Subject: Sketch Render in Poser

I have been trying out the Sketch Render feature in Poser. I have a problem with a black line that runs down the right side of image and the sketch seems to turn lighter too. I have tried this on both Poser Pro 2014 and Poser 11 and both do the same things. I have tried different images and get that same result. Is anyone familiar with the Sketch Render and can tell me why it does this? I have attached a couple images to show what it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! sketchbg_SM.jpg zep_Sm.jpg

I'm not getting that when I use the Sketch Render. Does it do this on every single sketch? Have you tried resetting back to defaults? I used the same dimensions and format as you did. Below is what I got.

I suspect it is a lighting -related issue. Poser will do calculations, but when it's too close to some value of lighting, it just makes a cut between a darker and a brighter area, and if there're outlines involved, you get a line.

That is a curious oddity. I can only guess that the camera or lighting settings may be at fault and the sketch render is reading a "too close" edge feature. This is a wild guess mind you.

HI guys..thanks for the replies. I have tried different lights and get the same thing so I don't have a clue. I will keep trying with different light situations and see if that is the culprit. Thanks so much for trying to help!

Here is a variation of my first post. Perhaps there is a camera or light "object" that would normally not render that is partly in the scene but in Sketch mode does ... like the odd render that transparencies and strandbased hair has. Just throwing ideas at you to try.

You are right Boni, that could very well be it..I am trying different lighting options but I should also look at the camera..It make be showing up ..perhaps I could make it invisible. Thanks so much! 👍

Well I did see I had my Main Camera visible so thought that may be the culprit. So I made it invisible and deleted all my lights and added just 1 spot light and pulled it back so my whole figure would have light. I this time randomly chose the WoodCut_DA setting for sketch and this is what I got..it cut off that same side completely. "Scratches Head"...what a mystery!Render 2.jpg

Just curious as we spray to all fields.

In your render dimensions, Are you using match the preview window or to exact specifications? Is there a difference when you do?

Does this only happen with a sketch render? Did you already try rendering the same scenes with FF/SF?

Could you do a little experiment for me? take the top cam and look over the scene, make all lights and cameras visible ... and see if you need to move one out of the camera rang of the main camera (or what camera you are using).

Hi Guys,

@Quiotrob, I am using :Render to exact resolution ( i need specific size and resolution) I have not tried using another setting but will do to see what happens! Thank you for suggesting this! :)

@Isaoshi, Yes it only happens in sketch. I did regular render in FireFly and it turned out nice. I am wanting to put the sketch on top of the regular scene and try different blends in Photoshop. Thank you for posting..this has been a delima! :)

@ Boni, OK! Will give this a shot to see what happens!

Thank you guys for reaching out and trying to help..tis such an oddity! :)

@Boni, I did the top camera view making all cameras and lights visible. I saw nothing that would be obstructing the view. I made all cameras and lights invisible again and tried the woodcut sketch. Still same result. Next going to try changing the dimensions as Quietrob suggested.

OK, I changed the resolution to "fit in preview window". No Line and it rendered the whole scene as should..however..I need the resolution to be high quality as in the original render with the line down it. I am posting both so you can see the difference. At this point, I am ready to give up on it and move on..I do not have a clue why I am getting that line down the right. There is nothing in the scene that should cause this. I realize the problem is in the chair and not in the Program hehehe..but obviously it is over my head! 😅

in another thread here was a discussion about memory and using a separate process for rendering (edit menu, general preferences, render tab) make sure this is checked and try another render. Who knows?

OP, did you make these models yourself? If so what program did you use?

Is the preview window the same ratio as the final render size? I ask because as it works at the preview screen size, try setting the preview to the same ratio as the finished size you want. Then try and render it at the required size.
