Subject: STOREWIDE sale - clearance sale items at clearance prices

Mik239 ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2019 at 11:30 AM ยท edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 2:44 AM

Might be a bit annoying to come up with this again, and may sound a little bit harsh - but aren't you willing to fix/ change this ?

There were many times/ sales I would have bought older xtrart's items, when the clearance items would have been discounted at sale discounts.

Hello.

This is not broken it is intentionally this way. this is because prime members automatically get an additional discount on those items and that is programmed into checkout to give prime members the additional discount on clearance items. This is a perk of the prime membership so that those items are always more deeply discounted for those members.

Ok, if I get you right, you announce a 70% store wide sale (prime membership independent), which in case of xtrart's store means (for me as a non prime member): Like 1/3 of her store is (for me) discounted at 70% (the newer items) and like 2/3 is (for me) discounted at 35% (the older items). And it is intented to work this way ?

Yes, as that vendor requested her older items be put in clearance. ๐Ÿ˜„

Ok, bold marketing move, imo it should work like 70% off for everybody + plus the percentage off for prime members on clearance items you've decided to give them.

And ask yourself, a store in your city announces a 70% storewide sale, you drive to the store and see that only like 1/3 of their items are at 70% and the others at 35% off. And they tell you, "yes the other items get additional discount only for our VIP customer club members", maybe we should have told you in the announcement ?"

But I'll stop arguing here, I'll simply not buy older items during these "storewide" sales and of course no offense to you. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Btw. : The first time I've asked , they (not you) told me like that it simply wasn't possible to also reduce the "clearance" tagged items atm., but that it will be changed (if I remember it right).

jennblake ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2019 at 2:20 PM

It will not be changed in the near future. It is not a planned change. ๐Ÿ˜„

Mik239 ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2019 at 2:35 PM

That's ok, and I've not planned to buy clearance items during these "storewide" sales until it changes. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

But maybe you should consider to call these sales 70/35% storewide sales, like you do with these 45% for everyone, 55% for prime members sales.

And again, no offense ๐Ÿ˜„

Just wanted to assure you, @Mik239 that you're not the only one thinking this kind of marketing doesn't help to generate sales, but quite the opposite,

And if I remember right, the extra % for prime members on clearance items doesn't get them to 70% of... might be wrong though, didn't refresh my prime membership due to it often giving no real advantage because of the many sale restrictions one faces here... ^^

@T0mcat00

thanks alot, much appreciated, was thinking I'm the only one who thinks this is weird.

And the fact that new items are cheaper than older ones makes it even weirder.

But who am I to tell them how to do their sales ?^^

It really makes no sense and, as mentioned, it's actually a detriment to sales for a lot of us... and I say this as a Prime Member who DOES get that extra discount. The thing is, the policy might make sense IF the maximum discount that items go on sale equaled the value of the Prime clearance discount, but in these days wherein 60-70% off sales are not uncommon, the math simply doesn't work out in the customers' favor. The end result is that I rarely buy anything that's marked clearance except on those rare occasions when the entire clearance category is on sale... which is why that while I own ALL of Xtrart's current product, I still haven't bought a large number of that artist's clearance items.
