Subject: Smart characters

I know well about smart props; they are useful.

I found that if I replace a character's root actor's "parent" line by a "smartparent" line, I can make a smart character. E.g., I have made helmet models,. which are characters because they have jointed parts (visor, chinstrap, back-of-neck pad). If I replace the helmet's cr2 file's BODY actor's "parent" line by the correct "smartparent" line, on loading it to stage, it will put itself on the current character's head, if he is the right sort of character. This is useful. Is this intended to happen?

Nice find, Anthony.

Don't know if it was intended, but since a lot of Poser's functions were discovered by accident, or just by faffing around, it wouldn't surprise me if the feature is just one of those things.

Thank you for this news Anthony!

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

I have discovered that (at least in Poser 11) the parentage caused by using a smart character is different from an ordinary parentage, and any attempt to re-parent the character thus parented, will not work.
