Subject: Videoadapter

Lately i've made same bryce models. Bad thing about rendering is thats it taks a long, long time. I'm wording with a AmD 1400 proc, Geforce 2 videoadapter. I want to buy a better videoadapter, max $500. Does anybody has a good tip for me (brand, type). thanks! joervo@hetnet.nl - www.unit5.nl

You need to get over to the hardware forum and ask there I had the basic same question and was told the actual rendering speed is not designated by the video card but the processor and that the video card was excellent for modeling and haveing realtime refresh in modeling mode?I am upgradeing to the geforce2 SILURO 64 DDR AND A AMD 1.4 ATHLON so I wont be able to help there but if you like modeling you need to get to the amapi forum here and click on the link and download Amapi 4.15 its free and fun to learn not to many tutorials yet but in the forum here you can find links to some outstanding artists tutorials

it wouldnt matter if you had a kick vid card or not, bryce is slow and thats going to cost them some big time customers,i think i shouldve got vue4 and saved myself hours of sitting at the computer just waiting for a default rendring to finnnnnnnally get done then just to find that i need to change the lighting or a model or a cloud or whatever,i even got out my old vue2 last night and played with it to see something move, corel is going to lose on this uhoh because i for one will not buy bryce 6 unless the give me some kind of upgade for "free"to fix it,if they dont do it then im gone to e-on software who practically begged me to buy vue4 just before i bought bryce5,and what really tops this of is that my manual came with missing pages so i emailed corel and asked them if i could at least get a pdf manual and they gave me a bunch of crap about going the ones who sold it to me.............so i liked bryce 4 and i still use it but five is like watching two turtles race uphill,in a 100 mile headwind,on spilt oil, with two fifty gallon barrels of molasses stapped to thier backs

I agree Bryce is slow and I have heard nothing but how slow 5 is to 4 so I am going the route of Lightwave I hear nothing but good from that program anyways hope you find your solution

Well sure...Lightwave is better than Bryce 5, no argument there. But the "route of Lightwave" will cost you $2,500.00 Where as a Bryce 5 upgrade will run you $150.00, that's about 16 times less than Lightwave. But, hey...it's your lunch money. ;o) Original question up there (joervo) - it's true, your video card has NOTHING to do with rendering when you "render to disk", so it doesn't really matter. It's all about your cpu speed. Take that $500.00 and see if you can put a faster cpu in your motherboard. AgentSmith

If you don't like bryce, that's your freedom, however, if you like it and want some work arounds.... when rendering, turn off antialiasing completely so that the render only does one pass. Get in the habit of using faster textures with transparencies instead of volumetrics (where appropriate). Bryce is not dependent on the video card, only the processor. If you have some other puters around, network them and use the network render. I haven't done this yet, but its got great reviews for speeding up the render. I find that B5 release edition is about the same setting for setting as B4. B5 demo I'm told is very slow. What makes the release version slow is the premium render settings that are not available in B4. Remember, the more you want to do, the longer it will take so if you want the new software, feel free to buy a new puter to go with it.
