Very cool animation Lux. I especially like how you set up the inner most circles going in the opposite direction of all the others. Makes for an interesting animation for sure.

Thanks, Miss B and Lobo. @ Miss B, the alternate rotation came about while trying to figure out a way to compensate for how the Array modifier handles offsets. When the offset is controlled by an empty or object, the original mesh is not translated by that offset object. Only the copies of the array can be rotated or translated, based on the center point of the offset object. Of course, this is very useful for creating spirals or helix shapes, but this forces you to create motion using either a secondary empty or by rotating the original mesh itself. So while doing the latter, I decided to use a reverse motion path just to see what effect that would have. I felt like it provided a strange, yet interesting effect. Especially without motion blur it gives it a kinetic appearance. Thanks for noticing that.

It's an interesting effect to say the least, as I think all of them rotating in the same direction would've been boring. This way my eyes were drawn to the center, which is where they should've been to view it properly.

Experimenting with mandala animation using Blender 2.8. This animation was done using a simple sphere with some array modifiers and displacement. Rendered with the Eevee render engine at 1920x1080, 60fps. Each frame rendered at less than 1 second per frame on my RTX 2070. You could test the render times of this scene on your own hardware. I'm giving away this animation as a .blend scene file to all my Youtube subscribers. Just check out the latest Community Post announcement on my Luxxeon3d tutorial channel for a link to the scene file.
