Subject: Vendor question about daz files

When using the iray presets in DS4.9 on a model I have created, as long as my textures are my own can I redistribute the saved file in a product I am working on? Example: load my surface textures and values, then select say wax preset ignore removing maps. When I save a the shader/texture is it redistributable?

Use the presets as a base for your own creation, sometimes (aolmost all the time) you need to adjust some settings to better work with your textures, so you can save a Material preset in the end, its the best pratice

Distributing the shader base directly would be a violation of copyright even if it is included free with DS. You can save & distribute as a material preset which would require the end user to have the Shader base installed for the preset to work correctly. The below quote relates to the AoA SSS shader base, but also translates directly to the later iray base shaders.

I don't know if it has been said here, but if you set up the materials using AoA SSS or any other shader and then save a Material(s) Preset, the Material(s) Preset will apply the shader. If the user doesn't have the actual Shader installed then like Richard said they will get a message saying they don't have the shader. Since AoA SSS is included with DS 4.6 almost everyone who would use a .duf file will have the shader installed.

Long story short if you are using the AoA SSS to setup your surfaces just save a Material(s) Preset and distribute that. Keep in mind the associated textures will need to be distributed as well. I'm assuming you own distribution rights to the textures.
