Subject: Lighting Question?

Does any one know if you can use a smoke/flame physics setup and get light from it? I haven't figured out why my flame does not give off light itself. I used one in this image and had to resort to a spot light. To emulate light coming from the flame. Using Blender 2.78c with Cycles and Filmic. I know that volumetric lighting is supported but only find information on how to make god rays and such. Is there something I am missing, or is it a case of only having the option to fake i?. Like I ended up doing.

Are you using an emission shader node for the flame? You need this in order to have it cast light in the scene.

Does your flame object have an associated shader? You might try an emission node, perhaps.

I am just learning all the options for smoke/flame physics. Though I setup a shader like the tutorial that I was following. I did not use an emission node. Was not sure if I could or the right way to do it. So I will go back and take a look. See what I can do. Thank you for the suggestions and for the FB addition. And yes I have FB.

In this tutorial from Blender Guru, he creates a camp fire which illuminates the surrounding scene. There is an example of a node setup in there which shows where he includes the emission node. Hope it helps.

That's actually the tutorial that I was following. But I stopped when he got to making the sparks. Probably should have continued watching it.

Having never actually tried to do fire or smoke before I followed this one. Some how managed to get motion blur across the whole scene rather than just the particle sys. But was a good one to follow and learn some new stuff.
