Subject: .max to .obj

foreverael ( ) posted Wed, 31 August 2016 at 5:44 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 3:40 PM

Would anyone be able to help me out convert a .max file to .obj?

It is a 3d turntable

Thanks

Depends. Some MAX file are a image which is recreated in the software and you would need to have it open in MAX and export it from there. Early 3ds files you might be in with a chance.

I don't have the software at hand, would you be able to give it a try? Please

If it is a .MAX then probably not because that is why they introduced the format in the first place a old 3ds file would not be so hard to convert although they can be hit and miss. Is it a freebie?

I don't have Max installed at the moment or I'd do it, but if you go to the 3dsMax forum here at Rendo, in the header is a link to download a free demo of 3dsMax. Once you have that installed, load the .max file and export it as an .obj.

Meshlab won't convert it. the only thing that can use a Max file is Max... it's not just a model, but the whole model's Max info.. modifier stack etc. so you need Max to collapse that to make the final mesh you can export.

Heads up: The Max free trial, if you read the privacy part of the license/terms, in order to DL it, you have to fill out the form that includes personal info. If you read their privacy statement (and also note some of the talk on the free trial registration page) One of the terms and conditions of DLing the free trial is that Autodesk gets permission to send you spam and telemarketing, and the free trial version of Autodesk also comes with telemetry (they track how you use the program and crap, a lot like Windows 10.)
Unless, that is, this has changed since I went to DL the free trial 2 years ago (once I read about the advertisements, I was like "aw, hell naw!") Also note (again, unless they since changed it) that they do not specify whether or not clear on whether or not the advertising ends after your free trial is over.

Note: my last sentence should have read like this:

Also note (again, unless they since changed it) that they do not specify whether or not the email spam/telemarket advertising ends after your free trial is over.
