Welcome to the Poser Forums! Need help with these versions, advice on upgrading? Etc...you've arrived at the right place!
Looking for Poser Tutorials? Find those HERE
you can use HDRI in P11.
Either with an environment dome or directly in the background node.
See https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/192/using-the-background-for-lighting for details
Hi there
As Wim said,in Poser 11 or in earlier versions you can use HDRi,like with BB EnvSphere or in new Poser 11 you can try and use EZDome which is awesome plugin from Snarly Here is link https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/798/ezdome-a-new-skydome-environment-sphere-from-snarlygribbly/54
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
Trying to find link to download after reading. (interesting). I scroll up/down. I am a HDRi, pano guy for CGI. Took years to master the lighting on these. Then coming back to Poser (11). Finding out Poser still using these IBLs I am not to fond of. Even though their is info that they are as well HDRis.
Hi there
You still need to use one or more extra lights in Poser as in other renderers if you do interior renders, for exterior renders you should be OK with using EZDome etc,but still I prefer to have extra lights
IBL yes they're used mostly in Firefly, but not in same extent than in previous versions,Poser now using SuperFly which is same or similar to Blender Cycles,I've done all my renders in Poser,I use other SW like 3DS Max or C4D for few projects
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
This GTO was done in Carrara 8 (not 8.5). Not my best, found errors, and in the process of redoing. Yes, I had to add a light. The HDRI done most of the lighting, and does give shadows. But only straight down, that I had to add a light for the shadow only on shadow catcher plug in. Can see reflection on car of the pano HDRi, and that is used as background scene. Now in poser 11, that Firefly kicks butt now, that my PC is very powerful (awesome character renders), that this superfly crashes my PC. And the images end up black, (nothing).

Hi there
Looks very good and I personally like it a lot Regarding the SuperFly is crashing, please check the log there,if there is error, are you using GPU or CPU for rendering ? Here is quick render, took me 13 minutes on the GPU,its still just quick render,I don't do lots of car renders, usually characters and mostly interior renders etc
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
Hi there
Here are my render settings
HDRi I was used Helipad Afternoon from this sIBL
http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
If Poser 11 is crashing, please turn off Branched Path tracing if you do render with GPU
Still is not the best render, this car is pretty low poly and on this car I think I would benefit from subdivision
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
I am using a EVGA Geforce GTX 970 FTW, on a AMD FX2+ MB (PCI express 3.0 slot). A8-6600K (4 core CPU). And I would think I would get a kick ass system. I can never win trying to get a fast comp to perform on these CGI programs (Blender, Carrara, now Poser). Like this board can not handle this Nvidia cards. I like Nvidia due to the CUDA cores. Ati/AMD has these Steam processors and looking into a RX480. But, now I have to get a Intel board, intel CPUs are very expensive. Although in the next year the Zen is coming out.

Hi there
If you have GTX970 then you should be able render anything what you want, just check log and I would install GPU-Z which would tell you how much or if its GPU used Do you have latest drivers installed there for NVIDIA and are you using Windows 7 or Windows 10?
My PC is ASRock X99 Extreme6,i7-5820k OC 4.5GHz,96GB DDR4 and those two GPU(GTX1080 and Titan X),PC is used mostly for rendering like in Poser or in other SW like is 3DS MAX or Blender
Here is it how it looks in my PC
I would say you have there maybe there some sort of conflict there, please check Event Viewer and if its possible try my settings, try render with lower bucket size like 128 or 256,but still think this can be simple as driver issue
I like AMD GPU,but most of the renderers still using CUDA and OpenCL renderers are few,but I've used for while AMD FireRender or ProRender in 3DS MAX which is awesome renderer and is free and should be coming soon to Blender too and yes agree Intel boards and CPU are very expensive there and all depends on budget there
If ZEN will be here,I'm thinking to switch too, from leaked benches should be good one and hopefully will deliver nice increase in performance against older generation
Hope this helps

OOps...not Fx2+. FM2+, and I struggled a few years on heating issues on the CPU. All that air cooling fans I went through, then 2 water coolings (corsair GTX..what ever junk), that didn't fit socket. I knew the temps were not right, always when rendering would go up to 50 C + (Idle at 35). Wasn't right, and I knew they were wrong. I constant played with fan cooler seating (mounting), thermal paste, cleaning fans when they were cleaned. So purchased a Deepcool Captain 240 (water cooling "AIO). My temps now are at 25 C (Idle), and max at 40 C. Quiet as well. I do use GPU-Z (have it installed), and latest drivers.
Hi there
I've went through two AIO or water coolers, one Corsair H100i v2 failed and then second EVGA Hybrid AIO failed(this one has been for GPU) and went back to air and temps are awesome with OC on mine I'm hitting 62C during the rendering there, with H100i I've hit 80 easily due this I'm very very happy
Regarding yours issues please check Nvidia control panel if there you have enabled CUDA
But from yours GPU-Z I see you are using 375.95 drivers which do have issues, please try roll back to 373.06 and check this thread too
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2908187
Seems those drivers breaking the rendering
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
Well, I am surprised I didn't get a crash (driver recovered). This is done using CPU (Firefly). Now that I have a good system, I find the firefly rocks for character renders. But HDRis (panos). I would struggle in Poser 6 long time ago on a system. Not my best, but I done better is the last days playing around, but never satisfied, finding flaws. No shadows on ground catcher floor.
Hi there
All renders looks awesome, still i would suggest try and download this EZDome
http://snarlygribbly.org/snarlyspace/ezdome.html
or BB EnvSphere which works like in FireFly or SuperFly
https://sites.google.com/site/bagginsbill/free-stuff/environment-sphere
With this you can use very easily HDRi and mostly I use above website for HDR which I posted and regarding my settings for SF,please download too EZSkin which would help you with better skin
http://snarlygribbly.org/snarlyspace/ezskin.htm
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
Hi there
Here is quicker render at 50 samples, its postworked in CS6(only levels, nothing more),used brighter HDRi with intensity of 3.0,with 2.0 render has looked OK,I've used for skin EZSkin 3
If you want to have shadow catcher for ground etc,I think Boni posted thread how to do it there,I will try to find that older thread
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
With the environment texture (cycles node), you can use an HDRI directly by plugging it in the Background node (Check Cast Light in the Background node). This was explained in the link I posted.
If you use EZDome instead, make sure you have created the sphere (sphere button in top row). After creating the sphere use of the presets provided in the link in the manual or create your own preset with your own HDR textures. Optionally create a EZDome sun in EZDome (first tab)
I prefer EZDome because it is easier to use and the results are pretty much identical. EZDome adds rotation, collor and intensity adjustments and allows you to separate environment from lighting. The HDR maps provide the lighting pretty much the same as Octane does and most likely Carrara as well. So far i have not heard from anyone that EZDome fails, so let me know the steps you are making where it fails, so i can notify snarly
Here one example where I used EZDome

Left poser (since Poser 6), that myself started using Carrara 6, due to lighting and very realistic renders. They even implemented HDRI panoramic. even images, for very realistic renders. Just got poser 11 Pro, due to cuda and the render engine. But finding out the programs doesn't use HDRi (panoramic), for lighting and background. They still use IBLs, and have found IBls are really not a good source for lighting. Ever wonder if Poser will ever use very high HDRi's. Furthermore, what lighting do you use for superfly? When I use some lighting, even IBls, images are dark. Firefly does way better than superfly....Weird.
