Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 07 11:22 am)
I think it is a very very good Idea to post the skins. I bought some of the textures during my "beginning time" because of the characters and not only because of the textures. I nerver realy renderd them so close (dont know why) Since yesterday I saw the first posting for the skins I realy interested in them now. I think the Asia is the closest to real skin, but I also dont like the look so much (looks like getting out of bed and not wasshed) but could be changed in PSP. The most surprise for me was, that I realy like the Carly-Texture. I saw it at the marketplace and did not liked it. But here at your pictures where I can see it very close it looks very nice to me. I reminds me of just a bit Make up so the skin is covered and not shiny, ready for to go to work ... I would like to see more Items for Skin-Textures made like the pictures - very close. Thanks for the work you all make to post them here. I must go to the store now to order Carly now... (sorry for spelling?!?)
Thanks again for these...I still like asia...but yeah Carly is growing on me LOL! I would also love to see the freckled redheads close up. I wonder if I have Antons lights...what was the zip called? I have so many Poser related files that i haven't even unzipped yet it's a huge mess. If I could just afford another hard drive, I might decide to try some! :)
My thoughts on the various textures I posted... I am not going to go into a lot of detail about poses and lights and included extras, you can see those for yourself at the vendors pages. This is mostly to discuss the textures itself, not the "value" of the purchase in total. I might do more extensive reviews in the future if I get time or there is a demand.
Anya:
The Good
I really like Anya. As I look at her more in comparison I am starting to see her as a more and more viable option to my other textures. I like the skin tone and she seems pretty easy to light.
When I purchased her at Daz it was primarily for the eyelash transparency map. If you look at it you will see that the lashes are just amazingly well done to my eye. Also, the lips are nice and the eye textures make for some good options.
The Bad
The eyebrows. I like these but I would like a more natural set that wasn't so straight, maybe with a transmap for Vicky 2. Also, if you look at the area of the V2 eyebrows you can (or at least I think >I< can) see a faint discoloration to the face in the shape of the V2 eyebrows even with the morph set to "BrowsGone".
Asia:
Asia was the texture that, for me, really brought home the idea that photo realism was a possibility. The bump maps are good and the variations available for her MAT poses are nice.
The Good
With some tweaking Asia is/was one of the more realistic textures around. The body texture in particular has a fantastic amount of shading that forms nice nice natural looking tan lines.
The eyebrows are good and the eyelashes aren't too shabby as well, good things to havI finde in your tool box. Also, I use Asia's bump map a lot with other characters.
The Bad
The skin is a little too oily looking, and the skin tone variations in the face are too harsh for me these days. I am looking for more of the highlights to come from the render, not be built into the character.
I think the veins in the eye whites are too strong. While I am at it the lip texture looks like it is the wrong "scale".
Also, one must take into account the licensing issues surrounding Asia currently - this might be a strong mark against her depending on how you want to use her.
Bobby Sue:
The Good
The eyes and lips are wonderful, and the MAT files give you a nice range of options. The skin tone is a nice change from my other Vicky textures.
The included morph is worth mentioning too, the face is pretty :)
The Bad
That all said, I don't use her much. the skin tone too dark and the makeup a little ont he heavy side. Also, she strikes me as being sort of .... ?soft? comparatively? She doesn't look very in focus. It's hard to explain but you might see it in the render.
Daz Hi Rez "light" texture:
This is a good baseline texture for me, I use it a lot when working with face morphs because it doesn't have a lot of built in highlights or shadows and usually shows me the "real" shape of the face well.
The good
The lips rock!
There is actually a lot of subtle detail to this, the skin tone is not completely even and while when you look at it in Photoshop it looks kind of amateurish when it's on the model (where it counts) it looks really good. I think maybe Daz knows something I don't about textures.
The bad
I find the tone a little off color for me and it just seems a bit - boring to use for a final character.
**Shelby: **
I wasn't expecting to use her much. We do a lot of photo-realism here and this texture obviously isn't going to work for that. I had sort of put her on the back burner, then she grew on me.
The Good
Shelby is a nice, clean well done texture. She is usable in a lot of situations for me where a "photo real" texture isn't needed or wanted. I find her to be flexible in that she shows the underlying morphs well and doesn't seem to favor one face over another.
On a special note, Shelby works REALLY well for doing animations for us. The texture is clean and compresses well because of that. We also user her a lot in alternate rendering engines like the anime render engine we use with Max.
Lot's of MAT poses too. The eyes are great when you want that look :)
The Bad
This isn't ever going to be a good texture for photo-realism. The eyes are kind of ... odd? That often limits how much I can use them.
Carly:
Carly had been laying unused in my poser tree till this review - I had given up on her pretty much when them new fangled MAT files came into use - it was just always easier to pull out Asia or Shelby. Then I used her for this comparison and I am reminded of how much I like the way she looks.
I would really love it if Carly was updated and re-released, I would even consider paying an upgrade price of a few dollars to get MAT files and some lip and eye variations.
The Good
She has an exotic look. The Skin is useful for some applications that need more realism than a painted looking texture but doesn't have some of the flaws that photo-textures can exhibit. When that shoe fits, Carly is a good pick.
The Bad
The lips. I think the texture for them is totally out of scale... no ones lips look like that that I can see.
Some folks have asked for inclusions of other textures and I would love to comply :) If I come into some more money I will be adding a few I have my eye on - till then I can just say that unfortunately I am not of the lucky ones who gets to 'work with' or 'test' a lot of textures from the artists :)
Enjoy!
Listening to all of this and seeing that I have a bit of time now that Lance and Lotus are on their way and will be released soon, I am going to work on my Carly texture again to see what I can do about the lips and mats. I will place an image with her and the improvements, and ofcourse, if she is improved I will send the previous buyers a update! Thanks for this very constructive treat.

Hey all, OK... I figured the other thread had enough images to hurt some users laoding it so I am putting these here.
