Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 6:51 am)
It should be fine if you let the Poser installer use its defaults. As for number of threads, Poser will default to the number of cores of your processor(s). So with a simple quad core CPU, Poser will default to 4 render threads. With a HyperThreaded quad core CPU, Poser will default to 8 render threads. If you want to be able to do other things with minimal lag while Poser is rendering, you can lower Poser's priority.
I would generally use separate process. If you have a 32bit machine, separate process is crucial to allow as much memory allotment as possible.
Let the Poser installer place the runtime library in shared documents; do not put your own runtime stuff in program files; User Account Control will block saving files to that runtime.
Poser 12, in feet.
OSes: Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64
Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5
Thanks for the reply! I have six cores. Not sure about hyperthreading. I guess none, since it appears Poser has defaulted to six.
I forced Poser to install its runtime on an external drive, just because I've always had my runtimes on a separate physical drive. Hope that will be okay.
Windows 10 sure is locked down. Annoyingly so.

I'm installing Poser on a new machine, and it's been so long I forgot what settings are recommended.
In the render preferences...how many threads should I let Poser use? I seem to recall that you're not supposed to set it at max. And should I check "separate process" or not?
