Subject: Poser 11 keeps crashing down

minkura ( ) posted Sun, 29 September 2019 at 1:54 PM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 3:38 PM

Hi everybody since my poser 10 lost its library due to mac and flash player problems, I decided to try poser 11 before I actually purchase it. Whatever I try to do, whether simulating dynamic cloth or applying something to a figure, poser just closes (crashes) itself. no warning, nothing. is that normal? what's wrong? is this a mac issue? How can I fix it. I tried to google, but I couldn't find a right answer to my problem.

Hi noonaa!

I upgraded from Poser Pro 2014 to Poser Pro 11.1 in August. Did the free update to Poser Pro 11.2 and haven't seen the crashes you're seeing. I've loaded Poser Pro 11.2 on 2 Macs and other than an activation issue (that appears to be fixed now), Poser is quite stable for me.

Just tried a cloth simulation of a sheet draping over a figure. That worked normally. I can apply clothing, hair, textures, etc. to a figure as normal. Something's going on with your installation it seems. Not sure if your Mac/Mac OS is causing this or your Poser installation. By chance, did you also install the Poser Support Files? There are 2 files needed for installation, one being the Poser app installer and the other is for the support files.

Also, if you have Poser 10, I believe you will get a free upgrade to Poser Pro 11.2. That's a great benefit. So no need to purchase Poser 11, just enter your Poser 10 serial number in the Activation screen and you should be good to go.

I hope at least some of this helps.

Lee

Poser 11.2 is also stable on my Mac. The installer should be creating all new preferences for you. I’d try a clean install again, and as Lee said, make sure you install the support files, too.

noonaa did you install the latest stable release - or did you install a beta release?

I agree with others: Poser 11 has always been fairly stable on my Macs and continues to be so with the update to 11.2. But I've never had more than one version of Poser installed at a time, and I suspect that's the culprit for the issues you're seeing.

I know you want to "try before you buy," but it might work better if you archive* your existing Poser 10 folders (the one in Applications and the one in Library:Application Support) and then delete them (or run an un-installer). Then install Poser 11.

  • By "archive" I mean copy to a backup drive.

You might also want to archive your existing Poser 10 "Poser Content" Runtime, but that should not be affected by changes in which application version you're using, so you don't need to delete that one. If you have any separate Runtimes for your downloaded or custom content, those shouldn't be affected either, although they'll need to be manually added back to the Library once you launch Poser 11. (The only reason you'd ever actually lose a Runtime is if you delete the folder from your hard drive; even if you remove the Runtime from Poser's Library, you can still find it via the Finder.)

For what it's worth, I had a lot of issues with Poser Pro 2014 to the point that I almost gave up on using it. But I gave Poser 11 a shot when it first came out and found it ti be a DRAMATIC improvement, in terms of how it works on a Mac. (I've heard Windows users say the opposite.) I'm now running Poser Pro 11.2 on a MacBook with macOS 10.14.6 (with 32gb of RAM and the Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB graphics card) and it's more stable than Poser has ever been for me before!

Hi guys, thank you so so so much for replying. I really appreciate it. Here is one thing: When I open poser 11 (the trial version) it says 64-bit. Does that mean anything? My mac is a mac os 10.13.6 I installed the latest version from here: posersoftware

Here on renderosity I can check the poser-software site and ugrade for 99 dollars to poser 11. There i can click on "check eligibility" and on their site I can paste my serial number. When I do so, it tells me :

Your license key could not be validated because of: Invalid Poser License Key For assistance, please can contact Poser Support.

I legally purchased poser back in 2015, so I'm not sure what to do. I did write to support but of course this might take a while... Some of you mentioned that I could upgrade for free. Where can I find that? Is that an offer from the official site?

Still, it keeps crashing down. Even if I don't do anything... just moving the mouse cursor over the interface and it crashes down... :( :( :( This did happen with Poser 10, but only if I had big files or big cloth simmulation ... but now I can't use neither 10 nor 11 ...

noonaa, the only versions of poser that were available for a free upgrade were Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev, Poser 11 and poser 11 pro. If you were asking about a different version of poser ( poser 10, poser pro 2014, or earlier ) than these, these products were not affected by SM closing their servers and will continue to work as normal.

Can you tell me which build of High Sierra you are using?

I'm on a mac too and i dont' get many crashes. my crashes are when i have certain python scripts all open at once and scroll too rapidly through my advanced library manager script. have you noticed anything in particular bringing on a crash?

@structure: here is my data: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

does this help somehow? I'd even buy the full version of Poser 11, but if that keeps crashing down too, than it would be a waste of money :(

@estherau: the crash happens at random. Sometimes when I move with my cursor over the figure or sometimes when I don't do a thing. Poser 11 just closes ... nothing more. just closes ... sooo weird ... I'm really at a loss ...

Poser

Poser Support Files

Please uninstall poser completely, and download and install the 2 files linked above. Take care to backup your preferences. but try installing without your preferences, see if this makes a difference.

You may have some things you need to keep in your old poser 11 eg python scripts, so rename your old poser 11 folder to Old poser 11. Then when you install with the above installers you get a brand new poser 11 folder and you can merge back in the things you think you may need like your python folder.

@structure: wow, this is the first time in YEARS that poser hasn't crushed within an hour ... even with bigger files. Omg .. how can I thank you for this? Thank you so so so much for your help. I am so so so happy, of course I expect it every second to crash ... but it doesn't do it .. haha, how great is that?! @estherau: thank you so much for your help! :)

I'm new to Poser 11 ... I really love how easy it is to drag and drop files for the library and it opens automatically with every launch. Since this is a trial version, how can I get the full version serial key? Can I buy it here on renderosity? or do I have to purchase the whole poser 11 software and download it again and install it again ... sorry, if this seems a stupid question. I just want to do it right this time. with no crashing or errors within the software.

Again, thank you guys soooo much and structure, especially.

If you only want the new version because you lost your library, getting the library reattached is a simple fix. however poser 11 now comes with tons of free content and "people". And its not crashy as you noticed.

@noonaa, it's my understanding that if you've downloaded Poser 11.2, once you receive a purchased serial number, all you'll need to do is enter it in the Activation/Registration screen to be fully licenced. You won't need to download anything else to replace the latest version, unless it's a later release with additional bug fixes. It's fully featured once you have a licence key.
