Subject: Lost my thumbs for older Poser content libraries content

shante ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2019 at 11:24 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 1:01 PM

I have been migrating Poser content since version 4 into Runtime Folders for use in now version 11. At each migration I seem to consistently lose the thumbs for the content in the Runtime folders. Makes it hard to see what you are finding or trying to load into a scene. I know I can just go down my Library folders add a file with a missing thumb into the scene and then reenter it into the library thus creating a new thumb. But I read some Poser versions back there was an easier way of creating those darn disappeared thumb images but can not find where I read it. Anyone here know of what I speak or does anyone know that easy way of creating thumbs for Poser content in Poser 11?

Before I re-index the runtime with PzDB I always use the free Poser RSR Converter. It's on Renderosity Freestuff as "RSR to PNG Converter".

I second the RSR Converter recommendation above.

I'll third that recommend, as I've always found it came in handy with older purchases.

I'll fourth the recommendation. For all older contents from poser 3 and upwards, RSR converter is a must!

does it work on a Mac?

ThunderStone ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2019 at 5:15 PM

There should be a version that will work on a Mac. Google for RSR converter for Mac

If it's the same as the Windows version then its a simple as

Choose RSR folder- navigate to the folder to you want to start with, can be Runtime/libraries or single folder Select Recursive tick box- all sub-folders will also be converted. Convert- watch the activity in the box below

Once you're sure you've done all the folders then delete the RSR files

Poser 11 , 180Gb in 8 Runtimes, PaintShop Pro 9
Windows 7 64 bit, Avast AV, Comodo Firewall
Intel Q9550 Quad Core cpu,  16Gb RAM, 250Gb + 250Gb +160Gb HD, GeForce GTX 1060

I was looking through my Runtime folders and I have a sheitz-load to create.....be there converting all darn day one at a time? Does this app do batch conversions?

ypvs ( ) posted Mon, 16 September 2019 at 4:05 AM

It doesn't appear to but does work quite quickly in the background and you can still work with Poser. As I said above, if you start in one of your runtime/ libraries folders and use recursive it will work through Characters, Props etc and all the sub-folders inside

The best RSR converter I've used is Dimension 3D's Runtime ZIP & Repair. Not only does it convert the RSR's to PNG's, but it also deletes them afterward. I just don't know if it works on the MAC system. Be aware, some very old content have made use of RSR's to store data. Those will not convert and will cause the program to quit prematurely. IIRC, there is an RSR file in the core Poser folder that shouldn't be touched.
