Dunno about you guys, but I just HATE rejection.... and no, I ain't talking about asking a girl to the prom (if she says no she's known you for a few years and has her own reasons for that...) My rejection is much, much more brutal - when you ask a total stranger to do something wihtout offering them anything really in return. Take today, for example. After a few weeks of promising myself I was gonna have a word with a tattoo artist about taking photo's I finally got the bottle to make the call. Start at the top, I thought, and phoned one of THE best ones in our area. Like, this guy has awards etc. and is very well known. And what happened? He said yes. Man, I hardly explained anything before he was saying 'no problem' - even offering to get people in who had large works in progress, the works - and as for the fact it'll be digital, you'd think it was his phreakin' birthday! "Hey, I've got a computer here, so you'd be able to put some on there, right?" What can I say? Except that next time I get an idea, I'm just gonna grab at it - and if any other 'newbies' are in a similar situation, just go for it..... Cheers! Mike (",)

Dude, where's the rejection exactly?

The greatest roadblock we all have is fear. The older you get the less it bothers you. Rejection is one of those. I always ask myself whats the worst thing that can happen? I had an electonics tech who was in my shop who was the best repairman, because he had the attitude that if it is not working he could not hurt the unit by trying to fix it. In the case of the Tatoo Artist, he can say no thanks. Not a very serious result. You just go find another artist. Fear of looking stupid to someone else is most peoples hangup. Fear of failure stops most people from even trying. In my case I'm TOO! (fill in the blank)with old, sick, smart, ugly, busy or what ever to care what most others think.

By the way, you offered him the ultimate prize. You admired his skill and want to exhibit it. That is not a trivial gift.

Hi jordy, good to hear that it paned out, that is exactly the way I started working with the glass blower, he is really well known, and I asked if I could borow some of his peaces and in return I woul;d give him a copy of everything. He liked the idea and is now making some custome peaces for me to shoot. -Gabe-

@Slynk - exactly, that's the point I'm making. The rejection is, in most cases, unfounded. It's a confidence thing.... @Bill - yeah, I agree about the age thing - I wasn't really a confident child (until I hit puberty and realised how lucky I was, but thats another story! lol) but now lately with the comments I've had and the response of people I'm getting there! @Gabe - I just wish I'd had the balls to do it sooner.... I've missed out on so much already, this is just to get experience so I can go on to other things.... Cheers all! (",)
