Subject: DIY Light sphere

I wanted to mess about with a home made diffuser, after seeing so many on the net, I thought rather than copy someone else's, I'd come up with one of my own, well, here's an idea I had, then realised that there are a ton of “Tupperware” ideas similar to this, oh well what the hell right? This uses an Ovaltine jar, and it really does give a softer light, albeit still a bit harsh for shiny things, that said, I did have it camera mounted, I'll have to try it off camera radio triggered, or indeed triggered ETTL2 with my ST E2 IR trigger. Anyway here is another test shot I did with it on cam.

I think it may need some kind of internal baffle? Maybe some velum or baking parchment on the inside? The camo tape you see on the picture below is to help the plastic jar “Bite” onto the slippery plastic of the strobe. I used my third party Godox 860C Ving, didn't wan to put tape on my 58EXII. The modification to the jar is simply cutting off the label and the threaded top part. Here is another situation I used the hack in.

That's my mum :)

I love the results you got with your DIY flash light diffuser! I love DIY stuff and this is something I would definitely try out, but first I need to get a light sphere. Thank you for sharing your project with us! I can't wait to see if any other members with light spheres try this out. The end results are great and you don't have to go out and buy anything, you can use what you have in your refrigerator. P.S., I love the photo of your mom! 😄

Well keep referring to me as Adobe, that way people will assume I am the CEO of Adobe LOL!..No apologies needed Mies, and sorry for the late reply, I have been a bit unwell, with my Psoriasis.

aww! You are too kind, thank you, should start tonight if I get my mojo working. I went to the store today, and they had a good deal on Melons, so I got one for shooting, and eating of course :) Might do that first then the ornaments, of ornaments first then melon, mind dangerous territory, I am extremely fond of them, let's hope I don't scoff it all :)

Deenamic ( ) posted Mon, 16 January 2017 at 4:05 PM

Maybe you can go ahead and go crazy on the melons and save one slice for a photo, you can call it "The Last Slice." lol I love looking at ornament photos. I have downloaded a lot of ornament photos thinking I would use them in my images. I'm planning on using them one day.
