Subject: how to keep the light and hide the source

the_lova_skul ( ) posted Thu, 29 March 2018 at 12:43 PM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 9:48 AM

i'm rendering from the preview window (because rendering any other way takes FOREVER) and the lights are visible in my scene, and when i uncheck the "visible" option from properties, it gets rid of the light ENTIRELY. how do i make an invisible light that still works?

use the preview render engine, not just the preview window.

I stand corrected, only the infinite lights hide the rest do show up, and sorry, to best of my knowledge there is no way to hide the other types.

After testing some. The lights I turned invisible by unchecking the "visible" marker still had the light working, and not showing the geometry. They only quit shining light if I Unchecked "On", which turns the light off..

I did notice that if you uncheck visible and the select the light again, poser recheck the visible switch, so after you uncheck it, don't select the light again, else you have to uncheck visible again.

This in 11 Pro though, and you didn't state which version.

Also, I tried replacing the geometries for the lights with nulls(empty geometries) and this worked, but only in new scenes. Saved scenes still loaded the geometries.
