Subject: M4 PROBLEMS

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 12:45 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 11:48 PM

Hello,

I dont know why Ive invested in M4: ++, creature creature, muscle, etc. I can never get them to work. I've installed them in ROOT FOLDERS, every folder you can imagine.

V4 morphs seem to show - but not m4.

Any final solutions?

Is there anyway to PERMANENTLY PUT THEM IN A CHARACTER - so I don't have to go through this nightmare, time and again?

thanks

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 12:56 AM

Not to mention - the program CRASHES when this happens -- and you have to reload everything from scratch!!! ugggh.

Are there any male characters THAT DON'T NEED MORPHS that I can buy? With accessories?

thank you

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 1:05 AM

Does anyone have A PIC of what M4 morphs ++ LOOKS LIKE IN THE PROGRAM SELECTION loaded?

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 1:11 AM

Are there any NON DAZ, NON POSER characters that are EASY to use from outside vendors? { I really do not care for this morphing, endless problem system }

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 1:19 AM · edited Sun, 14 January 2018 at 1:31 AM

finally, SHOULD I MOVE TO GENESIS {1} and DYSON instead? is that an easier system? Can M4 products work with that easier? Does it still need morphs? I hear it won awards, but didn't last, what a year?

thanks

calmday ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 2:16 AM

I just thought of a solution!

Hello,

My work with M4 is stalled - going on years now. I own ++ morphs, creature creator, muscle, etc Not to mention accessory products.. Problem - can't ever use them!

The main problem is ++ never seem to install correctly. I don't think I even know whats its supposed to look like in the library.

1, I will pay someone for a TREE I can add to my c: rootfolder - with M4 inside, plus all working morphs { yes I have receipts I own -- all products}, that I can just add the runtime and be working!

  1. Or { second choise} screen pics for pics showing detailed paths of install, and how to trouble shoot the installation .

thanks

You must not install Michael 4 to the application folder, modern versions of Windows will block you from writing the necessary files there. None of your content should go in the application folder.

ssgbryan ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 10:38 AM

Did you run the ExP batch file?

If you don't to that, the morphs won't activate.

ssgbryan ( ) posted Sun, 14 January 2018 at 11:16 AM

The ExP batch file is in the Runtime/libraries/!DAZ subfolder ( DzCreateExPFiles-M4.bat ).

After you install a morph set from DAZ (Morphs ++, Creature Creator, etc), you must run this .bat file to activate the morphs.

What RHaseltine said:

Ever since Microsoft introduced the UAC this has been a major problem with installing content "the old way". Simply because Windows won't allow write access to any files in the "applications" folder, and it gives a flying fart about where the write request comes from.

The problem we now have is that a DAZ installation of M4/V4/whatever needs to be installed into Poser's own "root" runtime, which is the "runtime" folder which can be found here: "DRIVE:/Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser Pro 2014/Runtime*.*"

If your files aren't in the "Poser Pro 2014Runtime*.*" folder but somewhere on your "C:/" drive anywhere, you're in trouble.

Because any workarounds to fix this would be quite complex and error-prone, I'd simply sugest the "radical" method:

UNINSTALL Poser. Reboot your machine.

Then install Poser again, **BUT NOT ON "C:/" DRIVE! ** Choose "D:/" or whatever you like. When you're asked about your Library Location, always choose "External". Remember it's paramount to keep your libraries (- any libraries! -) OFF the "C:/" drive to prevent the UAC to get it's greedy control over your libraries!

Once you have Poser installed like this, you can install M4/V4 into the "DRIVE:/Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser Pro 2014/Runtime*.*" Then run the EXP batch files and all the other "DAZ initialization rites" as described in the readme s. That should get it all to work properly.

DISCLAIMER:

It's late here and I'm tired. This how-to was written from memory because it's been a while since I last installed Poser, so some advise given might be inprecise. I hope others can help me out here about the exact procedure. Sorry if I made any errors, or when I wrote complete nonsense. I tried to do my best.

You don't have to go through all of that. Poser and the M4/V4 figures will work just fine with Poser in its default directory and the runtime in the documents directory as I described in the other thread.

Just use the daz install manager to install all of your M4 files to your designated Poser runtime. You don't have to mess with the Exp scripts or none of that if you let the install manager install the files. And the runtime will still work with any version of Poser you use. You can even move the runtime to another drive later and it will still work, you just have to point Poser's library to the new location if you move it. I've done this so I know it works.

I have never installed Poser in the default "Program Files" location since the days of Poser 4. Mine goes where it's most convenient for me, and all my DAZ stuff is from my old Poser 6 Runtime, added to my current install as an extra Runtime. Runs without a single problem.

Once you've injected the morphs you preferred, you can either save that M4 to your hard drive (as a starting point) or save it into your poser M4 library.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

thanks, did not know that.

Ive researched this issue before, and collected lots of different - and confusing answers!

Hi-

do you mean in the root folder where I installed everything?

WHERE would that be in windows 7? Do I have to have DAZ INSTALLED to have that folder? { I dont really use daz studio }

Hi, okay this enters the confusing territory of responses now.

I like MY OWN FOLDERS not daz, or poser dESIGNATED folders. USING W7

I've never had a problem with M4 (or V4) and all his morphs. I use Poser 10 and Windows 10.

What I did:

-install Daz Studio.

-download and install M4 and all his morphs into Daz studio using their downloader.

-add "My Daz Library" as a runtime in my Poser Library.

I load base figures accessing the "My Daz Library" as a runtime in Poser

I add morphs

I then turn off the lights and save the base figure as a poser file

I have a bunch of V4/M4 figures loaded with various morph combinations (Most V4 characters require only V4++, some require A4 or Elite and A4 etc.)

When I want to build a character I import the saved figure and go to work on them

I then save the character as a poser file to be imported as I need it

I import a naked character into the work space, dress them and save them as a new file to be imported into a scene

My Daz Library is located (for me) Local Disk >> Users >> Public >> Public Documents

I don't recall if I had to tell Daz Studio to place the folder there or not (its been a couple of years at least)

All of my Poser content that I install is stored in separate runtimes. I have one for poses, one for lights and materials, one for V4 contemporary clothing, one for hair etc. I did this as a way to organize my stuff so as not to loose it. (I also keep an Excel spread sheet with each item, it's location and notes I make on the utility of some items like clothing or hair)

These runtimes are located in a folder in My Documents

I never use Poser to install my content, I do it all by hand, this allows for greater control over the organization of my runtimes. I always put material files in a subfolder within the item they are for.

Using DSON is tricky You need to install the original files into the Daz library (via Daz studio) You then need to install the Poser Companion files for the Daz files in poser in a runtime you can access. I have not attempted to use Genesis as I have a significant investment in V4/M4 characters and clothing but I have a few Daz hair pieces that needed DSON

Sorry about the separation lines, but this editor runs all my individual lines of text together into paragraphs which seem harder to read. So I have to double space everything which looks messy. Hope this is helpful in some way.

I installed M4 to a runtime on a secondary drive (not the OS drive). The .bat files are at E:\Poser DL library\runtime\libraries\ !DAZ

You may want to look in C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\VirtualStore to see if you have runtime content banished there by User Account Control.

Also, if you have any external runtimes, go through them and make sure there is only one runtime/libraries/!DAZ folder containing M4 stuff...

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2018 at 10:06 AM

To summarise:

Michael 4 must not be in stalled to the application folder but to an external library folder - the Poser whichever Content folder created by Poser itself on install is best, as there are a lot of files to read and using a later external library will slow things down, but it isn't mandatory.

All morph packs must go to the same location - as WandW says there must be only one /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/Michael 4 folder. Content that isn't an ExP Morph expansion can go in other libraries if you like.

Having installed the base and morph packs, and any time you add a new morph pack (or remove an existing pack), you need to run the /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/DzCreateExPFiles-m4.bat file to create the "index" files that tells Poser what to load with the figure.

To use the morphs you need to inject them - Pose library Daz's Michael 4>Morph Injections and double-click the packs you want to use.

thanks. Is that critical? Its working now- I have a root folder - installed by Daz. But theres actually 3 M4s in the library and a bunch of M4 stuff scattered.

{ is there an approved way to remove DAz people, not installed correctly? }

calmday ( ) posted Mon, 15 January 2018 at 10:22 PM

I note if you RUN / ie: double click BAT FILES in a root folder, it helps somewhat.

Ie: the WHITE FUZZ on characters goes away. { annoying fuzz , but doesn't affect rendering by my tests}

but it didn't seem to help the morphs / morph problem. So you dont run the BAT file IN the morphs folder, correct --- but WHERE?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 16 January 2018 at 9:10 AM

/Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/DzCreateExPFiles-m4.bat is the one to run (there should be the Michael 4 folder as a sub-folder of that).

The batch file launches the DzCreateExPFiles utility, also in that folder, and tells it to process the Michael 4 folder - it grinds through building a list of the morph delta, group, and ERC link files added there by each exP Morph expansion and writes out a set of master files which the base figure file is written to load. That way new morph expansions can be added to the base figure (instead of the old system where each morph expansion needed its own CR2, which made mixing and matching a pain).
