Subject: Posers Construct Not Showing Textures

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2019 at 9:24 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 7:47 PM

I'm sure this is an easy fix and I'm just missing something simple, but after (finally) installing the P11.2 update, I just cannot find the setting to change the construct dome to show the textures in preview mode. When I set everything up, I get this:

Blank.jpg

What I want it to look like is this:

Texture.jpg

The second one is actually from another project file and it shows the texture normally, but when I set up a new scene, it goes completely blank. I tried applying the texture to ensure it was there and I have changed all the display properties to Texture Shaded, but I think there was something else and I'm forgetting something.

Is your ground prop set to visible?

you might check to see if somehow you have two constructs loaded. One might be obscuring the other.

Where are you getting the textures from and how do you apply them? Poser has some included in the Materials Library. I just dragged those over to the main screen and they showed right up.

Three other possibilities that occur to me offhand:

Is the display mode texture shaded? (Click the icon which looks like a billiard ball).

Check the render settings for the preview renderer. Enable hardware shading is important. Nerd3D's annotation:

Third possibility is that the material setup is complex, beyond what the preview renderer can interpret.

Ah ha! Thanks, seachnasaigh, it's something in the Render Settings Preview tab. I now have textures showing on the construct like normal instead of the washed out white void that it was before. I'll have to play around with it and see what it actually is that's doing it :D

-edit-

It was the 'Enable hardware shading' option in the Preview tab that did it. It's odd because one would think that wouldn't affect textures, but oh well, as long as it's working properly, that's all I care about.

Oh, no, it's not surprising. Enable hardware shading makes major improvements in the preview renderer. Tiling does not show in preview unless you have hardware shading enabled, for example. Set offscreen handling to PBuffer if you have a decent graphics card. Definitely select OpenGL (not SreeD) if you have a capable GPU.
