Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Thanks, Hborre and Rhia. I found the whole control prop description kind of confusing. I hope that Bondware will rewrite the manual from scratch when they get their next version going. Anyway- it seems that this stuff has to be connected to bones. Ghost bones are mentioned. But I don't see anything about how to make bones. For instance, I want to be able to squeeze the corner of La Femme's mouth inward. There's no control chip for that. I can see how to make the polys into a chip- but what do I connect it to?
Yep, they have to be connected to a bone in the figures rig. You can add new bones in the setup room, but that may (most likely) screw up some of the morphs, also you'd need to set up joint zones/weight maps that these new bones affect. etc, etc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

Control Chips or Handles can be added to any bone. The part that's not on page 289 is making the actual bones to control. That's the hard part. You can add bones to an existing figure in the Setup room. That's the deep end of the pool LOL.
Of course, it couldn't be easy....

I can see how that would be a problem... aargh.
Rhia- thanks for this chart! There are a couple of these that I could not see on the figure. But, still, there are some others that I would like to add- between 2 and 3, between 5 and 6,, below 7, below 8, to either side of the bridge of the nose (although those last might need some serious bulge mapping to work right).
And you injected all the face morphs as well, I imagine? The La Femme Use Guide that came with the figure is very detailed and should tell you what it all comes with--it is surprisingly versatile even without purchased addons. Forgive me if you already done that, just covering all the bases as my old IT pro friend told me.
Don't forget too the face controls respond to all transforms, rotation, translation and scale. Try twisting them, and translates (Remember the translate is a bit weird, hold down the [esc] key while dragging)
If you do need to add bones it can be done without breaking the morphs but it will impact the scale behavior of the other chips ... Poser's scales are insanely complex and interact in ways you wouldn't expect. If you do add bones to the face just don't create new groups in the figure. That's what can break the morphs. A bone doesn't need to have a group. It does need Affected actors. In the Joint editor you'll need to make sure the head is it's affected actor. It should set that automatically. If you zero the scale weights maps for the new bone it will minimize it's impact on neighboring bones. But of course, it won't be able to scale.

Thank you- that's very helpful. I think for the time being I'm going to wait on this, it seems to involve a couple more layers of things than I had hoped, but this is very good information from when I get to it.

Yes, I injected all the morphs. As for the LaFemme user guide, I don't recall getting one and I went back and searched my download folder and nothing turns up. I've just been winging it with her. Did it automatically load somewhere in the library that I'm not thinking of? Or perhaps I didn't get it because I got LaFemme 'free' when I bought Poser. It does seem like it would be a nice thing to have.

This is the easiest way:
LOL. Dude, did you render that just for this thread?

The not-Pro version of LaFemme included with Poser doesn't have all the extra goodies. Manuals, morphs. Think of LaFemme Pro kind of like a plus pack for her.
I have the pro version, have the morphs, but not the manual. Dunno why, but I can't find any trace of it ever having downloaded.

Obviously the Documentation folder which held the "la Femme users guide.pdf" got skipped when they rebranded her to "Pro" ... it was in the first zip file besides the Runtime folder. I don't know who you could try to contact to get that rectified ... sorry.

LaFemme could be a lot more expressive with a few more control chips on her face. Is there a way to add some where you want them?
