Subject: Animation Sets

ader ( ) posted Sun, 11 February 2018 at 9:47 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 2:12 AM

I’ve been trying to get Animation Sets to work for days (and nights),actually weeks now.

If I delete an animation set then the drop down disappears so I can’t select another animation set. It also appears to not actually delete the animation sets often as if I try to create a new animation set with the same name as the one supposedly deleted it won’t let me.

Also when I export to FBX most times the animation sets do not get exported at all. Sometimes one or two will export but not the rest.

These issues effectively make the animation sets feature useless.

Last night I spent five hours trying to export a figure to FBX with 3 very simple animation sets and gave up.

Does anyone else have these issues with Poser Pro 11?

I’m considering ditching Poser for Daz as these FBX features just do not work.

This feature has never worked well. It was intended for use with VRML, an early animation system that never got popular. Poser's developers have pretty much abandoned it.

It's being "sold" as a feature for game development and along with the other game development oriented features just doesn't seem to work (props exported lose all materials/textures for example). So I guess they repurposed it with the 2014 Game Dev edition and continued in that vein with Poser Pro 11 - albeit not very well. Very annoying to spend money on something for certain features only for those features to be useless for their intended purpose.

Hi Ader

Unfortunately Poser's fbx import/export is very buggy, I have multiple tickets out to them on fbx issues.. You might want to try importing your Poser scene into studio and export it to fbx from there to see if it works. Their exporter is much better and one of the reasons I switched over to Studio for some things..

Thanks bsteagal, good to know it's not just me.

I tried DazStudio FBX export and yes it's much better, everything seems to work from DazStudio. The morph/blend-shape names from Poser are nicer than those from Daz but it's more important that they actually work!

You are welcome Ader.

What are you exporting out to? a game engine or somewhere else? I use all of mine in motionbuilder, (since I'm a mocap guy) then bring back in to studio when needed to render (I've switched over to Marmoset toolbag for most things though).. The blendshape naming when exporting is a pain, but easily renamed when brought back into poser (just edit with wordpad to eliminate the prefix it puts on it)

I've tried to do the same in Poser, but sometimes morphs don't work at all, it categorizes things differently.. and on import, does all kinds of stupid stuff, like add info to the bones, so when saving as a pose file they don't work, and to edit them manually is a headache).

Here are some examples of tests (https://vimeo.com/user54654004)

Am exporting to Unity. I love Poser but it’s always been flakey.
