Subject: I Have 3 'Carrara Replacement' Threads. I Think They Should Be Stickies...

I have 3 threads about Carrara replacements, and I think they should be stickies, for the forum users who are considering uninstalling Carrara for good and forever.

I the meantime, and until the forum admin obliges, here are the link to these threads

Lightwave As Carrara Replacement

Shade3D As Carrara Replacement

Cheetah3D As Carrara Replacement

I also plan to add a blurb about Iclone as Carrara replacement, as soon as I have time.

i have some new carrara content headed for the rmp.

There is a new scifi themed set out from TangoAlpha.

The author of the VWD has a new plug-in in the works. Thread mentioned is in the final testing.

If they can't directly open and use poser and DAZ content they are hardly a replacement now are they? Seems you want to kill carrara worse the DAZ lol

Good points, I agree.

To me, Carrara is, and always will be a great user friendly, economical program, that has wonderful results. Do you think anyone besides Daz might pick it up?

That doesn't mean there aren't other programs out there of course, but Carrara's my favorite.

I doubt it, since the market for low cost 3D animation programs seems weak. But Smith Micro, publishers of Poser, might consider it, given the great usability of Poser content in Carrara. I recall someone with knowledge of the situation saying that DAZ acquired Carrara in the first place to keep the Poser company (whoever it was at the time) from getting it. So it was a defensive, blocking type move.

I agree its a great program, and I'll be using it indefinitely regardless of what happens commercially. I have Lightwave and Poser but use them only if I have to for specific content that does not work well in Carrara, a rare situation since I typically buy only content that does work in Carrara. Meaning mostly Poser format plus some Carrara format. I also have Vue which I do use quite a bit, great environmental scenes plus some spectacular Vue only content.

Yes. me too. Let's hope Smith Micro picks it up. I have Cinema 4d, and though it can do some interesting things, I don't find myself using it nearly as much as Carrara. Carrara, is fun, exciting and user friendly, and you don't need a renderer like V-Ray to make something good happen. IMHO, Carrara, can be as serious a tool as any. We gotta think of a way to keep our program alive and kicking. Come on Smith Micro!
