give best results. Personally, I use "C:VWD". These solutions are not definitive ones but they allow to resolve the problem.

Please, tell me if this corrects the error.

Ok clicking the resets as Gerard stated seems to have fixed it.

the "Reset default parameters" button
the "Delete all exchange files" button. Pressing these buttons seems to resolve the problem.

As my folder was already C:VWD, I left it until after trying the reset/delete; it works so not changed it.

I notice that when importing hair, the greyed out self-collision is no longer checked. When I was getting the error with hair, it was checked.

In p11, lately I have been getting a traceback...line 17...module error. I cant do a screen shot because it disappears quickly after I shut down poser. In VWD, cloth or hair, default parameters, after I click start dynamic simulation, it freezes. I end the program. When I shut down Poser is when I see the error. Just started to see this more after the latest updates.

@NolosQuinn : Is the program made this error every time or it's only for a few objects? In any case, could you tell me the name of the objects with which you have these problems. Your error seems to be a Python error, but there is no communication between VWD and Poser when you press on the "Dynamic simulation" button. Could you tell me exactly the precise time where this module error appears.

@VWD Looked at memory usage, said I had 28 threads going for VWD. Reduced it to 2 threads, still had freeze issuse. Unchecked Use Multithread and that seems to have been a memory issue. So far works 8 of 8 times without any problems. Sent to Poser, now rendering animation. Yeah!!
