Subject: Conforming Cloth for G8 Proper Workflow?

TMDesign ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2018 at 2:07 PM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 9:03 PM

If this thread doesn't belong here for some reason, I beg for your forgiveness, but I'm a thoroughly frustrated user who desperately tried to find a helpful tutorial that would see me through the process of creating a conforming clothing for G8F but no good results. All the tutorials I've found on the matter (and this has become a standard for Daz Studio and Poser) are half-arsed, barely covering the basics, not addressing the issues that come up in the process, at least with the new versions. I'm running through some ridiculous issues, like, right now, I have this cloth object and when I move G8F's arms, the underarms are going crazy. I'm not a tech savvy person, so I go on a hunting trip for anything that sounds remotely like it could be connected to the issue. I don't know whether it's the weight maps, the rigging, whatever else, and in any case I shouldn't have to hunt down ten different tutorials to address one subject. Honestly, at this point I'm considering abandoning this software completely and this isn't even the first time. Is there anyone who can help me with this, please?

It could be the weight maps, it could be the need for JCMs (morphs triggered by joint bends), it could be a mesh issue. There probably isn't a one-size-fits-all response to this, or most other questions. A good start would be to post some images showing the issue.

I didn't post an image, because the thread is really not about this particular issue, but just asking if there's a step by step tutorial one could follow that addresses everything that is supposed to be addressed. I'm clearly not the first to have this problem, but there I didn't find a solution. And it happens with whatever I have to learn about Daz Studio and Poser. It's tedious and becomes very discouraging after a while.

And here's this particular problemG8f_CC.jpg

how does it fit when the figure is not posed? And how are you raising the arm - does the underlying mesh on the base figure look OK at that? The shoulders are one of the hardest areas to get right, according to practically everyone I have seen comment.

When the figure isn't posed, it looks perfect. Sits on the model well, isn't distorted, no poke through of any kind. In the picture above I'm raising G8's arm with "Arms up-down" dial in Pose controls, on the Parameter's tab, the effect is same with Bend dials for selecting arm, and when I lift it by grabbing it in the viewport. By "underlying mesh" I suppose you're referring to G8F's mesh? it's fine, there's nothing wrong with it.

But how does it sit in relation to the figure - is it very close to the skin, or is there a gap?

Close to the skin.

Well, then the weight maps should be close - but the JCMs should also project fairly well. As I said initially, it could either need more/better than auto-generated JCMs to kick in with the bends or it could need tweaking of the weight maps, I really don't feel confident to guess which would be a better starting point. I'm not sure how many experienced riggers hang out here, you might try posting on the Daz forums.
