Subject: How will we access patches for Poser versions older than Poser 11?

SafetyGuy ( ) posted Sun, 15 September 2019 at 12:07 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 6:11 AM

Apologies if I missed this, it's actually been quite some time since I've done any renders and even longer since I've used Poser. But I keep purchasing software updates and assets because I'm sure real life will let me get back to rendering "any day now".

I have Poser Pro 2012, 2014, 2014 Game Dev, and even Poser 11. Planning to get them installed on a "new to me" MacPro5,1 this weekend. Of course real life had other plans so far and the old links I had to updates on the SmithMicro site don't seem to work any more.

Will the fact that we own old versions of Poser transfer to Renderosity? And will they show up in our Account to download?

I'm going to step out on this skinny limb to answer this one as I believe that any updates for versions that pre-date Poser 11 have come and gone. That also goes for downloading any previous versions as well.

Yes, that's my concern (about access to already released downloads and updates). I expect there's a lot of money out the door for the purchase and transition and that they're going to want to start showing some income. And the inclusion of the HiveWire products in the upcoming update to version 11 is nice. However, it seems dropping access to old versions/updates could buy them some hard feelings if people no longer have access to distribution files and patches for earlier versions of the software.

It's just a hobby for me. I'll be installing the older versions (I have physical media :-) ) mostly to pick up items from the libraries that may have dropped off later versions. Although, I would have liked to update to the latest SR. But for people who try to make a little coin off their rendors it could be more painful next time they have to rebuild a system or switch to a new system. I've noticed not everyone worries about business continuity to the same degree.

It would be nice if the digital downloads for previous releases and updates would be added to our Account even if the old versions don't get any new updates.

I'm still hoping to see an official answer.

@4361991 Sorry Eric. It appears that it is official. If you are truly making a coin off your renders (Way to go), you might think of it as an investment as you do get more features with the latest version of PP11.

Poser 11 still includes content from the earliest versions of Poser that you can still download, Eric. Just make sure you download ALL the content.

You should still be able to download the latest PoserPro2014/GameDev (full and patch, version 10.0.5.2895) from the download manager if you enter your PPro2014 serial number for the moment. I just tried.

Do it now, though, or the opportunity will be lost, when SM pulls the plug on their licence servers and download manager.

Does that mean that licenses for Game Dev will go away too?

It means the license for Game Dev will return an error message saying "This serial number has expired" when you attempt to launch it.

Unless you update using the system from Bondware tomorrow.

So there is an update for Game Dev then?

So, does that mean I can use the Game Dev serial with 11.2, or does it mean that I need to buy an upgrade?
