Subject: Poser 11.2 upgrade --How does one add Additional Content?

chocolatepaula ( ) posted Thu, 26 September 2019 at 1:41 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 2:02 PM

From the download page I have downloaded 14 zip files under Common Files, as well as all of the Legacy stuff, but I don't know how to install it into the program. Unzipping the folders, some of them have subfolders such as "Runtime" and "Documentation" so if necessary, I can find, folder by folder, what goes in each subfolder under Runtime, to the main Runtime folder with Poser. But that is VERY tedious! And even doing that, I have no idea where to put the Documentation folders.

Is there a way to easily add the zipped folders of Additional Content to Poser? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Thanks for any help.

Find the runtime you want to use. Open the zip file so you see Documentation and Runtime.
Select and drag them to your runtime folder.
you will get a message about files in the runtime overwriting but you can ignore that. the contents of the runtime folders will install to where they need to go.

The some of the ZLegacy content is VERY old, dating back to Poser 3 or so. I'd suggest just installing the new items and playing with them before you go to the tedia of installing the legacy items you may never use.

I did get a message about overwriting the Runtime folder which spooked me, as that meant I would lose everything already in that folder. Maybe I will copy it somewhere first, just in case. I'm on a Mac, which may act differently than a PC. So the Documentation folders go into Runtime, too?

OMG, I'm glad I backed up the Runtime folder. Dragging a different Runtime folder DID overwrite the installed Runtime folder with its four subfolders!!!

So, since it DOES overwrite the existing folder, I guess one has to go in and merge the Runtime folders manually? Good God, this will take a long time.Runtime folders replace.png

What I had to do, I discovered, was to copy the whole downloads folder to another drive. It will NOT work if trying to copy files from one Runtime to another--it will just overwrite the existing. BUT, from another drive, it will give the option to merge the folders. Still a very tedious process, and I do not know if I have Documentation and Templates in the right place to work.

I would suggest you create a new library within poser. First create a folder called whatever you like, but Additional content might be a good idea. This is best in public documents but can go anywhere that poser can write to.

In this folder create a new folder called runtime.

Now in poser in the library panel is an icon that looks like books standing on end, with a plus symbol. Click on this and a window will open, navigate to this to the new folderyou have created and select it and click ok. This will now add a new library to poser and you can put you new stuff in it by merging the runtme folders from the zip files with the runtime you created, with no fear of overwriting anything already installed in poser

Thank you, Nails60! Excellent idea. Thank you for explaining how to set up a library! I have already migrated over the Hive content, but I will create an extra library for the Legacy stuff. I have some files I purchased in the past (if i can find them) which I could put there, as well.

You can add as many additional libraries as you want, so for example I have one for all my LaFemme stuff, one for my Paul and Pauline stuff, one for weapons etc.

Hi, I was prompted to unzip the .zip file in the Poser 11 folder. I did encounter my choice to over right. Now I'm wondering if that is why my library doesn't show much content. Would anyone like to comment?

Nails60 ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2019 at 7:46 AM

NHK When you say unzip the zip file, which file are you talking about? The additional content files are extra zips that you have to download separately, there are a number of them, I can't remember how many. To download them you have to enter your poser serial number so you can't get them if you are using the 21 day free trail of poser.

Once you have downloaded them see this thread about installing them. No content should go into the poser folder in programs.

Thank you Nails60. I Apologize for my term used, I'm a newbie. I have tried zip files from the store and from freebies. can't see them in my content. I have not been sent any info about how to get the extra content. Not even in the Quick Start or Poser Support. Thank you for letting me know. However, I am not using the trail and I don't see much content in my library.

When you got the poser installer from posersoftware.com there were two files you needed to download install poser11.exe (.pkg if you are on a mac) and posersupport.exe (or pkg). I assume you ran installposer11 first and then posersupport. If you followed the defaults this will have set up a folder called poser11 content in your public documents folder. This is where the poser content that is displayed in your library is stored.

Just under the two files you should have downloaded from posersoftware.com/downloads there is a link which says "Download Additional Content Files (License required)". Click on this and enter your serial number and that will give you access to the additional content.

To install content so you can see it. I would suggest you add a new library to load the content.

I have explained how to do this a few posts up from this post. Now for freebies and purchased items. First look in the zip file and check that one of the first folders you see is called runtime. If it is you can go to the menu item in poser "install from zip archive" under files. Click on this and a window will open, navigate to the zip archive, select it and click on ok or open, I can't remember what its called. This will open a drop down menu, select the library you have added and click on ok. This will install your content, and you should be able to see it.

If the runtime folder is not one of the first folders in the zip file, you need to unzip the zip file (in windows select it, right click and choose extract all files) and then merge the runtime with the runtime you created when adding the library (you will have to do this with the additional content)

Hope this helps

What would be really helpful is if Poser 11.2 Update could put together a short film showing what to do : Downloads / New Library / Runtime / Folders / When there are so many Folders to add this would make life a little easier ? Poser is complex enough don't you think. Downloads.jpeg

Thank you for your remark saibabameuk. I've been looking over the training videos but can't get a grip on getting clothing to fit. I've been over Editing existing Joint Controlled Morphs in Clothing Jan 29, 2019 a few times and Can't follow it when trying do what is said on Poser 11.2. Next I will try La Femme Webinar and Figure Demonstration Feb 15, 2019.

Nails60 ( ) posted Tue, 15 October 2019 at 10:39 AM

When you say you can't get clothing to fit are you using clothing designed for that particular figure to fit or are you trying to get clothing from one figure to fit another? If the former, do you understand the difference between conforming and dynamic clothing?

Conforming clothing is normally in characters in the library and is quite easy to use. Here is an example. Start with default scene with LaFemmme. Now go to the library and find girl gear, this should be in something like LaFemme/clothing/republishing/girl gear. Now drag and drop the pants and top onto the LaFemme figure. This will CONFORM the clothing to LaFemme. Now if you pose LaFemme the clothing should follow the figure. If it doesn't right click on the clothing and a menu will appear. One of the items should be "conform (clothing item name) to " select this and a list will appear, select LaFemme from it and everything should work.

If you are still having problems, or this wasn't the problem you were having just explain them.

And Rendo has plenty of tutorials on this site under community tutorials, you probably need to start at the oldest and work forward, although I haven't watched the second one about runtimes for a while but when I did I wasn't impressed with that one it's a bit out of date.

Thank for your Post Nails60. Trying to get clothing from one figure to fit another is probably what is going on with me. Still trying to understand what works together, and how to choose what to get. So far I purchased a couple things (One, JamesG2= G2 Kelvin (BLK) Complete Figure Pack. and downloaded free stuff like "Quanto"). I need to keep playing around in Poser and the tutorials. Getting advise from the family is also helping a great deal, thanks.
