In ver 2.80 there are menus at the top of the 3d viewport that when I load a scene made in 2.79 drop to the bottom.

Is there any way to stop that?

I can remember opening very old .blend files from the 2.4x versions in 2.5x when I finally got the newer version, and it did the same thing.

The only thing I think you can do, and I'm not sure where it is in version 2.8, but when I try to open a .blend file, near the bottom of the left Tool panel, there's an option to Load UI, and it's checked by default, so IIRC, you can uncheck it before loading up the file in 2.8, and then it will display as you want in 2.8's UI.

In 2.8 the Load UI check box is located at the top right corner of your "Open File" screen under the setting or cog shaped button. Image 1.jpg

Thanks. That works. Consistency makes it so much easier.

Thanks for confirming it's still available in 2.8x, and where it is. I'm going to have to make a note for when I can start playing with it. 🙂

Thanks learned something myself it never occurred to me to look that up I usually just append a new scene with the objects from an old scene which is actually time consuming if it is a large scene thanks Miss B and keppel for this info 👏

Hmmmm, now I'm wondering if I do that and save it as my Startup scene, whether it would remember to not have that checked. Hmmmm . . .

I was wondering the same thing.

Well, I just tried, and it doesn't work. I'm now going to try and see if there's a User Preference that can set that to be unchecked all the time.

YES!!! I just found it!!! Open the User Preferences, and click on the File tab. It's in the list on the right, and it works. I unchecked it, saved my preferences, resaved my Startup.blend file, and when I opened a "New" file, IT'S UNCHECKED!!! 😁

Just remember, the User Preferences might look different in 2.8x, but it should still have the same list of options.

@MissB Yes, it's the same in the 2.8x preferences as well. Just uncheck the option and you won't have to worry about it going forward. Keep in mind that some .blend files are intentionally shared with a custom UI in place so that instructions or warnings about how the file was made can be displayed upfront, but as long as that isn't a concern, it's better to keep that option turned off.

@MissB Yes, it's the same in the 2.8x preferences as well.

Thanks for confirming that Lux. I wish I had known about that option years ago, if it existed back in Blender 2.5x, because every time I opened one of my old 2.4x .blend files, I had to close and reopen it, unchecking that option. This way it's done automatically, which is always easier. 🙂
