Subject: How to make morph only poses?

ManOfSteel ( ) posted Wed, 07 February 2018 at 2:55 PM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 6:46 AM

Is it possible to make poses that include changes to the morph dials but NOT the position (bend, twist, side to side) dials. I want to make poses that will change the shape of a character but leave the figure in whatever pose that it's currently in.

Yes, you can create the character morph and then save it to your library. Open a newly posed character, and apply the morph. Depending on the morph you might need to adjust the pose after the fact. This should work in all versions of poser.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

Yes. I know how to do that. But as you mentioned, I might need to adjust the pose after the fact. Is there away to make a save a morph change without having to adjust the current pose? For instance, let's say I make some changes to the morph dials to make the character fat. Is there a way to make the character fat (according to my changes) while still in any pose? Can I just change and save the fat morphs but not the position poses?

I believe you need to have the figure in zero pose first ... otherwise it saves pose as well. You could as a work around. zero pose your figure with morphs done ... save pose ... then do an undo on your document to return to your pose.

Yes, you can save the morph independently without body transformation. Under the pose category, proceed to save the pose as a full body figure and in the second panel, select morph channels only for the final save. That way you can apply the morph changes only while your figure is in a different pose.

hborre, thanks for responding. I'm confused. From the Pose category? You mean the pose library? Click the "+" to create a new pose? In the popup that appears there is an option to "select subset" but I can only choose body parts, not specific morphs.

Each component of the Library is called a category, Character, Pose, etc. It has occurred to me that you can create Morph Injection files to load individual or grouped morphs to a figure. If you go to the File menu on the upper taskbar and select export, the contextual menu will contain the Morph Injection script. The Panel window that opens will contain all the selectable body parts and full body morphs to save into the Morph Injection file. Make your selections, then on the next panel navigate to your preferred Pose folder, give your file a name and save the pz2. On the Poser stage, select the appropriate figure then click on your newly created Morph Injection file icon. It will mostly be the shrugging man icon until you create a proper thumbnail. This action will load the morph into your figure and all you need to do is dial it up. No other posing is involved. Now if you want the morph to appear instantaneously, you may need to edit the pz2 file in a text editor.

That'll still save body part poses tho'. To write poses for ONLY the morphs, not body or body parts, you could try the PoseWriter Panel in Scripts-Partners-Netherworks (there's a help file there too), select the parts you want to save morphs on, and uncheck everything except Morphs at the bottom of the panel.

Note that this only really saves the dial settings, so your character will have to have the morphs you want loaded (possibly using the injection method hborre goes on to explain) before you apply the pose.
