Subject: NVIDA Iray Setting

I noticed in Advanced Settings under Hardware, there are two choices for me to use for rendering. The first choice is CPU and the other is my NVIDIA GeForce. Which one is the best for rendering on my computer?

Generally using your graphics card (Nvidia Geforce) will be much faster. Iray utilises Nvidia graphics cards Cuda cores for render acceleration.

When rendering with a nvidia card you must make sure your scene does not exceed the RAM on the card. You can see the ram usage in the little window that p[ops up behind the render screen once the render has begun. The real ram-hog is the textures, I have a gtx-1080 with 8gb and it is not too difficult to exceed it. If the ram is exceeded, the render will transfer to CPU. There are several free and commercial scripts for making quick texture-map reductions.
