The Break Room F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 2:49 pm)

Subject: I tried to make a thread...

It seems the computer ate it. I got some message and it never showed up. I was feeling like I was missing a sense of community. I saw this and thought, "Hey, I'll hang out and see about chatting maybe make a friend!" But my post got eaten. Now I am kinda put out. Really not feeling like a part of anything but those with empty wallets. Gonna see if I am allowed post anything before I type more into the great void.

Okay, the question I had was what keeps you going when you are new to this and your pictures don't attract many glances in the gallery? Sure I'll make the kind of art I want to make no matter how unpopular it is. But its lonely work. For ages I said, when I have x,y,z, then I'll make something... So I haven't really done many finished renders in my life yet. I kinda have lots to do and never can decide what would be best to do first, build scenes, build characters, turn some of those seamless textures into shaders, sort all my stuff, or just render some stuff already?

Hi, and welcome to the Renderosity. To answer your question, what keeps me going is just that I like doing my art, even if I don't get a lot of people looking at it, I had fun making it. And although I don't get a lot of comments the ones I do get show that my hard work is appreciated by some even if it's not really popular.

I've been doing this (digital art) for 16 years and I keep chugging along mainly because it's fun.

Great question and I am perhaps always in the same boat I have been a part of this community for over 10 years and you can look at my galleries and there is not a whole bunch there because having confidence in my own art I just think it never can compare to other artist who I will always say are thousand times better than me now I am forcing myself to contribute more art to my galleries but what helps me keep going is sharing knowledge I might not have confidence in my work but I have allot of confidence in my knowledge and sharing that knowledge with the community truly helps in not feeling like it is lonely work. Every chance I get to help someone out with answering a question or pointing them in a direction to help them achieve what they want helps me over come some of my to harsh self criticism which holds me back from building models and making renders. I hope this answers part of your question

Thanks! I was pleased with the stuff I have done and it is fun. I like playing with the textures and clothes and morphs so much, I haven't gotten around to the rest I suppose.

I like collecting environments (like rooms, streets, etc). I have tons of those that I have never used yet.

I loved Dreampaint's stuff and lots of Poisen's stuff. I finally picked up The Pod by Arki and suddenly I can make those alien world scenes I always dreamed of making. I just got Skin Builder 3 and feel like I have everything to create the kind of art I always wanted to make. I want to retexture some things. I want to create some characters and maybe try painting on the textures. I am just kinda lost because now I have loads of stuff to work with and the only thing holding me back is limited time because loads of stuff is going on in real life and I am having to put in lots of hours of work outside the home. That and I am overwhelmed. Its go time, finally and I need a swift kick to the behind cause I am freezing up.

I can empathize with the time issue. There's a lot I want to do but I work full time plus I have my husbands business to help him with on my "off time".... feels never ending. I can always use an extra Sunday in the week. ?

My husband is opening a third rent-to-own store. I handle the computer issues on lap tops, desk-tops, sometimes tablets and phones for two stores normally. Normally I am lucky to get to bill him for 12 hours a week as I pro-rate it for him. My time away from the house is a bit more, sometimes he just wants company while he works. But with this other store opening, I have refinished 3 jewelry cases, helped put up a chairrail and paint the bottom half of the store, networked the computers company software and printers, built coffee and end tables, unpacked all the lamps and moved stuff all over the backroom as he built shelving. My father-in-law passed away last Monday and we couldn't even slow down for that. My husband needed to work through it because that's how he deals with things and I was right beside him. Maybe I should cut myself a little slack. Today I just couldn't get anything artsy done at all. Tomorrow he has more office equipment to set up and I'll be gone all day. I would love two Sundays!

I managed another lazy day. I'm playing in Daz Studio and looking over what I have. I ended up buying some more texture stuff, Traveler made some Mid evil armor iray shaders. I am going to play around with making wearables presets in daz studio. I can use the iray shaders I have to dress up outfits and such. I enjoy this type of thing more than getting things ready to render I'm afraid. My husband wants a character to fight a dragon as he loves RPG's. Maybe if I fall in love with the armor I can work up to that dragon fighting scene.

I've posted this a while back, but I am part of a free contest site, I moderate the 3D section. We are always looking for people to join. Membership is free, contests are free, and the site is paid for by buying bling to award to entries. We also hold a Battle of the Strippers contest every three months, 3D Art entries are welcome for that also. I book-marked it. I haven't had the time to really get anything done lately. I have a small break today to clean up home life and do things for my kids. I am mostly just sorting my runtime. I managed to get a lot of new old content from a PC sale at Daz so it required me resort my content as Studio trashed some of my sorted content anyway. I ended up getting the gore shaders in prime today to try out on the pod by arki. I picked up a light set because I stink at lighting. I have been tempted both to create some shaders from the fabric tiles I have collected here and create some characters and and really learn to work on the skins. I am a bit overwhelmed, there is so much for me to do. Before I had put off doing characters waiting for a skin builder 3, now I have that plus places to stand characters with lots of old scene files and structures. Perhaps the lights I got will make rendering quicker. The scenes might need to be retextured to match the more detailed G3F. So I have plans to sort my files to make character and scene creation go faster plus retexture stuff I have for scenes and outfits. I guess I'm not sure whether to be creating scenes or characters. Right now jolly sessions of sorting content is all I can manage.

Lighting is honestly a lot easier with IRay. I never was good at it in 3Delight. I corrected a lot of my mistakes in Photoshop.

I went back to Daz the other day and V8/genesis 8 was out. I invested a lot to make G3 flexable. We're talking morphs and Skin Builder and WearThemAll eye texture collections. I still have sets on my wishlist here for G3F. I waited so long for skinbuilder to come out and it seemed like I just got it and felt pretty good about making characters with G3F. I was sad because now everyone is going to be selling V8 Gen8 stuff and G3F won't get much new content. Lots of people posted they were sad G3F's run was over already. But everyone was saying how many people ran out and bought V8 and she outsold V7 etc. Still, I invested in G3F and I think I should be using her for the next two years. Daz may come out with a new Victoria model every two years but my finances won't let me deck out a character every two years. I am sick of being in a building phase with a model. Genesis one and Genesis 2 I never was able to deck out before Genesis 3 was out. I was only able to deck her out by ignoring the G3M entirely. I love my Kia, there is a new Kia Soul coming out every year, but that doesn't mean I can run out buy a new one every year. I have decided to stick with G3F for as long as possible and maybe never buy a model that isn't two years old yet. I don't make money from this hobby so I can feel free to be as old and out of date as I want to be. My favorite render was a V4 one. Its not like I'll be a better artist with a new model. I buy and use V4 clothes and stuff all the time. I am glad the community is maybe growing and they sold a lot of V8's, but for my peace of mind I am not climbing on that bandwagon, I can't sign up collecting stuff for another character until I really have a chance to wear out the one I already have.

FlagonsWorkshop ( ) posted Tue, 20 June 2017 at 8:09 PM

I think there will be converters out for V8 clothes on V7 so I wouldn't worry too much there. The textures seem to be fully interchangeable between the two, I have used V7 textures on V8, haven't tried it the other way around yet. You may have less to worry about than you think.

RitaCeleste ( ) posted Tue, 27 June 2017 at 10:19 AM

Yeah. I went back and looked around and there are a lot products for G3F I don't have yet. Getting the clothing on her is all I am worried about.

My sister decided she is into collecting coffee mugs. She then tried to talk me into designing a collection of coffee mugs for Society 6. I wanted to strangle her. I don't have cute fairy stuff or LadyLittleFox's characters or stuff to make to cute little coffee mugs. I have thought about making cute fairy t-shirts designs. But doing a collection takes and yes money. I don't think its a great investment. I like making real looking characters, or building alien landscapes and creepy characters. That doesn't play well on t-shirts or coffee mugs. Or even walls really. But it makes me happy. I am not sold on making cute fairies for fun, even though it might be a lot of fun. I like them but I am not sure I could pull off all the needed special effects and dramatic lighting and serious postwork to create something really special for sale. There are so many great artists doing an unreal job with that already. But I am still adding DM's fairy stuff to my wishlist....Maybe someday I'll work on it.

Well, I am actually making shaders from the older blackwidow textures. I am lightening them up so I change the color inside iray. I know its a monochromatic and building it is boring me to death. Not all the textures worked out but I have found some really cool textures that did make great shaders. So yeah I was drooling over some of the newer shader sets in the merchant resource section. I need the wood floors and ceramic tiles but I want the florals.... I continue to peek at the sales even though I am not suppose to buy anything for a month. It was suppose to be for monthS but my husband bought a car and I got a tiny reprieve, third time this year I've needed one for blowing my budget. Finally we have someone hired and and I get to stay home more. We shall see if that really happens.
