if you have it, try loading BBs envirosphere and put an image on it and then render the glass again. You can turn off "Visible in Camera" if you don't want to see it in the background, but it will still reflect onto the glass. A screenie of the material room wouldn't hurt either ;). I'm assuming you're talking Firefly. If Superfly, I can't help you but maybe someone else can. :)

Still don't see how but I'm giving it a go. Anyhow, this is the Material for BB's glass.

Hmmm... used BB's Envirosphere and got the same as before. Maybe I should boost the Ambient.
Nope still looks dark.

Gettin roundly hacked off with this. I have no idea what to do and everything looks a load of testicular material.

Here's another glass that BB posted. I use it when the one you're using doesn't work. Sometimes It's not anything you've done, but the object itself.
Available on Amazon for the Kindle E-Reader Monster of the North and The Shimmering Mage

I use Poser 13 and win 10
Definitely an improvement, although the inside of the glass, where it shows above the rim, appears black.

Erm, I forgot to set transparency. And silly bugger that I am, me bounces were set to 2. Oh dearie me, sorry guys. Let me try again and report back.

Right... the shader RedPhantom posted still renders the same with 4 bounces and transparency.

BB's original shader works just dandy with 4 bounces. I am a complete and utter fuckwit.
Had a meeting with my son's teacher earlier this week. She tells me he has all the signs of "highly gifted to genius" and all the necessary skills and attitude to see him right through his education. Obviously not from his dad.

Thanks, all. Your patience with my stupidity is much appreciated.

Hahaha....if you think I've never forgot the reflection bounces and scratched my head and fiddled with a shader for an hour before it hit me, you'd be wrong. LOL

I'll blame it on me recent pneumonia, which is still kicking my ass.

Nowt special, just a test for some bottles I'm making.

I have written this before but I'm sure it's lost in the mists of time so here it is again.
You need at least six bounces to make a bottle with thickness show all the important features you expect, and not reach a black nothingness.
For most people there is NO reason to EVER set the bounces lower than six. FireFly (unlike SuperFly) doesn't use bounces unless it needs to, so using a lower, inferior setting doesn't do you any good, but using a higher, superior setting does, especially when you go a couple years and can't remember rule 1.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Also, have you not read my sig? I may not be aware of replies if you post them here. If you post them at the SM site I always see them.

And in case anybody deigns to suggest I turn on the reply notification checkbox, FFS it's always checked and I'm not getting reply notifications but I ALWAYS get notifications of other kinds, so it's not my email, either. For example, it was an email that let me know Sam created this thread, and I came to look because I respect Sam.

Thanks, BB. I have it sorted now. :D I now have bounces set to 6 as my default.
I'm sure you have posted about this in the past but I lost a lot of stuff when I changed computers. Many of my saved bookmarks didn't import and several forum changes didn't seem to help, either. Still, ta very much for the reminder. It's now committed to memory (or at least, what passes for memory round here).

No, forum changes do not help. As I warned, I did not get a notification that you responded.
That's an invitation to stop responding to me here. I won't keep polling the thread by hand. I don't have time.

Try as I may, I cannot get glass to look right. I'm really getting annoyed because even BB's beer glass shader looks wrong to me.
I made a simple empty glass, UV mapped and imported to Poser, applied the shader but when rendered, the glass looks really dark. I'm using Poser Pro 2012, IDL and a single infinite to mimic the sun. There's a ground plane and a sky dome, so there's something for the shader to react to.
Just to show what I mean, here's a render.
